1) massively scale back the military head count
2) get the gov out of the pension biz
3) stop buying healthcare for old people who can afford to buy coverage

I am a child of the early boomers. I grew up with the belief that your generation took part in something special. The reality is that your defining moment, the subject of so many worthless movies saying how special you are, was nothing more than a bunch of selfish children hiding from responsibility. A lot of nice generalizations there, but here is the bottom line: my generation is composed of tens of millions of people. Yes, there were a lot of people who ducked their responsibilities from my generation. But by the same token there are millions who did not. Likewise, millions of people from younger generations duck their responsibilities. So do not lump me into the not taking responsibility crowd jack. Everything the government has ever required that I do I have done. Not only that, if I told you what I pay in $#@!ing taxes at all levels it would make you head explode. Do the math ... combine income taxes, employment taxes, property taxes and sales taxes and you will find that the top income earners are paying 50%+ of what they make to the $#@!ing state, local and federal governments unless they can find a way to shelter the income. I think of what I have paid government over the past 37 years since I started working at age 15 and its truly mind-blowing.

Do you have any idea how wasteful and inefficient that is? There are for example more than 100 federal job training programs. Why does the government spend money on dumb things? Take certain Social Security Disability claims as another example... why make up a rule that says a person limited to "light" work who has less than a H.S. education and previously had to work at a level higher than light and has no transferable skills is per se entitled to disability benefits beginning at age 55? That rule makes no sense! Do you have any idea how many nonsensical rules there are in the government, where it likewise blows billions of dollars? Here is one for you: why do we give foreign aid to China? The country that loans us more than a trillion, and we give them aid! Here is another: why give people tax refunds under the EIC when they haven't paid any income taxes? That makes no sense either.

Don't talk to me about my generation $#@!ing things up....instead talk about how certain people in my generation have $#@!ed it up. This is an important distinction, as there are a lot of folks from my generation who have been pulling this wagon and millions who contribute nothing and are happy to just sit in that wagon and let us pull them along. So attempts at misdirecting the conversation to individual government waste programs that you do not agree with only weakens your position (Do you really think that everyone agrees with it all? The fallacy of your thinking is that you assume that all baby boomers wanted an entitlement society. Many did not and saw it for what it was - demographically unsustainable. Unfortunately, most of you haven't learned a $#@!ing thing from all of this and are doubling down on stupid wanting more government programs and control of the economy. You really think that will make things better.

While I am a HUGE fan of calypso lesbian poetry... This is one of our modern myths. There are a LOT of folks who have what used to be marketable degrees in legit majors who are unemployed or way underemployed. Couple that with skyrocketing tuition, and you have a disaster. Before, you took out loans that can probably be paid off in 10 years or less.

Now, the loans have to be bigger to cover tuition that has vastly outpaced inflation - think 15-20 years to pay off. Add to that that your starting pay is lower than anyone originally expected it would be. Now, you're looking at 25 years to pay off your loans. When you are in a position that you can't even START to get ahead till your late 40s...that's a large pile of $#@!.

I was lucky and was pretty much ahead of that curve, and got scholarships to boot. But for folks a mere 10-15 years behind me, they're in a world of $#@!.

The answer is you don't get to choose. I asked that question my entire life. Why confiscate my money and give it to welfare bums and cheats? Why not my kids? But I didn't get a choice.

Edit: personally, I agree with the sentiment. Social security is a wealth transfer from the poorer young to the richer old. But you know what, you youngsters continually vote for the Democrats who are on record as saying that Social Security is fully funded. No problem.

Ask a boomer who is to blame, and they'll surely tell you. Just as surely, they'll point at someone else. They only want what they have coming to them, their fair share.

Your fair share was earned on the backs of your parents and the heads of your children and their children. The American dream used to be that your children had more opportunity than you.

This isn't some red herring about socialism or free market or taxes. This is about stealing from your children and grandchildren and destroying the great country your parents built. You earned your wealth by stealing from your children and my children. You earned and stole your wealth by counterfeiting money, making mine worthless.

"But someone else stole more than I did!" You're all criminals. Your generation gave us nothing but anger, selfishness, self importance, and greed. Even the good men women of the generation have failed. You stole, but you gave some it it back, so that somehow makes it ok. It isn't about about someone trying to shortchange you from your stolen, counterfeit wealth. I'm a part of that generation and I've stolen from no one. I do not get jack $#@! from the government other than general benefits, such as the protection our military gives all of us and roads built with federal taxes, that sort of thing. You are damn right I will have earned my retirement given the hundreds of thousands of dollars I have paid towards my social security and medicare over my lifetime. Also, I did not give your children's money to poor people. A bunch of politicians did that in order keep themselves in power.

For me to get my "fair share" would require me to recoup something I am planning to lose because IT IS ALREADY LOST.

I hope that those who care about the future of this country would be able to understand that if they don't give this one up, we will lose it anyway. But it has to be Generation X. It has to be us- as the smallest demographic group of the three most impacted (boomers, us, and Y), we have a unique window of opportunity to take this one on the chin, because a clear majority will be glad to vote to $#@! us over- the boomers won't lose anything and the Y'ers will benefit from lower taxes and a robust future surplus.

We can be heroes and vanquish the dragon, or we can be the children of cowards, who bested our parents in selfishness.
