So, what's it cost to run an outfit like this?
> Admin and Moderator Salaries & Benefits?
> Back-office support staff?
> Software costs?
> Server costs?
> Hosting and/or Bandwidth?
> Royalties?
> Advertising, Marketing and Promotions costs?
Y'all might want to start charging for membership or maybe adding some banner adds.

Travel, order in lunches, syrup and CO2, dump drunk. You factor it all together and it gets expensive.
phpBB is free, so no costs there.
Put up some google ads and we'll click on it :)

You gotta be careful with that... a previous forum I was on got banned from adsense (the google ads thing) because people clicked too often...

Don't cheat yourself on the hooker / escort budget.
Double up on the midgets also.

Actually, I'd be interested to know what it costs to run this place. Pancho's not going to go all Hornfans on us and keep that a secret is he?

I've been thinking about posting about this and this is as good a place as any.
I already have a server up and running so adding this was no problem. I would normally charge $200 a year for a site like this.
I registered the domain which was $8 and my only out of pocket expense.
phpBB and the chat software were free. I've taken about 5 hours total setting up the site, normally I'd charge about $75 an hour for that.
I pay for .5 MB/sec in my rack. Last month I averaged .15 MB/sec. Since this site went up I am now averaging .33 MB/sec. If I go over .5 MB/sec it's going to cost me $150 a month.
If we get busier we will need to goto vBulliten software which costs $160.
So for now I'm happy to host for free. If the bandwidth goes up I'll need to do something. If I put google adds on here we will need to shutdown 3:16 for a while. I will bring it back after we are approved.

Well, if you guys ever decide that the costs are getting out of control, let's do a fundraiser. Seriously.

No doubt. I'm sure we'll all be happy to help keep this place open, I sure will.

We could set up 3:16 as a password protected forum which requires a password to get in, that way you have exact control over who gets in. I don't know if phpbb has this feature but I know others do.

php-Nuke and phpBB allow for password protected rooms. I post on a couple of cigar boards that do that for their NSFW rooms.

Also, I think Adsense frowns over adult content (Means mac cant go posting xxx pics in threads ;) )
These forums are more cpu intensive than bandwidth intensive, but I think we're good on the cpu side.
