tom hicks used to own this team.
we filed for bankruptcy.
we got bailed out by the mlb financially.
mark cuban almost bought this team.
we had a freaking auction for ownership.
rosh does coke.
we had a pile of injuries (every team has injuries but only a few teams had as many).

despite all this, this season always had the air that something great was going to happen.

sometime somewhere, somebody once said, "it ain't over till it's over." LET'S GO RANGERS!

IDK if it's been said yet, but Arlington is no where near Dallas.

Try getting your facts right. If they're going to be called a major city that they don't play in then Fort Worth would be used since it actually borders Arlington.

I mean what is your definition of nowhere near? All that separates the 2 is little ol Grand Prairie. I mean from Dallas off 30 or 20, you can get to Arlington in like 15min or so. Shorter than the time it takes to get from Far North Dallas to South Dallas for sure.

1. spystud either needs to not call molina a fat fuck anymore for the rest of the year or continue to call him fat fuck because it's good luck.
2. BSE saved us from a potential disaster in the 5th inning. i didn't think he was going to get there at first and i think he surprised granderson (i think that's who was running to 3rd).
3. great fucking bunt mitch moreland. the other ABs weren't great but getting some runs on the board was critical (a certain SS followed up the bunt by driving in a run).
4. great hustle by nellie cruz on the kinsler fly to CF that set up the IBB to Murphy and then boomstick by Molina.
5. Dutch. Oven. Awesome.

Is there anyone on the planet as good as Josh Hamilton right now? That last HR was a fucking missle off the one and only Yankee lefty in their pen. Nellie is starting to heat up and we are playing 9 innings/27 outs. We have done to the Yankees what the Yankees have done to the rest of baseball.

I bet there weren't more than 5,000 fans left in the 9th. Thanks Yankee fans for showing us what you really are which is a bunch of front running pussies. That was an embarassment to their franchise to see those guys have to play that game out while the greatest baseball fans on the planet deserted them the previous inning. Ha ha ha. Fuck you.

Here they go. After beating the Yankees 10-3 in Game 4 on Tuesday night, the Rangers are one victory from their first World Series. And we should all root for them getting that last necessary win. Baseball needs the Rangers in the World Series, not the Yankees.

We don't need another World Series with a team so rich and smug that the New York mayor announced two weeks ago that he already was planning its world championship parade route.

We don't need another World Series with a team that has spent more time on Fox than Homer Simpson, Kiefer Sutherland and the cast of "Glee" combined.

We don't need a team whose fans are so spoiled that 40 percent of them had already left the stadium when the Yankees loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning.

I agree with this. I don't know if there was enough there to overturn the call.

Buuut....

The guy on the far end did not hit his glove until after it cleared the wall into the stands but that other douchebag stuck his glove over the wall into the field of play right by Nellie's. That has to be interference though I doubt those umps reverse the HR. Oh well, fuck them and those idiot fans.

Love this team. I've been a fan since the move from DC. Spent many hot summer nights in the left field bleachers of old Arlington Stadium, where my dad taught me how to keep score. Back then you could bring in your own food and drinks, and we did. They had some old folksy theme song that would blare over the PA. I can only remember bits in pieces of it now, and can't even find any references to it on Google. Jeff Burroughs was my first favorite player, then Lenny Randle. I listened to countless games on WBAP, missed a lot of sleep staying up when they were on the road at the A's or Angels. I remember the years when the White Sox, yes the White Sox, were our biggest rival. Hated those fuckers, and still do to this day. So many good memories, even when they sucked.

This series isn't over yet, in spite of what the media is suggesting. The ALDS and game 1 of the ALCS shows us that we are likely in store for more adventure before this is over. No matter what happens, this is my favorite team of all time. There is simply not an unlikeable person on this team. They all genuinely love each other, and it shows in how they play together.

I'm not going to go back and look at the names that were listed, but here are a few of my favorites over the years that may or may not have been mentioned.

Kenny Rogers

the lowly Texas Rangers, a team that hadn’t won a playoff series before this year, and it sparks a range of emotions, from panic to amazement, grave-dancing to pure giddiness. The Rangers had been in bankruptcy for most of the 2010 season. Major League Baseball loaned them significant amounts of money to cover payroll. At one point, Mark Cuban almost became their owner in a heated and contentious sale of the team. It was revealed in spring training that their manager tested positive for cocaine in 2009.

****

This Yankees-Rangers series has the biggest payroll discrepancy in baseball’s postseason history, with A.J. Burnett out-earning all of Texas’s ALCS rotation by himself.

My memory is not that good. I just remember hating Ritchie Zisk their fucktard fans singing that damn Goodbye song.

That's hilarious, I remember exactly when you're talking about, this was in the period around 1976-1979. I will stick up for Richie Zisk because he became a Ranger prior to the '78 season, and won my first ever major league game with a walkoff HR against Goose Gossage on Opening Day. You're right, those fuckers used to pound us wearing those ugly ass uniforms and all 10K of those drunken Polish factory workers would be singing that fucking shitty song. Off the top of my head, Chet Lemon, Bill Naharodney, Ralph Garr, Jorge Orta, and Britt Burns were some of the fucksticks on that team. Harold Baines might have been a rookie at the tail end of that period, can't remember. Those fuckers used to own us...

I remember listening to a game on the radio at that time, and the Rangers had a lead in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but the winning run at the plate for the Sox (maybe Chet Lemon, maybe Jim Kern pitching?). Old Comiskey had an overhang down the lines kind of like old Tiger Stadium, where a ball hit high enough could reach the second deck even though the outfielder was in position to catch it on the field. Mark Holtz's call was something like "There's a high fly, deep but playable, Beniquez (?) is there, and....OH NO, IT'S IN THE UPPER DECK, THE WHITE SOX WIN!!!"

As whoever the hell it was rounded the bases, Holtz explained about the overhang and how it would give people cheap-ass home runs. They talked a little more, and then went to commercial break; right before it cut away, obviously thinking they were off the air, one of the two announcers muttered "God, I hate this damn place"...

Going to give Ron the benefit of the doubt that he knew it wouldn't be over-turned. Was it interference? Yes. But did the interference happen after the ball was clearly in the seats? Yes. Could Nellie have caught it? Maybe, but I doubt it. That's not enough to overturn on replay.

As I understand the rule, since the ball was clearly in the stands, the fan has to obviously interfere and definitely prevent the fielder from making the play for it to be overturned.

I was at the ballpark that night with my best friend until 4AM waiting to get autographs from the players as they came out of the garage. Of course the only thing I had handy for them to sign was one of the Fina Friday cards mentioned in the Scams thread... :)

Favorite moments from that night:

1) Mark McLemore pulls up in his super-tinted black Impala SS and rolls down his window. I cruise over and lean through the window to ask for his autograph. He then tilts his head, pushes down his shades (yes, sunglasses at night) with one finger and says "Watch the ride kid..." I reeled back as he signed the Fina Friday and handed it to me. The window closed and he sped off into the night...

2) The first one out of the garage that night was Pudge who came SCREAMING up the ramp in his red Viper with his wife. Everyone jumped out of the road as he sped past to cheers and lamentations. Twenty minutes later as we were milling around gathering various autographs, the Viper came tearing around the corner and we again scampered to avoid a collision as it disappeared back into the garage.

Seconds later it was my turn to get Will Clark's mark and as I leaned forward I asked "What the hell is Pudge doing?!" He shrugged and with a smirk replied "The drunk ass took off to give his wife some lovin' and forgot their damn kids in the clubhouse!" The gate to the garage lifted again and the Viper made another swift exit, but this time with a black Range Rover carrying his wife and kids in tow.

well when your team OPS is .351, you don't get many runners in scoring position and when you do, you don't get them home.

those ranger teams were awful. johnny oates is the best manager of all time to get 92 wins out of those groups, regardless of the quality of the AL west.

Bartending at Humperdink's in 98' & '99 was much fun. Will Clark could put down some beer, that's for sure. We always knew when the homestand was over because Will & friends would close the place down in a very rowdy fashion. Awesome tippers as well.

I mean what is your definition of nowhere near? All that separates the 2 is little ol Grand Prairie. I mean from Dallas off 30 or 20, you can get to Arlington in like 15min or so. Shorter than the time it takes to get from Far North Dallas to South Dallas for sure.

Oh I know, and maybe I should have been clearer by what I meant.

Fort Worth borders Arlington and the Rangers have never even played in Dallas county.

Pet peeve of mine and nothing against people in Dallas of course, but I grow tired of people lumping it all together and calling it Dallas.

This was not the thing to do today. Now we've given them confidence after handing their ass to them for 18+ innings.

Well, barring a miracle this team is going to have to bounce back in game 6 like they did in game 2, and I know they can.

It's early. Plenty of time to come back in this one. Let's put some runs on the board here and then get a 1-2-3 inning from CJ.

Is the Dutch Oven available to pitch today?

No. Nadel just said Dutch isn't available today, and that they don't want to go to Kirkman this early because he hasn't been going as long recently. He could give 3 innings maybe. CJ just needs to grit this one out as long as he can.

Well, shit. I hope we can comeback and rip their hearts out like they did us in Game 1 but I guess it was wishful thinking that we could go into NYC and take all three to punchout the Yanks.
