I want to take my wife away for the weekend. Just relax and have some time away from the kids. Any good ideas on a spot somewhere within say....3 hours of Waco?

Well first off, just getting out of Waco is a step in the right direction. I'm not sure what you guys are into but the Hill Country has some nice B&Bs; you guys could go shopping in Fredricksburg or some place similar, stay out there for a couple nights. I wonder if you could rent a lake house on Lake Buchanan for the weekend as the weather this weekend could be nice.

Fredricksburg would be my first choice. You could hit up Enchanted Rock if it isn't too cold. There is a nice wildflower center off of the highway. You could go to Johnson City and see the LBJ home.

I love East Texas so I would say you could also do a road trip through East Texas. Wife and I went started in Nacadogches then on to Tyler, spent the night in Jefferson. Next day went to Marshall and finished in Texarkana. Granted it was spring so the wildflowers were in full bloom.

Well East Texas is not an option (I should have specified). We both grew up in Lufkin so taking a trip to Packaroaches probably wouldn't go over well.
And we are taking the kids to a lake house on Lake Buchanan for spring break (reserved it yesterday).

I wanted to go to Salado but my wife thinks I'll just hang out at the hotel bar and get hammered all weekend. Which is what I did last time. Sounds good to me but apparently that's not the point of the Valentine's getaway.

Drive to Dallas and stay at the Ritz Carlton. Awesome neighborhood in Uptown and reasonable prices. Nothing says "romance" more to a woman than luxary.

I don't want to oversimplify this, but...Austin?

go to Wimberely, a couple of B&B options there, like the Blair house, which is pretty nice.

from there you can drive in the hill country to places or go into the big city of Austin if you so desire.
