Maybe frustrating is a better word than sucks, but holy crap. I'll take it. Should be up 2-0. I'll take a split with Cliff starting game 3. Way to go Rangers!!

fuck yes. great answer to a bad first game. when you scoped out the series, it was key to get 1 of 2 at home. Sucks that we could have gotten 2, but I'll take it right now.

Great game. Strip some of the force field away. They can go down.

if you turn the volume off of those cocksuckers on tbs, that game wasnt all that close. just felt that way with all the salad tossing going on in the booth.

didnt wear the antlers shirt today but got pregame sex from the wife....guess ill stick with that routine the rest of the series.

I was 8 rows back to the left of the catcher a bit in sec 123 i think, and so i got to see the ball really well off the bat. I tell you what, watching Nellie hit is reminsicent of watching someone stripe a 400 yard drive down the fairway. He gets solid contact and the ball, from that perspective, even has a draw or fade. It's really bad ass. Oh, and the steroids chant was bad ass, didnt know if yall could pick that up from television.

yeah you could definitely hear every chant on tv. i wished o'day would have pitched. loved hearing the o'day chant in the TB series, would've been awesome hearing it in full force for about an inning. oh, and who started the "TEXAS", "RANGERS" chant?

Got damn we'd have Lee going for a 3-0 lead if our pen didn't blow game 1. If Lee can be Lee, and CJ + Cobra can keep this up we can win this fucking thing.

Can CJ go game 4 or do we have to go with Tommy Little Game?

Yah, thats great. The steroids chant was birthed from the Cuervo club seats on down. Cano (who is really really good and the only Yankee i respect) was on deck and could hear it the best. You could see he was visibly uncomfortable for A-rod, so that was nice. Well, you could see if you were 8 rows up like I was. ;-)

The Texas! Rangers! caught me off guard. I instinctively yelled "Fight!". Apparently its something the club has prodded us to do because the jumbo tron flashed instructions for upper deck to yell Texas and lower to yell Rangers.

wow, what a mother fucking great sports saturday today turned out to be.

that game had me nervous the whole time. let me rephrase that, yesterday's game had me nervous the whole time today. but we held on, got some key outs and won the game. i was at my second job where i do not have access to the innernets, so i was not able to post. few notes that i remember from the game:

that ogando strike out of cano was huge. cano has been making great contact and could have been much more of a difference maker in this game, but ogando came up and Ked his ass.

yeah oliver walked a dude, but he still did alright. i haven't lost all faith in DO.

i'm glad feliz got some more post season work when the game wasn't extremely close. the more experience he can get the better it is for all of us.

i don't remember any base running blunders, so that's good.

moreland getting that rbi to give us our seventh run was huge. molina looked horrible in that at bat and i figured that we'd just leave another runner on third, but moreland came through and that has to boost his confidence a little.

spystud noted it a few times, but vlad left a ton of guys on base. if he was hitting well in this series, we'd have scored a shit ton more runs. i understand that you don't want to change up what you're doing and what got you here at this point, but i wouldn't mind seeing cruz and kinsler move up and vlad bat 6th.

we got the split that everyone hoped for and expected. the events didn't transpire the same way we had wanted, but we still got the split, so let's be happy about that. we have outscored them 13 - 3 except for one inning. cliff is going on monday. the longhorns won. it's a good day.

"My ballclub is a totally different ballclub. We can win ballgames in may ways. I think the world is beginning to see the Texas Rangers. You know, we was locked in. We won the West. We didn't win as many games as everybody else, but I have a bunch of guys that come and play the game of baseball, and whatever comes, they take. They make mistakes, but they get over it, and you have to have that type of attitude to perform in this game, because this is a very humbling game. And we just play baseball."

anyone else trying to get potential world series tix this morning? i'm in this damned virtual waiting room thing again that was a nightmare for ALDS tickets.

working the phone as well but it's busy 9 of 10 times, and every time it seems to get through, it rings once and then says 'call ended', so i don't even know if they have people on the phones this morning.

virtual waiting room sucks--i spent nearly an hour in it for ALDS tickets and finally blew it off when i did get through on the phone. i'm not even sure if they have inventory to sell today.

I was out there yesterday getting drunk as shit with my buddy as we watched the Rangers trounce the Yankees. Right before Murphy's first AB when he hit a HR, my buddy said to me, "Murphy's gonna hit a HR here." Then, before the third pitch (I think) of the AB, he turns to me and says, "Go ahead and stand up and start celebrating" as the pitch left Hughes' hand. Damned if Murph didn't put the pitch into the first row of the HR porch. Holy fuck. Best HR call I've ever seen. The next inning, Michael Young and his struggling ass is up with guys all over the bases. I ask what's going to happen. My buddy says, "I think Young's gonna get a hit here" just as Young hits a ball down the RF line for an RBI double. He later called a groundout to third by Vlad (but to be honest, we all could predict that). At that point, we got too drunk to continue the game but it was almost like he was seeing the game for a second time. Crazy.

Got great seats for Game 6 if we get that far.

Whoa, short memory and/or didn't watch much of the regular season...

Neither...just gets more impressive as each game gets bigger. Alot of questions about how guys who had never been in games like this would respond, and for a 22 year old to continue answering the call like that as the pressure gets cranked up (setting the tone for the rest of the lineup while he's at it) is worth the all caps post.

I also got shut out on the WS sale this morning. Spent about an hour in the "waiting room" and never got through. I did get 4 for Game 3 thru the presale a couple days ago, though.

Was out at the Ballpark on Saturday. Beautiful day, cold beers, resounding Rangers playoff victory (over the Yankees nonetheless), and listening to the 'Horns deliver a final "fuck you" to Nebraska on my handheld radio. Truly one of the best sports days of my life.

I felt so bummed out after that abortion on Friday night, but it's like 180 degrees now. Five game series starts now, and we've got Cliff Lee pitching twice. Let's do this!

Just finished catching up. It feels good to read it all, good and bad, and know that we are all in this together.

I was driving through Oklahoma Friday night on the way to Nebraska. The moment I crossed into Kansas, we started to implode. I don't know how I stayed on the road. I was physically ill for hours, well, until the kickoff and quick start of the Texas game on Saturday.

I got periodic updates during the Texas game, but I was afraid to hear anymore once I saw we got another big, early lead.

I haven't seen a single second of video from this series yet, I am serious. Not a highlight or anything. It is burning me up in side, but I had a long-standing date with the cornfolk and I was backing out, not for the world.

Saturday was awesome, I am so glad we had an early game to come back and jump on them and erase that crap so fast. Just what we needed.

Same boat, sort of. I've been in SF for two days for a wedding, and I am about to step on a flight to Taipei for long-planned vacation in about an hour. I'm watching on a delay. Finished game 2 about an hour ago (thanks to my Hava). When you're planning vacations, you naturally don't factor in that your favorite professional sports team may make the postseason, may win it's first series ever, may win its first home game ever, and be 3 games away from the It Which Shall Not Be Named.

Nice to see Face making good contact. He still seems to be taking the Vlad approach, but he's making better contact.

Loved seeing the double steal yesterday and then Posada have to pumpfake later in the game. And fuck the announcers for calling it a "cheap run".

And Jesus Christ, can the MLB do anything to force Yankees to fucking pick up their speed of play? Slowest team in baseball.

The Rangers will look to their ace pitcher, Cliff Lee. For his two American League Division starts, he was 2-0 with an earned run average of 1.13. In seven starts in the postseason, the 32-year-old left-handed ace is now 6-0 with an earned run average of 1.44. Last year, he was able to pound the Yankees twice during the World Series when he was with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was 2-0 with an earned run average of 3.09 against them in the regular season and overall was 12-9 with an earned run average of 3.18.

random article from onlinesportsbookpro.com.

pretty good stats though. hope it stays on course.

I was on suicide watch on Friday night. That said, there weren't that many douchebag Yankee fans out there on Friday night. I know it's a moral victory, but we have outplayed the Yankees in both games with the exception of one inning. Unfortunately, the Yankees only need one inning to go no lube on you. If we can take game 3, no doubt game 4 will be an all-out brawl as we could go up 3-1 facing AJ Burnett. If anything, Hunter will throw strikes so he will be great as long as he doesn't sit in the middle of the plate. I have absolutely no problems with the way our rotation stacks up in New York and won't be surprised if we take 2 games.

Unfortunately, as I said before the series started, it will all come down to whether or not our bullpen understands that these guys value every single one of the 27 outs and they become more valuable as the game progresses. They are fine playing behind and they will not lay down and swing at shit out of the zone. They will not beat themselves, you have to take it to them and be mentally preprared that every AB could be a 10-pitch fight.

i think Mrs. Cliff Lee wouldn't mind seeing her husband stay in a Rangers uniform.

Each season, Kristen, Jaxon and his sister Maci, 7, spend the summer months with Cliff and return to Benton when school starts. Now, rather suddenly and unexpectedly, Cliff is a mere one-hour flight or 4 ½-hour drive away.

"It's been a huge thing, totally, because we've never had it," Kristen says. "We've never played close to home. It's definitely nice."

A month into Cliff's Rangers tenure, Kristen and the kids returned to Benton. But this time, when his team played a Sunday afternoon home game, Cliff had the convenience and team's blessing to fly to Arkansas and stay until Tuesday morning.

"He'd never been home [in Arkansas] one single time, ever, during the season," Kristen says. "It's saved me and the kids a lot of trips."

******

"It's amazing how things work," she said. "You're expected to win in New York. And in Texas, I feel like he's getting the glory that he deserves. He doesn't look for it, but I feel like he deserves a little bit of glory.

this i was thinking about too.

if they pitch c.c. in game 4, then they would have to pitch a.j. in game 5 because i sincerely doubt hughes would be ready to pitch game 5. that would mean:
game 4: c.c. vs. hunter
game 5: a.j. vs. c.j.
game 6: hughes vs. lewis
game 7: pettite vs. lee

if the yanks keep to their original schedule, we're looking at:
game 4: a.j. vs. hunter
game 5: c.c. vs c.j.
game 6: hughes vs. lewis
game 7: pettite vs. lee.

to be honest, i don't have a problem with either of those sets of pitching matchups. this game 3 is extremely crucial because the pitching matchups for the next 2 games hinge on it. and we have clee getting the start. i'm still sticking with my prediction of the rangers winning in 6.

I think if Cliff can do something special here, hopefully he stays. His type only comes around very seldom. He is money so far in the playoffs. He's already beaten the Yankees before and faced them twice so tonight is nothing new. Game 5 in Tampa was nothing for him. Great to have a guy like that on a team where no one except Molina and Vlad have any experience here. Playing in NY in the playoffs can be intimidating to a lot of players. I'm comfortable with Lee and Molina as a combo tonight. Both have this experience.

I LOVED seeing this quote:

You're expected to win in New York. And in Texas, I feel like he's getting the glory that he deserves. He doesn't look for it, but I feel like he deserves a little bit of glory.

If you win the WS with the Yankees, it's nice and all, but you're just a cog in the machine that is the $250,000,000 Yankees payroll. If you win the WS in Texas, you are the man that has taken the team to uncharted territory.

Good lord this game is sooooooooooo huge. If we go up 2-1 facing either Sabathia/AJ Burnett or AJ Burnett/Sabathia I have a good feeling about taking one of those two games leaving NY with a 3-2 lead and a guarantee Clifford would take the bump if necessary. Come on bullpen, don't fuck this up.

Also, if I see Jorge Cantu have one more AB I'm going to be fucking pissed. Moreland is the shit. He doesn't play with fear. He approaches ABs just like the Yankees do. Suck it Cantu and be happy you are a long for the ride. Also, I'm not opposed to Murphy over Frenchy vs Pettitte but that's a personal preference that I doubt we will see.

Moreland it is...

The Rangers' playoff platoon at first base is apparently a thing of the past.

Rookie Mitch Moreland will start Game 3 despite left-hander Andy Pettitte pitching for the Yankees. Manager Ron Washington opted for the left-handed-hitting Moreland over struggling righty Jorge Cantu, who is hitless in seven postseason at-bats.

Moreland, who has a five-game postseason hitting streak, was 3-for-4 with a run and RBI in Game 2. He has never faced Pettitte. He hit .200 (4-for-20) against major league lefties this season.

"He's swinging the bat, having good at-bats," Washington said of Moreland. "I just want to keep it going."

Washington said the toughest part of the decision was determining whether Moreland was prepared for the test of facing "crafty veteran" Pettitte, who holds the major league record with 19 postseason wins. But it's not like Cantu has been hitting lefties (or anybody else). He hit .234 against southpaws this season with only two homers in 141 at-bats.

Rangers lineup vs. LHP Andy Pettitte:

Elvis Andrus, ss
Michael Young, 3b
Josh Hamilton, cf
Vladimir Guerrero, dh
Nelson Cruz, lf
Ian Kinsler, 2b
Jeff Francoeur, rf
Bengie Molina, c
Mitch Moreland, 1b

Love the Moreland addition to the lineup. I also prefer to be able to bring Murph in off of the bench to pinch hit over Frenchy. Frenchy has hit lefties since coming here:

"Francoeur was 8-for-20 with no strikeouts against left-handed pitchers in the regular season after being traded by the Mets to the Rangers. He opened the scoring in Game 1 of the LDS with an RBI hit against lefty David Price."

I was listening to the radio yesterday and the host was giving some Yankees vs. Rangers payroll facts. I'm sure I'll get some of these wrong, but off the top of my head:

--this series is the biggest payroll difference between two teams in the playoffs ever
--the difference between the Yankees payroll and the Rangers is equal to the entire Chicago Cubs payroll
--the difference between the highest paid Yankee's salary (A-Rod) and the highest paid Ranger's (Face) is Mark Teixiera's salary
--the Rangers 4 playoff starters (Lee, Wilson, Lewis, Hunter) combined make less than Mariano Rivera
--A-Rod + Jeter make more than the entire Rangers roster

Any way Ron lets Lee pitch the 8th if he gets Thames quickly?

Come on Cliff. Keep the pitch count below 110 here. Quick work with Thames and I think he'll have 8 innings in him.

Cliff at 109. In most situations I would let the bullpen take it from there, but this is Cliff Fucking Lee and game 3 of the playoffs, so let him pitch
