those noach look great
those noach look great
i should've clarified.... those are bacon cheese fries. the naoch did not make the picture but they had (i think) jalapeno cheese and sausage.
Well they sure do take a long time. Ive checked out the menus at the other places had a smoke let my dog wander. 10 min plus since they took my order. Hopefully its good.
Atleast 30 minutes now. No line. Wtf. They didnt take my money. Im aboutto give up and eat tai or african.
take off your aggies hat
how have i missed this thread? my food boner just chubbed up. might have to drive down from cedar park to get one.
Finally just got my food.
$#@! you. Seriously it was 45 minutes with no line. I finally got up there after the girl before me got her ordered( She said shes never comming back), I look on the grill, and they are just putting on the guys order behind mine. I asked if the grill was broken. They said the owner had to leave and they didn't want to screw up the orders, so they were cooking one cheese steak at at time. WTF? They gave me free fries, but still.
So, the cheese steak was pretty good, I was pissed at that point, and couldn't enjoy it, but I will give them another shot and hopefully the owner will be there.
You need to train you employees. You probably lost a few customers today.

So they lost a blind guy and probably a fat girl.
No offense to fat girls, they need loving too.
I've eaten here twice and there is not a single cheese steak place in Austin that can touch it. I'll post pics later.
bnb, I think you might have been in line with my brother at the same time.. he was there between 12:30 and 1:00 and after I recommended the place to him, he had same complaint about it taking forever..
Was pretty quick and food was great when I tried it.. hope it was just a one time screwup
Also may want to ping him on where to find good/attractive help. In addition to cooking the hell out of some meat, the man has an eye for talent.
lemme help this guy out by dissecting pic from page 1
1207 S. First
that menu is $#@!in awesome.
Hang in there - you will get $#@! reviews every now and then. I remember one time, I went to the McDonalds drive thru, and it took 30 MINUTES for me to get through because they had some bad people working there. I vowed I would never go back.
And I didn't, but that's not really relevant to your situation because you don't serve dog$#@!. But I digress.
Another visit, another great philly!
Very fast too :)
So....somewhere I should go to when I'm in austin this summer?
I haven't had the time or will power to sit down and write about my experience recently. However, seeing as it's rolling towards 2 am and I can't fall asleep, I figured I'd share my experience.
I believe I went the same day as Whickums, since I also had the fortunate of trying the experimental nacho cheese. I drove down S 1st, not knowing exactly where this place was. Luckily, this joint is located on the corner of a loop like food trailer park and it's red trailer is very easy to spot from the road, despite how fast you are speeding. I pulled in at about 12:30 or so, somewhere around lunch time. As mentioned, the trailer is located on the north end of the trailer park. To the right of the trailer are two park benches, covered by matching red umbrellas. On this particular day only two others seemed to be at Phatso's, enjoying their food and the shade provided by the umbrellas and the over hanging branches of surrounding trees.
I awkwardly walked up and began reading their instructions as the two gentleman in the trailer stared at me. I was pretty phased out from lack of sleep and simply wanted to first and foremost get some lunch, but also try this place out. I ended up going with the onions and provolone, no sides. Someone mentioned on here that the price point was fair, so I was ready to pay $8 or somewhere in that vicinity. Much to my pleasure, the cost was $6.25 or $6.50, I can't remember which. I ended up throwing $2 in the jar since I was expecting $8 when I arrived. I paid with my credit card, which brought about a small conversation with what I can only assume was the owner, white guy, about my last name. The larger, darker gentleman in the back began cooking my order.
I talked a little more with the white guy about nothing in particular, how is business, etc. He asked me two times if I would like to try the nachos they were working on, which I politely declined. He made a batch for me anyways, and of course I ate them on. They were pretty good, but tasted a little funny to me at first. I finally realized my dumb ass taste buds are so $#@!ing up from $#@!ty food, I can't recognize real cheese when I taste it. The nachos contained cheese, ground beef, and jalapenos, I think. I wish there was a little more jalapenos in them and a little less beef, but that's more of a personal taste thing.
I was the only one ordering at the time, and it took about 4 minutes to get my order wrapped and ready to go. Both of the gentleman were cheerful as they wished me on my way. I headed home at this time to continue writing a research paper. I got home and unwrapped my present to find:
Not the best picture, but you get the idea. I forgot to mention that they threw in the little card you see in the picture that has a map of where they are located on the back and what you see on the front. In any case, I demolished that bitch with the force of a thousand tsunamis and wanted more. Reflecting back on it, it was probably a good idea I took it to go as I am fairly sure I would have ended up getting another one if I ate it there.
Since attending games 3, 4, and 5 of the 2009 World Series in Philadelphia, I've been trying to find something that is even respectable here in Austin. Unfortunately, despite numerous recommendations, such quest had left me yearning for that which I could not find. Phatso's appears to be the answer to that calling, as it satiates my appetite for this food. I will say I don't feel it's as good as some of the ones I had in Philadelphia, /hipster, but it's been a few years of off and on $#@!ty cheese steaks in the area, so memory may not be serving me well. Regardless, it is by far the best cheese steak I've tried in Austin thus far, and when I first came back from the World Series, I went on sort of a rampage there for a few months. This place is cheap, the staff seems friendly enough, and damn good.
The only thing I'd say to the owner is that keep it simple. If the food is good and simple, the people will come. Don't expand your menu too much because I feel the quality of the cheese steak and the availability of fries will bring in the audience you are seeking. I'd also recommend wheeling your ass downtown some time at night. I could only imagine the killing you'd make down there on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night. I'm not sure what that may entail, but I know there are quite a few of us that are tried of scarfing down over priced, mediocre pizza and brat wurst. Just saying.
TL;DR: would recommend
Esque loves him some cocaine
bout to hop on the 1M and come down for some lunch
went for lunch today. walter (owner) and his buddy couldn't be nicer guys. food came out fast and delicious. i ordered a beef with onions, wiz & provolone, and mushrooms. it both slammed and went hard. also got a side order of fries (which was a huge portion) with a few sweet potato fries mixed in. both types of fries were hot, crisp, and awesome.
here are some pics of bouldin creek food park where phatsos is located. as you can see in the third picture, it's almost directly across S 1st from El Mercado.

Another positive from this poster. Had it earlier this week and it's great. I just took a job 2 miles away, so I'll be back many times.
