nice pick up. may or may not beat out sharpton, either way he's quality depth
I can see him filling a leadership/mentoring role, due to his experience in wade's scheme.
Hopefully we can get some on-field production out of him.
Vince Young on Texans "I Would love to play at home"
Vince Young wants to be a Texan. And he will tell anyone who listens.
On Thursday, he repeated his desire to play for the Texans on KILT radio here in Houston. Via sportsradiointerviews.com
“I would love to play at home,” the former Madison and UT star quarterback said. “That would be a dream come true and anything I can do to help out with the team.”
“All I can do is just stay ready, keep working out and training in Houston and waiting for that opportunity to come.”

I just want this to happen because it would be so funny to watch the comments on Shaggy.

not sure how good bradie james is, i wish they would've waited until the draft tho, i wanted dont'a hightower but that idea doesnt seems likely anymore.
James came cheap Veteran's minimum of $825,000, $250k guaranteed, $65k signing bonus.
Damn, VY as the backup would be so much fun. Come on Texans, make this happen!
Digging the James signing. Allows the Texans to use their draft picks for other things if they want to instead of being forced to draft ILB depth. Though they could very well still pick LB if there's someone they like available.
James is spent. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make it out of preseason. Tim Dobbins is more probable.
Days before the draft...what's the thinking with you guys?
I'm leaning toward Hill IF we make a pick. Still think we trade out of the 1st round...someone might want to grab Weeden...
I am warming up to the idea of drafting another pass rusher like Nick Perry of USC in the 1st. WR is very deep this year so we could find a good one in the 2nd round.
This. An OL in the first wouldn't be bad either.
The players I like in the first are, in no order, Kendall Wright, Stephen Hill, Jonathan Martin, Mike Adams, Courtney Upshaw, Nick Perry, Whitney Mercilus, Shea McClellin(?), or Dont'a Hightower but I doubt we'll draft an ILB this year. It all depends on who available tho.
id rather take a DE or OL with that 1st pick than wr
it's looking like pass rusher in 1st, wr in 2nd. i'm totally ok with that.
Yeah, it's looking more likely that Wright will be gone by 26, and I think that Randle and Hill (and especially Jeffrey and Sanu) are reaches there. I could live with an OLB or OT at this spot, though I'm still holding out hope that Wright falls to us, I just don't see him making it past both Cincinnatti and Cleveland with their 2nd picks...
I agree, I'd much rather go OLB or OL than reach for a WR in the first.
I'm with y'all...can get WR later, but my $$$$ is WR in round 1.
I'd love to get another pass rusher or a OL. If only Glenn would last to 26. Hell, I'd take Silatolu there too.
Position Mock (no trades) :
1. WR
2. OLB
3. OL
4. CB
4. TE
5. BPA
6. BPA
7. BPA
I expect to see a QB taken somewhere on day 3.

Too many good WRs in this draft to take Wright at 26. If we even keep the pick, I'd be happiest with OLB here and WR next. Kubiak's system has always used a different type of OL, I think we can get value in this draft lower.
I am planning to get my drink on for this, but, if we trade away our 1st rounder I'm not going to watch at all.
with the depth this year's draft has, id love for us to trade down and pick up
some extra picks
dont forget a TE to replace dreeson
This mock draft has us taking Whitney Mercilus from ILL at #26
http://walterfootball.com/draft2012_1.php
I like this mock for the most part.
1st. Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
2nd. Alameda Ta'amu, NT, Washington
3rd. Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt ~Hate this pick, I don't mind picking a CB in this draft, just too early IMO. Bruce Irvin was available here, I'd go with him.~
4th. Greg Childs, WR, Arkansas
4th. Nigel Bradham, LB, Florida State ~Meh pick, would probably go with DE depth~
5th. James Hanna, TE, Oklahoma ~Meh pick as well, doesn't have good stats, even playing in OU's spread offense with Landry~
6th. Vick Ballard, RB, Mississippi State
7th. Blair Walsh, K, Georgia

im damn fine with martin at 26, five year starter hopefully
hanna had a killer combine, very fast for a te
i was wonder about broyles in the last round ? the guy had GREAT numbers before his injury
I know Hanna had a good combine, don't know if we should draft him or not. Is he a workout warrior or a football player?
and Broyles will probably go in the 4th-6th, even after his injury.
I doubt he's there when we pick, but I'd be all over that.
It'll be interesting to see if the Texans regard any of the non Blackmon/Floyd WRs (Wright, Hill, Randle, Jeffrey) as true 1st rounders, or if they figure the depth there is good enough this year to wait a round or two. If that's the case (and if Mercilus is gone), I'd bet on either Martin or Coby Fleener, either of which I'd be fine with. Both our OTs are going to be free agents after next season, and Daniels has had some injury problems in the past, plus is scheduled to make $4MM and $4.5MM in 2013 and 2014. A little insurance for either of those guys wouldn't be a bad idea.
In a perfect world though, Wright will be there at #26 and end up being as good a pro as I think he's going to be...
We might go with Coby Fleener tonight. If we're going offense in the first round, then I'd prefer him over Randle for sure, but give me Wright or Hill over Fleener.
i think the Texans are in the BPA mode. Since we aren't privy to their draft board, who knows?
the #2 in the texans offense needs to be a GREAT blocker first, wr second
imo
I think OL is the biggest need on this team right now, even moreso than WR and TE. Schaub has been KO'd three times in the last five years. He just doesn't take hits well, so the hits to be minimized. I'd like to see something like OL, WR, OL, TE then take some fliers late. If Broyles is there in the 5th, I say grab him. The coaches can explain the whole no-bags-of-$#@!s-anymore thing to him.
Same here. ACL or no, he'll still give us 90% of what JJ does...
i wouldnt mind the texans picking up broyles at all. even if he has to spend a year on the practice squad
It is Mercilus. I like it.
I feel alright with this because of Wade, but the one year deal makes me pause.
there was no reason to reach and pick a WR when you know a rookie WR isn't gonna get a ton of looks in Kubiak's offense anyway. As long as Andre stays healthy we'll be fine at WR since Owen Daniels and Arian Foster were #1 and #2 in receptions last year. They will get one on day 2 for sure.
I wanted o-line or defense after Kendall Wright came off the board. I'll take it.
I wish that drug-addled mexican arabian was still aroud. His meltdown would be excellent.
The Texans lost a premier pass rusher via free agency. They likely expect they found a replacement Thursday.
Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus went to the Texans with the No. 26 pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, a pass-rush specialist selected to step in for another quarterback killer, Mario Williams, who left the team in the offseason.
The 6-foot-4-inch, 265-pound Mercilus was a consensus first-team All-American and the winner of the Ted Hendricks Award as the nation's top defensive end after leading the nation and the Big Ten in sacks (16.0), sacks per game (1.23) and forced fumbles (9).
Mercilus totaled 57 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, nine forced fumbles, six quarterback hurries, one pass break-up and one fumble recovery in 2011, leaving the Illini after his junior year for the Draft.
JPP of this class IMO.
I like it, plenty of WRs and OL available tomorrow
Jonathan Martin, Cordy Glenn, Mike Adams, Bobbie Massie are available. Someone is bound to be available @ #56.
Wouldn't mind Stephen Hill or Rueben Randle in the 2nd either... Damn I can't wait for tomorrow.
