On a related note, it's a damn shame that the leading rusher in the nation is a Texas boy playing for a PAC-10 team while the flagship university from his home state struggles to find a running game of any kind.

Seems like the hot trend is to go no-huddle, fast tempo out of the spread. If you do it right you can run and pass with lethal proficiency.

How hard is it to land some athletes that won't be in federal prison in 5 years?
Of course Texas' problem isn't a lack of talent, they just don't develop any offensive talent.

Lache used a street agent, while nothing even remotely close to being involved with a murder, its still shadyright, read all about that. It smelled like shit, but didn't fail the legality/ncaa litmus test, so it's a draw. He's not a suspected murderer or a convicted thief, so the comparison was not accurate.

Why are you trying to make a point in the first place? Murder and theft are character issues. Again WIDE RANGE OF POSSIBLE CHARACTER ISSUES. Not a black and white issue. Also reading comprehension works wonders. No one on the duck team committed murder. NONE. One guy they recruited was involved in a murder - in the sense that he was at the party where it occurred and it was caused by some friends. Also Misouli is happily playing ball in Mississippi. Is theft questionable, yup, but apparently the legal authorities who know more about it than i do seem to think he was a good enough boy for probation only. Again questionable character issues - yes that includes shady street agents. And no dumb fuck, i didn't cure anything...but i sure as fucked linked everything to authorities on that post. Why not follow those links asshole.

It is! I've only been once but it was a lot of fun. It was either in 2003 or 2004 when Cal came in ranked. The game was more memorable because the stadium lights went out half way through the first half. It was funny just sitting in the dark.

They are fun to watch, but they still haven't played a top 40 D this year. I doubt anyone shuts them down completely , but I guarantee that offense can look pretty ordinary against a top D. Nebraska looked pretty unstoppable earlier in the year as well.

Exactly what I was thinking, cajun. It's funny how the screen game works so well when the other receivers get hands on defenders.
On a related note, it's a damn shame that the leading rusher in the nation is a Texas boy playing for a PAC-10 team while the flagship university from his home state struggles to find a running game of any kind.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Pac-10 fans don't travel as well as fans from the South, plus there is a larger distance gap to begin with. If Las Vegas had a suitable stadium I wouldn't be surprised if they made the title game there.

Outside of Seattle (Qwest Field but shitty weather in December), the Bay area (Oakland Coliseum or the 49ers new stadium and weather is an issue there), the Rose Bowl or Glendale, where else could they play? And I'll laugh my ass off if Oregon State gets better or Wazzu ever gets decent again and they have to play this thing in Corvallis or Pullman.

My guess is they will rotate something like this:
Qwest
Invesco
Rose
Glendale
one of the oregon schools
norcal venue #1 (oakland? sf?)
Qwest again
Rice-Eccles
Coliseum
Glendale again
the other oregon school

Just wanted to share this post I read tonight on BON regarding Texas talent at UO and their offensive firepower.
I do fault us for not having the rudimentary understanding of how to build an offense with a certain purpose. Darren Thomas has played the same amount of time as Gilbert, yet we’re still getting weekly reports about the coaches considering opening up the game or feeling a little bit more confident about Garrett as they change his diaper. Meanwhile, Thomas is running an infinitely more complicated (and exciting) offense at Oregon and throwing the ball all over the place (particularly down the middle of the field, a location somewhere between Valhalla and Mt. Olympus to the fan base by now).
THIS to infinity.

That display last night was both jaw-droppingly incredible, and nauseating at the same time. Nothing really new for Oregon, but accentuated somewhat on the national stage.

Agree, to a point. Oregon's offense is awesome and looks unstoppable, but it was awesome and looked unstoppable for the most of the 2009 season as well-- which was bookended by an 8-pt showing at Boise and a 17-pt, 260-yd showing in their Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State. Still, it sure looks like it could chew up and spit out anybody at this point.

Oregon's O-line may be the best I've ever seen. Seriously. On the Oregon TD that put them up 22-0, it looked like the UCLA defense was counting to 90-Mississippi before getting to him. He had ALL DAY, no pressure, no NOTHING -- it was breathtaking. And the O-line made it look effortless. I really watched the line on a few other plays, and saw the same thing -- complete domination. I switch channels, then come back to the halftime show, and Lou is talking about the O-line. Dude, if even LOU spots it as the difference-maker, it's pretty obvious.
Domination by a unit (O or D) is established at the LOS. Opulent LOS domination -- Oregon has it. I really think it doesn't matter that they have a so-so defense (and they aren't bad -- they just aren't nearly as good as the O) -- the offense can score damned near at will with that O-line. Just wait until the play develops, and it will eventually develop, then execute. THAT'S an offensive gameplan that can't lose.
Seriously, it made me puke to see an offense built around the right element, as compared to ours, with O-line play that has to be overcome as opposed to forming the rock-solid foundation for success.
Until blowU takes a loss (something I think is likely), I am rooting for all of the top teams to run the table. Oregon destroying UCLA is just fine by me.

Who gives a shit if you have no D when you can outscore your opponent in the amazing fashion Oregon is able to do. They can run the ball, they can pass the ball. No one has stopped them yet and a team that loses to Washington isn't going to either.

Yeah, the O-line is really the point. It's fine to wish for Oregon's offensive scheme, or the Chiles Should Starts 10 Yd Minimum, etc, but frankly it wouldn't matter what we ran if our offensive line could block people like that-- I'd have liked the offense we trotted out for Rice just fine if we'd been physical upfront and gashed them for 300 yards on the ground. Not to mention, the reptilian part of my brain likes the idea of Muschamp's defense backed by an offense that holds the ball for 35+ minutes with appropriate scoring efficiency.

If I was a UCLA defender during Oregon's ridiculous high tempo drives, I would just sit down and start crying. I can't believe how they don't make mistakes and everything is precise. That's some serious repetition but great, innovative coaching as well. When Texas does super duper hurry-up, the o-line misses half their blocks and we get stuffed for no gain. OU's is really sloppy in comparison too. To top it off, it's a simple offense but every play complements the others. There only have 4 running plays and a few passing plays, but they're run out of different formations and to different sides of the field without telegraphing anything.
I also like the aggressiveness in all phases of the game. It's better than what Mike Leach does because they're aggressive without being too stubborn about it. It's all high percentage, but you get the feeling that everyone on UCLA's team had no idea what was coming, whether on offense, defense or special teams.
