    Just for comparison,

Here's Shareef Abdur Rahim's second NBA season and Blake's 2nd

    Blake

Winning just a football game at Ole Miss is worth mention.

Tannehill only finished 4 games all season with an above average QB rating, against the following defensive juggernauts: SMU, Idaho, Baylor, and Kansas. Out of the 115 QBs with enough attempts to qualify, he finished 56th in passing efficiency.

He literally wasn't even an above average college player. And he choked hideously in all their big games against athletic defenses. Completed 40% of his passes and had 3 picks against Texas. Completed 50% of his passes with 3 picks against OU. 3 second half interceptions against OSU to blow that game.

At least when Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell busted they had the excuse of being druggies and douchebags extraordinaire. Five years from now people are going to look back on the Tannehill pick and just assume it was some ironic hipster gesture. "Of course they didn't think he would actually be any good, that was the whole point! Teams that draft good players are lame and conformist."

Hell, If Tony Romo can be the starting qb for the Cowboys, Tannehill has a chance.

Yeah, I was saying winning at a program as dip$#@!-y (my lingual skills are being stupid today) as Ole Miss is an obvious sign of not being "average-$#@!ty"

Depends on your definition of bust. Assuming its the one you first gave (true bust a-la Ryan Leaf and not the not living up to his potential style bust).

For the second, see someone like Steve Francis, dude was a top 15 guy for a few years then poof, he vanished.

To be honest, I see Blake's ceiling as maybe a Chris Webber type player circa 2000 or 1999, and his floor as Shareef or somebody similar as I mentioned before. I don't think he can attain the Duncan/KG/Shaq levels (best big men since Jordan), and I'm not convinced he can even be Dwight Howard level.

In 10 years the best big man in the NBA will be Anthony Davis. At worst, he'll be a Tyson Chandler type with a decent mid range shot. At best you've got a Kevin Garnett-CWebb hybrid.

I agree about Blake Griffin. His ENTIRE game is based on athleticism. If he does not develop a consistent 10-15 foot jumper he will end his career as a nobody when that athleticism wanes. One knee injury and he's done.

Eh I don't know about that. LeBron has had a "successful" career built around elite athleticism and good passing. Guys like that just show that you don't necessarily need elite basketball skills to have great production in today's NBA. That's what separates the great's from the 80's and 90's from the greats today. Guys like Magic, Jordan, Malone, and Hakeem were elite athletes, but their athleticism was more or less a bonus that enhanced their basketball skills. Guys like LeBron and Blake build their games almost exclusively around their athleticism with some actual basketball skills sprinkled in.

Not really.....Lebron can actually shoot the ball at a decent percentage, and when he gets hot from outside he's unstoppable. He has ball skills. Blake has no discernable skill outside of jumping that I've seen. Just a decent mid range shot, and he'd be the next Karl Malone.....because there's no way you could guard him. That's the problem with trying to defend Lebron, or guys like Dirk......they can kill you from anywhere on the floor. Griffin? Not so much.....keep him out of the paint and he's a non-factor

Why do people keep acting like BG cant develop a reliable jumper? Jason Kidd was one of the worst shooting guards in the league for YEARS, ans is now, what, 3rd on the all time 3 point list behind behind reggie Miller and Ray Allen? You guys DO realize that Blake A)Already averages a double double, B)is what, like 22-23 years old, and C)still has time to improve? Right? Y'all are aware of this, yes?

Oh, and the point that is being lost here, is that the original debate was not "is Blake Griffin overrated", it was Rocko saying that BG was a "borderline bust." So now we've had 7 other people argue over whether or not he's overrated, when even if he is it's irrelevant because A) he's one of the top 5 PFs in the NBA, and B) thats not the subject to begin with.

LeBron is an average shooter at best. Don't be fooled by his 3 point numbers. I'm sure most NBA players could hit at least 35% of their 3s if over half of their attempts are wide open looks. This myth that Griffin can't score outside of dunks is just that, a myth. 2 points at the rim is the same 2 points as a 19 foot jump shot. 20 points a game is 20 points a game. Just for the record, LeBron is shooting a whopping 4% better from 16 feet to the 3 point line than Griffin is. One is a small forward in his 9th year in the league and the other is a power forward in his second season who supposedly has no skills. BTW, there are only 3 players averaging 20 and 10 in the NBA this year: Dwight, Kevin Love, and Blake Griffin.

I agree. It's weird that a player with his talent in the second largest market in the US can go practically unnoticed when he is arguably the best position player in the game. If he were a Yankee or Met, ESPN would $#@! their pants every night about him.

C-Webb was an MVP candidate and leader of a team that would have won a championship if not for the biggest Stern screw job of all time. Even in the two years you cited he was a phenom with unbelievable athleticism coupled with sublime post skills and silky passing ability. He was the second best passing big man of his era, behind only Vlade, and he had that skill going back to college if not high school. What leads you to believe Griffin will become even as talented as the blossoming Webber of 2000?

Well Blake is half ginger so that means he has some soul stealing powers. If he ever gets around Chris Webber alone, he could just steal his past passing skills. There's a reason why no one will interview Blake one on one alone.

So who you guys got winning the Stanley Cup? To me it's a three way race between the Raptors, Real Madrid, and the Jamaican Bobsled team.

    @KB

The frame of reference was that C-Webb at his peak was never as good as Duncan or Garnett or Shaq, just like I don't think that Griffin'll ever surpass Howard, Bynum or Love, though none of the latter three have yet achieved the Duncan/Garnett level

TV was on ESpin at lunch: "Is Tannehill the Most Overrated player in the draft?"

He throws some pretty epic interceptions. It would be interesting for him to explain what he was thinking in each of them. The first one is a pretty good play by the DB, but the second two are freaking awful.

Did McShay not watch A&M play in 2011? NFL defenses are going to be a lot better than our defense was last year.

  46. #146
Tannehill's stats the last two years against defenses with a pulse:

    2010
    Oklahoma (W) - 19/32 225 yds 2 TD 2 INT
    Nebraska (W) - 19/29 172 yds 0 TD 0 INT
    Texas (W) - 14/30 128 yds 1 TD 0 INT
    LSU (L) - 22/35 204 yds 2 TD 3 INT

    2011
    Oklahoma State (L) - 28/47 309 yards 2 TD 3 INT
    Arkansas (L) - 25/35 247 0 TD 1 INT
    Oklahoma (L) - 32/64 379 yds 2 TD 3 INT
    Kansas State (L) - 27/46 210 yds 3 TD 1 INT
    Texas (L) - 20/49 224 yds 2 TD 3 INT

Basically, if you want him to throw for over 200 yards you better expect 2 or more INTs. Also, he has four 3 INT games in a season and a half. For a guy who is "raw and just needs experience," he sure as hell didn't look any better towards the end of his senior season.

What the hell is everyone thinking?

No, he didn't. He just jerks off to workout videos with no defense and body measurements.

that half his picks this year were when jeff fuller would randomly fall down?

seriously, why is this being debated? it's a quarterback league, there's a lot of $#@!ty play at the position, and the guy is smart and has a good arm - someone like him rises every single year, and its only going to continue as the nfl turns more and more into a 7 on 7 setup.

Because people have him being a top 10 pick based on 1 good year? That wasn't last year?
