    Was That SB special?

It was close but so are a lot of NFL games. It was a well competed game...like one you would see in late November or early December. I'm sure this will get rammed down our throat as another unbelievable SB but to me it seemed very ho hum lacking a transcendent moment or moments that some other truly great SBs have had.

    You?

it was a good game and the manningham catch on the sideline was a great play, but i agree that if this wasn't the superbowl people wouldn't remember it 6 weeks from now.

now if brady had lead new england down the field for the winning touchdown...

I wouldn't say it was the best superbowl of the decade, but it definitely wasn't ho hum. It was a pretty damn good game and I definitely enjoyed it. What made this game great was that it had a bunch of other stories and plots that came along with the game itself.

It was a chance for the Pats to come out and seek revenge for their previous superbowl meeting.
It was a chance for Eli to solidify himself as an elite QB.
It was a chance for Brady and Belichick to get that 4th ring and enter legendary status.
It was a chance for the Giants defense to take down another very good team after beating the Falcons, Packers, and 49s on the road.

It was a physical game that came down to the wire with some big exciting plays.

I don't mean that the teams necessarily played meadokerly, just that it was a meadoker game. Not a lot of excitement and some very vanilla playcalling. First three quarters were a C to me, 4th quarter was an A. Better than a blowout Super Bowl for sure.

I'm going to remember it for how $#@!ing identical it was to the SB a few years ago.

Brady's avoiding the sack and throwing an INT looked EXACTLY like the Tyree play with the opposite result.
Welker dropping that easy catch to ice the game reminded me of Asante Samuel doing the same.
Manningham was again reminiscent or Tyree and how crucial an inch is.
Wide open TD for the game winner.
Brady not left with enough time.
Near miss hail mary. This time Gronk instead of Moss.

    Should just consolidate the two.

i've noticed a trend over the last 4 or 5 years, as the superbowl continues to become a reflection of the disparity of wealth in this country, that the energy and buzz that's missing in a neutral-site game really translates on the telecast. there's no roar in the background. as a neutral hating on both teams, i spent more time reading the shag than i did watching actual plays, because the telecast has had the air let of out it. it's a flat. i'm sure if i had a dog in the hunt it would be more compelling.

I will remember the $300 I won on taking NY's points and the under.

The gimme touchdown and 12-on-field penalty made it interesting too.

I also took NY points and the under... i think that was a pretty popular bet for the superbowl since vegas definitely set the over/under way too high, and everyone hates the patriots

Oh good, another shaggy thread about how something isnt as great as everyone else says it is. How many Super Bowls have come down to the last play? Honest question. Off the top of my head, I can think of 5, including this one. I dont know the number, but I'd guess that less than a third of them have come down to the last play. Both teams had good story lines, both teams played well, both teams had big plays, we saw some things we've never seen before (imagine the people who made a killing on the prop bet of a safety being the first score in the Super Bowl), I mean come on. Was it the greatest Super Bowl ever? No, and it might not even be top 10. That being said, it's a very realistic possibility that we could 5 or 6 Super Bowls in a row that aren't as good as this one. And that Manningham catch WAS an all time catch.

So I agree with the people here who said it was a good game. it wasnt mediocre, it was well played and entertaining, and it came down to a hail mary that came surprisingly close to being caught to win the Super Bowl. I doubt we'll see that scenario play out in a Super Bowl again for a loooooong time.

It was okay. I don't think it can be considered a bad game when both teams had a chance to win it in the last 2 minutes.
I will say it was 100 times better than this years BCS National Championship game.

i thought it was boring as $#@!.

The Patriots had the long drive to close out the 1st half and looked to be coming out of the craptastic funk that they were in during first half. then they laid an egg in the 3rd quarter.

The Giants running game which should be dominant left a lot to be desired.

Way too many drops for an NFL game.

Who stepped up on defense? It was more of a product of the offenses killing themselves.

When it came to picking an MVP, there was none. Nobody stood out in that way. Both teams were playing not to lose and it sucked.

It was mostly a pretty well-played game with very few standout plays until the last drive. Nothing to really knock your socks off.

The gw drive was awesome and Manning played a very sharp game.

Probably the first time in SB history we saw a running back try NOT to score a TD. That was entertaining.

Overall, not exciting but it was interesting.

One of the better SBs, but that's not saying that much. Of course, the other Giants-Pats SB and the Steelers-Cards SB were both super awesome.

Not really. The first one was much more memorable. Lot of mistakes in this game.

I do think that overall it was the best NFL playoff season in seven or eight years. At least one exciting game in every round. The Super Bowl was average compared to the first meeting though.

All Giants fans are going on about it being one of the best SBs ever. And they would be wrong.

My opinion was that it was an above average SB but that's it. And I think we're past the point of ranking the Super Bowls. Only a few obsessive geeks even attempt to keep that many games in mind.

    This.

It wasn't the GREATEST... SUPER BOWL... EVER, but it was high in entertainment value and it was fun to see the Hoodie and the Golden Boy go down in flames again.

Because Bradshaw went ahead and scored the touchdown, am I correct that Scott Norwood's miss is still the only last minute come-from-behind field goal attempt in Super Bowl history?

Jim O'Brien kicked one at the end to beat Dallas 16-13 (I think there were a few seconds left after he made it), Adam Viniatieri beat the Rams at the gun 20-17, and Viniatieri beat the Panthers with a few seconds remaining 32-29.

I do think that overall it was the best NFL playoff season in seven or eight years. At least one exciting game in every round. The Super Bowl was average compared to the first meeting though.
the first meeting was 0-0 at halftime.

it was a good game, certainly better than most SB's, Eli & Brady both trying to drive for the win at the end, wouldn't call it anything near "great," though, some much better ones in the past 10 years.

I wanted to milk the clock and go for the kick, smartest move leaving Brady only about 30 seconds and wasting NE's final TO, and at the same time I'm thinking Tynes was going to Norwood it, b/c it would just be fitting for that to happen at that time.

It was ok, better than average, but I can name at least a dozen that were better Super Bowls.

    Rams-Titans
    Giants 17-Pats 14
    49ers 20-Bengals 16
    Broncos-Packers
    Giants-Bills
    Steelers 35-Cowboys 31
    Saints-Colts
    Packers-Steelers
    Steelers-21-Cowboys 17
    Pats-Panthers
    Colts-Cowboys
    Steelers-Cards

Refuse to list Pats-Rams because those dirty $#@!s got away with blatant cheating, but U2 scrolling the 9/11 names to Where the Streets Have No Name was one of the most moving moments in the history of US television.
