Yes, while its painful and yes, it would have been nice to have won, I can't help but to be grateful for all the wonderful times the Rangers have provided me this season. The World Series was just cake.

This has been an amazing season. This team has blown me away time and time again. From the Salty walk off to Neftali K'ing Aroid, its all been good times in between. From the claw to the antlers and to our amazing fans. I loved every minute of this season. I loved how CJ went from shitty closer one year to our best pitcher in the first half. I loved beating the shit out of the Angels and our division. I loved seeing Cliff do work for this team and I hope he and his family make a happy home here. I loved watching Face hit a grand slam as Greenberg and Ryan beat out Cuban. I loved watching Boomstick win so many games in extras for us. I loved watching Josh Hamilton have an unbelievable season. I loved watching Elvis grow up before our eyes and turn into an All World shortstop. I loved Face for making that sacrifice a year before. I loved hearing the Natural and seeing Nolan standing up and clapping numerous times. I loved Juan Roshington for getting us here and I love our front office for believing in him. In times where Tech was doing shitty, my Rangers were there. I loved coming home every night and flipping that remote to FSSW and listening to Tag and Josh for the next three hours. I absolutely love love love this team, so fucking much. So proud.

I love our future and this year a has only made my life as a Ranger fan that much more enjoyable. I can't complain.

I look forward to doing it again next year with Cliff at the helm, again.

Heres to you, the 2010 Texas Rangers. The best in our History.

J-Bone

“It’s time.” That was our slogan this year, and although we couldn’t quite get over the last hump, it was one hell of a year. Not only did we win our first ever playoff series and our first ever home playoff game, we dominated the Yankees to win the AL Pennant and earn our first ever World Series berth. It’s our time indeed.

The best thing is, “It’s time” doesn’t refer to just this season. With the team in the great hands of Jon Daniels, Nolan Ryan, and Jon Daniels, it will be our time for years to come. We have a primarily young team with a great amount of potential, and great veteran leadership in Michael Young, Josh Hamilton, and CJ Wilson, and Cliff Lee if we can resign him.

With the new tv deal and the extra money that will arrive when we dump Harden, we will have the extra money we need to keep important free agents and sign on new additions.

Yes we came up just short this year, but it was one hell of a year. It’s been a pleasure cheering, bitching, yelling and experiencing the sheer excitement that has been Rangers Baseball with all of you, and I look forward to next season. We’ll have to see what changes are made to the team this season, but it’s safe to say that the bar will be risen for Texas next season. It’s time.

With 1st base open, why pitch to Renteria? He has proven he can hit the ball when it counts. At that point in the game, 1 or 2 runs probably wins it. Intentionally walking him right there is what you should have did with the base open. I was not comfortable pitching to him there. And especially at 2-0, a scoreless game, how can a veteran pitcher like Cliff serve up a meatball ala Hunter last night? Once it got to 2-0, walk him.

That's what I'm saying! And it's not second guessing because I was saying this at the start. Do not pitch to him with first base open. Why on earth would you with a real lesser hitter behind him due up? Cliff has enough command to not walk in a run there.

And especially when it got to 2-0, why even think about throwing a pitch down the middle to get a strike?

If Cliff can hold them to 3 or less runs, I feel good about our chances.

Let's go Rangers!

Odd. I finally come back to my computer. I reload the thread to see the first unread post and it is this.

Cliff missed back over the plate all night, mainly on fastballs Bengie wanted inside, but most of the time the Giants did nothing with them. Of course, the got two, two-strike hits on pitches like this and followed with a three-run homer.

The fact of the matter is, and I know this has probably been run into the ground already, but for my sanity I need to type it out, that he should of never pitched to Renteria. Not with a guy who looked horrible his first two at-bats, someone who hadn't played the whole world series coming up. Make him beat you, not the hottest hitter on their team.

You can say hindsight is 20-20, but I felt that way at the moment and will still always feel that way.

Would of it have made a difference? Probably not. Our booty holes puckered up so tight this series we probably wouldn't have rattled three wins off in a row--not with us only scoring 12 runs in five games.

Whatever, I am upset.

Just saying that I think Cliff Lee had earned the right to decide what to throw there.

Right and Cliff is also stubbornly prideful about not walking people.

I love that, but in that situation you have to make the decision for him. He got down 2-0, then you tell him, don't force one back over the middle of the plate, this guy is raking. Start fresh against a guy whose booty hole will be so puckered it could turn a piece of charcoal into a diamond.

I agree, I think that's the manager's decision to make. I'm okay with Cliff starting the AB however he wanted, but at 2-0 have Bengie stand up & hold his arm out.

It just sucked to see our offense play so well all season, and then revert into "can only score by hitting homers" mode.

I agree, I think that's the manager's decision to make. I'm okay with Cliff starting the AB however he wanted, but at 2-0 have Bengie stand up & hold his arm out.

That's not Wash. If Wash did that kind of thing, players wouldn't love playing for him so much and the team wouldn't be in the World Series, IMO.

Cliff wasn't trying to throw a belt-high fastball down the middle. He did though, so it's on him.

Right. And that is why Wash is not a great in-game manager.

Vlad loves playing for Wash, because their is no accountability. No does Ian, so does everyone when they do something stupid.

Players love playing for Mack too. And for Wade Phillips.

Are you telling me that is who you want managing in the World Series? I understand the theory behind the players playing harder for a guy they like and all that. But ultimately, guys like Cliff Lee, and most major leaguers, want to play for winners.

And I want my manager to put my team in a better position to win. If Rowand beats us, than he beats us. But I want Wash to look at the situation and make a decision, not just sit on his ass and say, "That's the way baseball go."

But my hatred of Wash is well documented. I told friends all year, and I am talking from being at spring training on, "That even if this team wins the world series, I would still fire Ron Washington."

I am very bitter right now. I apologize for that.

It is easy to love Ron Washington when we are raking and totally dominating the Yankees. But in a closer series, when runs are at more of a premium I would prefer to have a different approach.

And about Cliff, of course he knows its on him, I am not saying Ron grooved the pitch over the plate, but Cliff was starting to hang pitches over, even in 0-2 and 1-2 counts. So I would prefer if he hangs one up, that he hang it up to Rowand and not Ranger kryptonite.

Great year! Sad but not upset. We have to open the purse strings for next year because we have the core. Only the Twins will be able to compete with us for the next three years IMO. (The wild card might be the A's) Yankes are done, Angels will be competitive but have no O. I hate to say it but Vlady is destined for a career away from the Rangers. He really showed his age which the Angels wouldn't commit to. Lock up Murph or free agent money for another DH like Worth from Philly. Good times are ahead for the Rangers. On a side bar, I was too pre-occupied talking with friends after the game; I hope the crowd gave our boy's a standing ovation!

Wash is not a great in-game manager.

I am confident that he is an exceptional out-of-game manager, enough in fact that it outweighs the stupid shit that he does during games.

And I don't even agree that having Cliff Lee pitching to ER on a 2-0 count with the bases loaded is stupid. This is a guy who has been a shitty hitter for three straight years. He went 1-for-16 in the NLCS. He has been on a hot streak, but it's not like he's Barry Bonds, and he was 0-for-2 with a GIDP against Lee so far.

Right. But I am saying that you don't pitch to him because he is their hottest hitter. Had some of the best looking at bats all series. Continual fought off good pitches and waited for a hitters pitch and punished them.

His eye has been great, his bat control, everything.

I will take 0-for-2 Rowand who hasn't even been in the series, over 0-for-2 Renteria who has had the best at-bats of any hitter in the whole series.

Maybe I am stupid for being so insistent of this, but it just seems like common sense to me.

You can't mention Renteria's NLCS stats & leave out his WS ones up to that AB. And Rowand had exactly 10 ABs in the last 30 days!

Bengie wanted to walk Renteria as well... Cliff is proving in his postgame comments that Wash should have taken that decision out of his hands.

We all know Cliff Lee has confidence in his stuff. He also hates to walk hitters, loathes it. He wasn't going to walk him there, unless it was a called intentional walk.

You knew it, I knew it. He was going to attack him. We hope that meant with a better pitch than the one he threw, but that is Cliff, it has been Cliff all year and it will always be Cliff.

I knew it, you knew it, spy knew it, Bengie knew it.

I hope Wash knew it. And I hope knowing that, he would walk him and then watch Cliff start off with a clean count and dominate Rowand.

I know, fuck this thread right?

Our amazing season is done and I think we have a very interesting offseason ahead of us.

So, heres the way I want to see it happen for next year. Feel free to share your predictions.

1. Resign Lee
2. Let Vlad go. He's tired.
3. Find another (younger) DH. Adam Dunn? Billy Butler?
4. Send a package that includes either Hunter, Holland, or Scheppers to the Royals for Zach Grienke.
5. Shore up the bullpen.
6. Shore up the catching situation.

What hurts the most is our energy and "swagger" from the Yankees series disappeared and our ace lost the first and last game of this series. This is what he is paid the big bucks for.

I was thinking this today and it's kind of silly but we just came off a epic series win against NY to get there. We got to Lincecum early and had him rattled big time and were up 2-0. Everything going our way the last weeks. Then a routine grounder than Young can't handle gets the Giants going and the series was downhill ever since and really not even close. That play right there will always stick out to me as an eerie play that put a curse on this whole thing.

i'm still shocked that the rangers, a team who has been known for their bats for the past two decades, just couldn't find enough hits to get it done. hindsight may be 20/20 but i wish we could have sat vlad for the entire last third of the regular season. he came up with some huge hits in the first half of the season, but wow did he ever peter out. he was just tired, it was easy to see. i for one wouldn't hate him coming back next year, but i would hope that it would be a much much much lesser role. i also wouldn't hate to see him leave either.

a few things that i was thinking about since i couldn't sleep last night:

what do we do at catcher? treanor and bengie are both free agents. max and TT haven't exactly shown they can be relied on. do we resign one of the FAs or do we start over?
can we do anything with julio borbon? it doesn't seem like he has much of a role on this team anymore.
is getting zach grienke really a possibility? or was that just a teaser that was thrown out there?
we have something like $7m open up now that we are no longer paying catalanotto, millwood and padilla. but cruz, hamilton and wilson will all most likely need a raise. how much room do we have work with?

I hate to go on a hate spill, but I simply can't get it out of my head.

I understand the player's love Ron Washington, and so does the management, and that's great. But is it just me, or was he the worst manager in the playoffs? It's so frustrating coming from a background of baseball growing up, watching these overly ignorant decisions. What decisions am I talking about you ask?

Well, first let's look at Vlad. He's been a historically great hitter, historically being a key word. However, we all know he's a terrible outfielder in every regard. He's slow, his jumps on the balls, his judgment on a ball of the bat, and his first step all sucks. I thought this was obvious to everyone, but apparently I was wrong. I think it's an irrefutable fact that Nellie @ 7, Francouer @ 9, or Murphy @ 7, Nellie @ 9 are necessary. I can understand Vlad being a DH, due to his historical hitting. But, I think a manager needs to evaluate his players. Having a bad World Series average is one thing. You are going to face arguably the top pitchers in baseball for the season. But taking the cuts that Vlad did is another issue all together. He looked fucking horrible. He watched third pitch called strikes, which is rare for Vlad. He half swung at third pitch strikes, failing to commit. Lincecum and Bumgardner made him look absolutely FOOLISH with off speed. Yet, I am not mad at Vlad. Players have off games, off series, bad stretches, and etc. Vlad wasn't the only one doing bad. Granted, I wasn't happy with him, just to make that clear. Rather, I was more frustrated with why we were keeping him in Game 4 and Game 5, when it was clear he was off. To me, this lands 100% on Ron's shoulders. As the manager of the team, you have to make that call, and decide which defense is the best, then use the other fielder as your DH. In my personal opinion, I feel Nellie @ 7 and Francouer @ 9 is the best, but my room mate disagrees. Either way, I'd be fine with seeing Murphy or Francouer DHing the last two games. This is only the beginning of the grievances I hold against Ron.

Next, let's look @ CLee. He's a beast, but he's a human. Believe it or not, pitchers do have an off day. From the first inning I knew he was fucked. He was missing across the plate from where Bengie was placing the glove. There's a balance of decisions here, because you need CLee to fake it, and get some valuable innings, which ultimately I felt he did given the circumstances. However, the management of the bullpen from there on out was beyond frustrating. It was sickening. Do we really need five pitchers in every single game? Less is more in this case, in my opinion. I think we continuously saw how much we got bit in the ass by over managing our bullpen. To be honest, I was fine with all of our starters performances throughout the series, and really in the playoffs for that fact. Everyone had good to great starts. Hunter struggled granted, but I give credit to San Francisco for having 9, 10, 11 pitch at bats. His pitch count was in the mid-60s in the third inning if I remember correctly. Also, Feliz did good as well. The issue I felt was the relief pitching, and more-so the over management of it, bringing guys in and out constantly.

As I write this, I am just getting more and more frustrated, and this isn't as therapeutic as I thought it was going to be. Therefore, this will be my last point to blow off some steam. We faced the NYY in the ALCS. Josh Hamilton was killing them. Who bats after Josh Hamilton? Vlad, that's right. Who was sucking? Vlad, that's right. What did they do over, and over, and over again? Intentionally walk Josh to get to Vlad. So, a week later or so, here we are in Game 5. We have a situation with 2 guys on, and Edgar comes up to the plate. Granted, I don't think he's a beast, but he's a good hitter none-the-less. More importantly, he has been MURDERING us. 3/4 the night before, and something like 0/2 with a line drive, pop up, and walk. There's an open base, so the potential to walk him is there. This is where management should occur. If it's Huff or Ross up next, sure, pitch to Edgar, whatever. I can't microscope that decision given those circumstances. But these were not the circumstances! Rowan was up, a guy that looked HORRIBLE all night, and hasn't played or hit in a long time. So you have the option to pitch to one of their hottest hitters, maybe only second to Torres, or pitch around him and go for the guy that looks horrible. We all know what happened. Rowan hit a pop up after the 3 run bomb. Awesome.

I'm tired of even writing this at this point. So I'll just say this, I hope Ron Washington gets fired, or moved.

In fact, I'm tired of a lot of Texas sports.

The Texas Gods of Spots, please listen. Please get me a new Cowboys and Rangers coach, I feel like they are running my baseball nights and Sundays.

All this coming from a Indians fan first and foremost, and then a Rangers fan. For all of those die hard Rangers fan first, sorry you had to go through the shit management.

For all of those die hard Rangers fan first, sorry you had to go through the shit management.

i heard that molina was giving the walk him sign and lee waved it off.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/tex/texas-rangers) general manager Jon Daniels said his first priority this offseason will be to extend manager Ron Washington's contract.

More on the Rangers

http://a.espncdn.com/i/teamlogos/mlb/med/trans/tex.gifRichard Durrett and the rest of the ESPNDallas.com team have the inside scoop on the Rangers, the American League and Major League Baseball. Blog (http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/texas-rangers)

Daniels has talked often in the past few months about Washington being the manager long term in Texas.
"First things first, we'll address our own free agents as most clubs will, first priority being Wash," Daniels said. "I don't think that'll be an issue whatsoever. I would imagine once it's all said and done, we will sit down and resolve that pretty quickly. There's no doubt in anybody's mind that he'll be the skipper here for some time to come."

"All the naysayers out there who are saying I couldn't do it … we couldn't do it … we shut them all up,'' Lincecum said.

I have no problem at all with that quote. The only problem I have with Lincecum is that I can't root for him as a player on my favorite team. Because that would be fucking awesome.

Potential Free Agents for 2011 (http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2001/05/potential-free-agents-for-2011.html)

The following players have contracts expiring or should have the six years of service necessary to become free agents after the 2010 season.

* - player whose current contract includes 2011 option

Catchers
Brad Ausmus LAD
Rod Barajas LAD
Josh Bard SEA
Henry Blanco NYM
John Buck TOR
Ramon Castro CWS
Ramon Hernandez CIN
Reed Johnson LAD
Gerald Laird DET
Jason LaRue STL
Victor Martinez BOS
Chad Moeller NYY
Jose Molina TOR
Miguel Olivo COL *
A.J. Pierzynski CWS
David Ross ATL
Yorvit Torrealba SD *
Matt Treanor TEX
Jason Varitek BOS
Gregg Zaun MIL *

I'd re-sign Treanor because he is a solid guy who has a lot of respect in the clubhouse. He has no bat and an average arm, but I like him. His pinch hit in Florida in the 9th inning with two outs is one of my favorite moments from this year. But there are some interesting names here.

2010 started with 11 pitchers on the roster. A guess?

Lee
Wilson
Lewis
Hunter
Holland
Kirkman
Nippert/Feldman
Lowe
O'Day
Ogando
Feliz

That assumes Frankie is gone. They gave Feldie the contract, but they obviously trusted Nippert more for the post-season. This also leaves out Rapada and Harrison. (And McCarthy obviously)

Position players seems very up in the air. Need 14 for opening day roster.

For sure:

Moreland
Kinsler
Andrus
Young
Hamilton
Cruz
Murphy (4th outfielder if you don't want Josh in cf)
2 catchers (I agree Treanor should probably be back. Bengie's too old and fat)

Backup corner infielder, preferably right handed (is Chris Davis done here?)
starting center fielder? Is Borbon the guy? Gentry?
DH--No thanks Vlad.
Utility infielder--Blanco again? Anyone on the horizon in the organization besides German?
Does Francoeur come back as a 5th outfielder/1b/DH?

There's alot of FA options, but if a guy can be above-average defensively, provide a veteran presence and help the young guys, and manage the staff, I don't think we really need an above-average bat. Just a guy that doesn't look lost at the plate.

Only reason we might open with 11 Ps is if we have a lot of off days early, otherwise it will be 12. Nippert will most likely not be back.

Dang, forgot about that. It's going to be a crowded bullpen. That's rarely a bad thing though. Earn it in Spring Training and be prepared to be replaced if you can't hack it when the season starts.

I'm all for Ogando being our main 8th inning guy to get it to Feliz. I've had it with Frankie Frank.

enjay
11-02-2010, 08:42 PM
yeah, ogando then feliz makes a great 8th and 9th.

is it anywhere likely that ogando can be groomed into a starter? i don't really know how pitchers get designated into their roles. i assume it has something to do with arm strength and endurance as well as having a few quality pitches. ogando had those horrible numbers when brought into the middle of an inning, but great numbers at the start of an inning. is that a sign that he's destined to be starter?

u2-horn
11-02-2010, 09:16 PM
I think mostly it's a matter of how many pitches you can command and the quality of those pitches. Kinda the same reason Feliz may ultimately be best suited for closing too. They have their fastballs and sliders. And that's about it. To start they would need a more effective straight change and another fastball/cutter. Ogando only started pitching 5 years ago though. He was originally an outfielder. He did start 3 games in Frisco.

This is potential good news:

Does Kevin Youkilis know something we don't? It sounds that may be the case, as the rehabbing all-star told reporters over the weekend that "I'm preparing myself to play third base."

But Youkilis adds that he's preparing to be the third baseman in Boston next year but only because he does not want to be caught off guard. "Because if you prepare yourself to play third base and you play first, it's an easy transition."

The Red Sox appear ready to let free agent third baseman Adrian Beltre walk away which opens the door for the acquisition of a mashing first baseman such as Prince Fielder or Adrian Gonzalez.

If he demands a trade and there's a legitimate one out there, I wouldn't blink. He's our Jeter. If he wants to play nice and retire here, I'm all for it. this is one of my best friend's thank you letter to the rangers. he's one of the guys i was so happy for during this run. i couldn't even get him to go watch game 1 or 2 w/ me at a bar, or even have me over to watch it because he was so wound up. he said to me, "i'm 38 and i'll never get married. the rangers in the world series is my children. this is it for me, one way or the other."

i know a bunch of you are ticket fans - he used to be on a panel discussion several years ago (03? 04?). if you remember "coach" that's him. (no idea if anyone ever listened to that show but his friends, but thought i'd throw that out there.)

I am a 38 year old white guy from Dallas proper (aka, the Hood). I have never been married, nor do I have any children.

So, as a self-declared “Sports Nerd”, the Rangers making the World Series is the greatest experience of my life (a 2004 Playboy Mansion party ranks a close 2nd).

Growing up in Dallas and cheering for the Rangers for as long as I can remember having a home team, we always had “next year.” Well, not this year!

In the 80’s, we had our Reunion Rowdies (and Pony Express). In the 90’s we had Americas Team rolling. In the 00’s, our Mavs made another run (I was there for Game 6). I loved all of those teams. But, not like I’ve loved my Texas Rangers.

So, the Rangers making the World Series is the pinnacle of this “Sports Nerd’s” life, and I wanted to use this platform to thank our 2010 Texas Rangers:

Thank You Michael (for being the face of this franchise for 1508 fruitless games).

Thank You Kins and Elvis (for being the best double play duo for the next 5 to 8 years).

Thank you Mitch (for potentially being the best of the 3, 1st base prospects).

Thank you Benjie (for the cycle).

Thank you Matt (for having a hot, volleyball playing wife).

Thank you Cliff (for staying?).

Thank you Josh (for sobering up and capitalizing your Roy Hobbs skillz).

Thank You Nellie (for Boomstick).

Thank you Big Bad Vlad (for your 115 RBIs, now take your plate discipline and declining skills elsewhere).

Thank you CJ (for being a little odd, and forcing your way into the rotation).

Thank you Colbyashi (for your trip to Japan).

Thank you Big Game (for your big games, even if you didn’t have any in the post season).

Thank you Neftie (for your right arm).

Thank you Darren Ol. (for being older than me and playing like you’re in your 20s).

Thank you Darren Od. (for my experience of singing ODAY, ODAY, ODAY, OOOOOOOOODAY, OOOOOOOOOODAY, at game 3 of the World Series).

Thank you Frankie Frank (oh how we missed you).

Thank you Derrick(for being the next David Price).

Thank you Alexi (for getting back stateside).

Thank you Tom Hicks (for nothing!!!! So please go visit Liverpool, I hear you are LOVED in the Old Country).

Thank you Chuck and Nolan (for buying this team, now spend money like we’re in a top 5 market please).

Thank you JD (for putting this team together).

Finally, a big thanks to Wash (for being human, and being the kind of Coach these guys want to play for).

Thank You to all the Texas Rangers for the entire 2010 Season. Now you’ve gotten to the Mountain Top. The bar has been set to a new level. Now we have “next year”, it’s time to claw and antler our way over the top!

Future Articles will address: What the Rangers need to do this off-season? The “sports abortion” known as the Dallas Cowboys. The woes of our Lottery bound Mavs…

I hadn't realized it so I looked it up at BR.com. He only hit 4th five times in '10 and his numbers weren't very good (.176/.250/.176 with 0 HR, 2 RBI) in 20 PA's. He batted cleanup 31 times in '09 and was .231/.331/.491 with 7 HR, 13 RBI in '09. Still, I think hitting cleanup between Hamilton and somebody like Dunn, which would create a L-R-L troika of great hitters would be extremely appealing.

Don't know why we would. If we don't exercise Vlad's option, I think we'll see a DH platoon of Hamilton, Young, Murphy, with the other yro in the field. Rangers don't need an outfielder.

This post makes no sense. In order for Young to DH, someone has to play 3B. And Berkman has played as many innings in the OF as I have since '07...

Apparently, TR Sullivan reporting the Rangers have declined Vlad's $9m option.

Please, please don't re-sign him!!!!!!

Fuck, fuck, fuck...

The Rangers have officially declined the mutual option on Vladimir Guerrero, though general manager Jon Daniels said that both parties agreed before last season that neither side would agree to the option. The option was basically designed as a way to give Guerrero an extra $1 million without it affecting the 2010 payroll. Manager Ron Washington said he expects Guerrero to return. "Without a doubt," Washington said.

They would go after Beltre as a 3rd baseman.

That's what we all want, but that hasn't even remotely been rumored by anyone with ties to the organization. Wishful thinking, I'm afraid...

Indeed. Multiple years @ > $10M plus the loss of our 1st round pick.

idea was thrown out on one of the blogs today. bbtia/newberg/something. maybe it was evan grant.

i'm not necessarily in favor of it--i think his bat is suspect, and at most gets us what vlad gets us, and he's cheaper. the upside is that he plays 3b very well, and moves face from the corner to the dh spot. but to do this, it doesn't necessarily have to be beltre.

No offense hitby, but you're a little late to the party with that idea.

And there is a 0% chance Beltre is cheaper than Vlad...

Am I reading something wrong?

Beltre had 70 points in OPS above Vlad, is only 31, and is one of the very best defensive 3B in the game. He's going to get a long, expensive contract.

The good news is that the Mets and Yankees are out of the bidding because of Wright and Arod, and who knows about the Dodgers because of that divorce mess. But I suspect that the Angels will throw a lot of money at him.

I don't want Beltre. They're not gonna move MYoung from 3rd next year anyway. It's looking like Vlad will be back too. They still need a backup corner, a center fielder, and a catcher. And John Buck is terrible at throwing out baserunners, fwiw.

I don't like him either, but someone in our front office does because we tried to get him last year. By comparison, here are the CS % of some potential FA targets:

Pierzynski: 27/102, 26%
Buck: 18/65, 28%
Torrealba: 22/60, 37%
Treanor: 17/61, 28%
Molina: 24/103, 23%

Basically, most Cs suck at throwing out runners these days...
