The first quarter was a disaster on every level, but it was shocking that they were missing point blank layups, the heart is what I got out of this, they could have mailed it in quite early.

It'd be nice to get this series overwith in 5 games, but I can see this going to 6 games because of a lack of focus. I think we can get to the Western Finals if Artest comes back motivated and focused, but you never know where his head is at so we'll see. We can get by without him in Game 1 if we have to, but I'd like to have him for the entire series because he's back in shape and can stay with Durant for stretches of the game.
Sweating a bit here down 6 on the road at halftime in game 4. Make no mistake: I still think the Lakers are more than 50% to win this game and more than 50% to win the series even if they don't win this game.
Here's what I don't like: in the first half of this game, Kobe is 5 of 13 while Bynum and Gasol are a combined 8 of 12. To be fair, I love Kobe and I eagerly await him shutting me up in the second half, but Denver can't do anything about Bynum or Gasol. They should be getting 15 to 20 shots each. Kobe should be quietly looking for 20 points, 8 assists, and some rest right now.
Let's go, Showtime. No need to make this a long series.
No one can call Gasol a bitch, well, for a couple of days at least. Gutty 2nd half to hold them to 37 points. Big shots from the role players and love the screen by Gasol on Gallinari.
after the Lakers close it out in Game 5, when will the Lakers - OKC begin? Artest will be eligible for Game 2, right? It's going to be interesting to see the crowd reaction @ OKC.
Buddy just called and said he has corporate tix for 4 of us to one of the games in OKC.
Nice!
We must have Perk if we want to win the series. Presti picked up Perk specifically to guard Bynum. It'd be a damning loss if he can't go the first few games
Lakers very flat thru 3Q in Game 5 , probably expecting Denver to give up (Utah) but J. McGee came to play! Might go 7 games, giving OKC plenty of rest and Artest a return before then.
and Bynum is suppose to be a franchise player? Riiiiiiiiigggghhhhtttttttt.
Why is it that the so called best 3 centers in the league are all whiney ass $#@!s?
you know kobe takes up everyone's stage right? Give Bynum an offensive set that features him with 40 touches and 20-25 shots a game and he'll dominate
Kobe went into "Kobe Mode". I wasn't mad at Bynum at all for mentally checking out of this game when they quit giving him the ball in the 1st half. Kobe just doesn't get it and likely never will. The bright side is Ron-Ron is available for the entire 2nd round. That's a pretty big deal and I'm glad he won't have to miss any games in that series.

The Lakers have no chance at the title this year. Pathetic perimeter and bench play will destroy you against a decent team.
I have to disagree here. Nearly the entire team looked like they didn't care except for Kobe. They would have lost by 30 if not for him.
I grow tired of Bynum being a bitch if he doesn't get the ball. He shuts down on both ends of the court and disrupts the team.
Barnes needs a bigger basket to shoot at.
I don't mind his frustration just like I didn't mind when Shaq would shut it down if he didn't get the ball. When you're a big man consistently establishing deep post position and you get just 8 shots, last night happens. Bryant quadrupled him on shot attempts and took more shots in the 1st quarter than Bynum did in the game. Big men that can control a game on both ends are a different breed. You have to give them the ball to keep them engaged.
I see where you're coming from with Bryant though. I just happen to believe that if the ball went through the post early and often, with either Bynum or Gasol, the outcome would've been different. Bryant's big scoring night wouldn't have been needed in my opinion.
I cringed when I saw him on Miller. He's torched the Lakers for years and no way in hell was Blake going to stop him. I kind of think this was probably an instance where Ron-Ron would've been needed. He would've been on the floor instead of Blake in that situation.
LA needs to pair Dwight Howard with Kobe and get rid of Bynum- the move just makes sense for both sides. Howard can become the best garbageman in the history of the league, concentrate on rebounds, defense and lobs and never have to worry about a single play being run for him, while Bynum can get 50 touches, 25 shots and lose in the first or 2nd round. Why didn't this happen in February again? Stupid.
No reason to replace Bynum with Howard. Neither should be considered #1 options IMO, but would be great #2 players.
Not sure why JMT excuses Bynum for "checking out" all the time. The guy gets paid millions of dollars to be a basketball player and needs to act like a professional. There's no question in my mind that Bynum has the talent to be the best center in the game. He's just an $#@! and a quitter. Bad combo for a supposed franchise type of player.
Bynum got shut out when he was allowing Mosgov to keep him off the block and push him way out of the post. Then once Bynum would get the ball he would try and force the issue and end stumbling all over the place and turning over the ball. He was doing nothing yesterday to continue getting consistent touches. Then he allowed Javelle to come in and eat his lunch. Dude has no clue how to handle a double team either. Not sure why people want to believe in this kid so much, when he shows time and time again he is NOT a franchise player.
This is Bynum's 7th NBA season. I don't see a good reason to think the guy will mature in the future. If he hasn't figured out yet, he never will. Elite skill plus $#@! for brains equals not a franchise player...he's a #2 option at best.
FTR I feel the same way about Dwight Howard. Never been a big fan and it's a joke to consider him a franchise player. Don't get all the love he receives from NBA GMs and beat writers.

Well this is his first season of not being injured so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Shaq came to the Lakers at the age of 24 and he helped get the franchise three straight titles and four appearances in the NBA Finals in his eight seasons. I'm willing to roll the dice on Bynum since he's the same age, but ultimately it comes down to whether Jerry, Jimmy and Mitch feel the same way. Depending upon how things go in these playoffs will probably determine how confident they are in Bynum staying with LA. If we flame out against the team on the other side of the Red River and Bynum looks like hot garbage against that clown who used to play for THOSE GUYS, well, all bets are off. The trade rumors to Orlando will be back on the front burner if things go really badly in the 2nd round.
Is future 1st ballot Hall of Famer Gasol suspended for this series too? I haven't seen him in a while.
Kobe doing his best sick Jordan impersonation.
I completely skipped watching this game because I just don't enjoy watching them play basketball right now, at all. Judging by the boxscore I'm sure the Kobe fans are happy with his performance because wins and losses don't matter to those folks. The two Laker teams I've hated watching more than any other since I became a fan during the 86-87 season are this team and the one from last season that completely $#@! on Phil Jackson's final season. I'm guessing Gasol checked out of this game, but I'll leave that observation to those who watched the game.
I loved the 92-93 team that played its ass off all season and wound up as the 8th seed with a 39-43 record. You had Big Game James on his last legs, a young Vlade, Threatt, Sam Perkins, Elden Campbell, A.C. Green and Byron Scott among others. They were a not called Charles Barkley offensive goaltending away from beating the Suns in Game 5. I still maintain that it was bull$#@! to this day that it wasn't called and if I ever meet Sir Charles that'd be the first thing I say to him. Point is that team maximized what they had and I was more proud of them than any Laker team I've ever watched. This team is garbage and they deserve the beatdown they took tonight.
I want to add that I just listened to Shaq and he called Bynum's ass out for what happened tonight. He needs to get his $#@! together before Saturday night. Shaq's comments were right on the money about what it means to be the center for the Lakers.
Bynum just isn't mature enough to win a championship. He could be THE cog in any team... he just doesn't give a $#@!.
I think he wants his own team and really doesn't want to play 2nd fiddle to Bryant. His complete shutdown in Game 5 kind of sealed what I think of him deferring to Kobe. He doesn't like it at all and while I think he's a helluva talent and I like having him on the team, he might be better served playing in Florida where he can shoot 20-25 shots a game. He doesn't seem to like deferring to anyone and in Lakerland that's a big issue. I just want guys who want to be Lakers and Bynum really seems to be saying he wants his own team by his actions this year.
Shaq has really stepped up his analyst game for the playoffs. Straight up preaching tonight.
I would be happy if the '06 Machine were here to come off the bench or maybe Madsen. He was always good for some hustle and laughs.
Hasn't done anything to make this his own team. He hasn't earn $#@!. Where does this entitlement of his come from? All he is displaying is exactly why he will never be a franchise player. Your hate for Kobe clouds your judgement. You want to see someone else in control so bad your willing to give it to someone who doesn't even pride himself for being a Laker. By the end of Bynums career Kobe will still have done 10x more things for this franchise. You'll appreciate Kobe more when he is gone.
If we lose Game 7, does Mike Brown return next season?
I think the only way this team can compete with this nucleus of players is if Barnes & Blake become our #8 & #9, not our #6 & #7. If we don't blow up the roster by trading Bynum and /or Gasol, we won't be competing for titles for a long time.
the return of Artest will change the emotional dynamic and player rotation for Game 7. I don't think LA is going to get blown out and the game will be close
As T'Boo said, the entitlement comes from Jimmy. My dislike of this incarnation of Bryant has no effect on what I think of the rest of the team. I don't believe Bryant to be a great leader. I don't think Bynum is one either, but Phil Jackson said to have patience with young big men like Bynum. I'm willing to defer to the man that coached him his first six seasons with the Lakers.
Do I enjoy watching Bryant play? Not really. I used to love watching him suit up for the Purple and Gold. #8 Kobe was the one I liked. That Game 4 performance in the 2000 Finals was the stuff of legend. When Shaq fouled out and he went to him and said "I got this" and the camera saw it, that was amazing. It's still his marquee moment in the Finals and I don't know what will ever top it. I really just don't care for #24 Kobe. Bryant's a helluva competitor so I'll give him that. I won't have anymore appreciation for him when he retires because players come and go. I'm a fan of the laundry, not a player. The only time I ever rooted for a player was Magic. He was my childhood hero. As an adult I have no attachment to a singular player on the team. I really also don't care for individual accomplishments. All I care about is the Lakers winning more titles.
If Bynum is around long-term then I'm going to want to see him bring the Lakers more World Championship banners. If management wants to move him and get someone else they think will bring the team more titles that's fine too. Bynum has stated several times that he enjoys being a Laker and wants to be the next in the line of great Laker centers. He has a bunch of growing up to do, but I guess the proof is in the pudding. I guess we'll see if he continues to grow as a player or if he takes the opposite route and plays his way out of town with childish antics and ridiculous comments that he isn't backing up.

Players come and go, legends do not. Being a laker fan I know that's hard to comprehend due to the history of legends we have but Bryant isn't just a player. How would you feel about Bryant if he acted like Bynum does now his first six years in the league? Even though he had to defer to Shaq Kobe still produced at a high level, played defense or whatever was necessary to win. That's the stuff franchise players are made of. We do not get that out of Bynum. As far as being patient its his 7th year in the league. He is what he is. Marginal player with some post moves, attitude issues and NO heart. Sure he has his flashes, but so do most role players. Should never be nothing more than a 3rd option on a team. He could be dominant in that if he would settle for a Tyson Chandler type role. Instead he had been gassed up as if he is even half the player Shaq was.
