Good to get in the win column. Also good to see some fight at the end.

Oh My Gosh! Alf finally managed to NOT blow a lead! yeah~ who would have thought the Astors would have a better record ? good thing I'm a fan
Maybe the Tigers are just realllllllly good?
"Prince" Felix did well enough. 5 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K, 2 ER. Aceves with the save!!!
And more importantly... Sox win. Let's see what Bard - the starter, for now - can do tomorrow.
he's got heat, but i seem to remember him giving up like 1 hr/appearance. good hitters hit his fastball into the parking lots.
My Opening Day tix fell through.
...guess I'll have to settle for Saturday instead.
Well, that sucked.
Hopefully the friendly confines of Fenway treat them better. Did you know it's the 100th year at Fenway Park??? :)
Also, I'm worried about Youk. If his 2nd half slump from last year continues thru 2012, WMB can't get here soon enough...
Ugh. Hopefully this is just a minor issue...
Crawford has sore elbow checked out
Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford was in Boston Tuesday to be checked out by team doctors because of a sore left elbow.
The issue is believed to be minor, according to team sources. The remedy could be as simple as cutting back on throwing for a few days.
Crawford is on the disabled list as he recovers from surgery on his left wrist. Before the elbow issue cropped up, he was close to playing in extended spring training games in Fort Myers, Fla.
Crawford had the surgery in January, then suffered a setback during spring training when he started taking batting practice. The Red Sox shut him down for about 10 days and Crawford never played in a game.
Manager Bobby Valentine has estimated that Crawford would need approximately 50 at-bats before being activated. The earliest that could happen would be sometime in May.
Good news: Sox are absolutely crushing the Rays. Beckett has looked great, Gonzo & Shoppach(!) have three hits a piece, Youk is 2-4 with 3 RBI...
Bad news: Jacoby injured shoulder. Hopefully it's nothing, but it very well could be something bad.
Ellsbury leaves game with shoulder injury
I pray to everything holy that he's okay. The last thing I want is for Reid Brignac to turn into the next Al Reyes...Boston Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury left Friday's game holding his right arm to his body after he was injured sliding into second base in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Red Sox announced it was a right shoulder injury and that Ellsbury will be evaluated further.
Ellsbury was running on a 3-and-2 pitch when Rays shortstop Reid Brignac, who moved toward second when Ellsbury broke for the bag, fielded a ground ball by Dustin Pedroia, stepped on the base and threw to first. Brignac was upended by Ellsbury's slide and fell heavily on the center fielder's shoulder.
Cody Ross moved to center and Ryan Sweeney entered the game to play right field.
The injury comes almost two years to the day that Ellsbury fractured ribs in a collision with third baseman Adrian Beltre in Kansas City.
Ellsbury played just 18 games for the Red Sox in 2010, then had a breakout year last season, batting .321 with 32 home runs and 105 RBIs and finishing second in the MVP race.

I had not realized that Varitek Wife 2.0 was such a significant upgrade. Holy smokes, she's gorgeous.
MRI reveals a dislocated or partially dislocated shoulder for Jacoby.
According to Gordon Edes, he will miss a minimum of 6 weeks.
http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/ar...k_bos&c_id=bosFirst came the belly flop, then came the spoils.
Red Sox backup catcher Kelly Shoppach was toting second base around the clubhouse after a 12-2 win over the Rays on Friday, his loot after swiping his first bag in eight Major League seasons -- on his first big league attempt. Built like a backstop and hardly limber, Shoppach had not recorded a stolen base in the pros since 2002, when he was in Class A ball in the Sox system.
"It was awesome. I actually have already got a great idea of how I'm going to hang [the base] up," said Shoppach, who stole second in the sixth with a runner on third and two out. "Still photo of me sliding, jumping, kissing the dirt, getting the bag up. What a day for all of us, a lot of fun. It's nice to have those days -- especially [with] today's Opening Day and 100 years and all that stuff."
It wasn't pretty. Shoppach, who actually executed a delayed steal, went into a feet-first slide before switching to a headfirst slide that resulted in him plopping down on the bag and sending his helmet flying.
Shoppach waited 464 games to attempt his first steal, which was the active record. But if Shoppach was shocked he got the signal to run, he didn't say so.
"No, I mean, instinctively you know what you can do and can't do -- and [are] supposed to do, and know the signs," Shoppach said. "You just do 'em. Worked out good. I said, 'You know what, my baserunning antics today [are] going to [overshadow] anything I actually did playing.'"
"One of the best slides that I've ever seen in my entire career," Sox outfielder Cody Ross said. "He has the bag. Definitely for me, that was the play of the game. He slid a little early, Willie Mays Hayes-ish, and then proceeded to go forward and smash his head on the bag, it looked like. That's one thing we didn't practice in Spring Training -- one of the only few things. I wouldn't be surprised if we have some sliding practice for Shop sooner or later."
What the hell did you do?
Slightly jealous. I'm planning a trip for July/August now.
I am going to my first game at Fenway in May. Really looking forward to it.
No biggie, gents.
Hopefully you get to see a comeback.
So much for my gut feeling of Buchholz having a "huge" year... (Maybe I was talking about his ERA being huge?)
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to TJ again.
...and our bats got loud. No coincidence, sir.
Aceves with the 1-2-3 inning. We can build on this!
Prince Felix v. Matt Moore tomorrow, 12:35pm central, on TBS.
Jesus $#@!, this is just ridiculous...
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...k_bos&c_id=bos"There was a situation that we were kind of waiting on that now has happened, so now we can move forward," Valentine said. "But there was a complicating situation that an injury complicated, so we decided to wait on this day with the day game and all. Actually, there was a complicated situation in the Minor Leagues that complicated the situation that was making things very complicated after Jacoby complicated it even more -- if you can imagine that. But that was it. We almost solved it about 1:30 last night, but we didn't."
$#@!ing stupid. Even Wash makes more sense than that.
Nice weekend...one more on the holiday, please!
Aceves with another 1-2-3 save! Series win over the Rays... Keep it up & go for the sweep tomorrow, guys.
Patriots Day game is always a great tradition, even if it's at effing 10am central time.
just popping in to see how y'all are enjoying bobbyV
rangers are coming to town. that means at least one game should be 12-10 and involve a 5 run comeback at some point. lets dance, bean boys.
colby vs lester
dutch vs beckett
should be interesting to see these matchups unfold. i like bos in game one and push to dutch in game two. interested to see our lineup in fenway. expecting to see double digits from someone for sure.
He needs to learn that shooting his mouth off is a waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more dangerous with the Boston press and with a veteran team than it was during his time in Texas. I don't think he'll learn that, and I doubt that he lasts the season before his team quits on him.
