Thread: Moyer

    Moyer

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/spring2012/st...rting-rotation

Rockies host the Nationals the last week of June. Chances of Moyer still in the starting rotation then? Chances of Bryce Harper in the Nats lineup by then?

Moyer: 49 vs. Harper: 19. I'd tune in to see that.

Just saw that headline. My hats off to the man. I don't know how it works in Texas with elementary school and junior high. But growing up in Chicago, you went from elementary school to junior high between your 5th and 6th grade years. There are a couple of guys still playing from when I was in junior high (namely, Vizquel). But only one guy from when I was in elementary school still-1986. And that is Jamie Moyer. It's insane to me that the guy I watched play for the Cubs, the guy I brought in for relief in RBI Baseball on Nintendo is going to take the mound one more season at age 49. I think that's freakin' awesome. To be 50 years old and to know that you spent the MAJORITY of your life as a major league baseball pitcher (and a pretty damn good one, HR's allowed aside). What a tale to tell...

You're right, my bad. I was thinking of Micro League baseball I guess. I dunno, some$#@! from my childhood. I watched that scrub as a youth and wondered how the $#@! he made a roster, let me have my moment man-he's here 25 years later laughing at us...

I only said that because my brothers and I played RBI endlessly and actually kept track of the last vestiges of the game. Clemens, Jesse Orosco, and Julio Franco were the longest holdouts.

His rookie year, Jamie Moyer was teammates with Davey Lopes (traded to the Astros later that year) and Ron Cey.

that's a fun game. Mike Morgan would be the baseball equivalent of Rod Steiger.

Question is what franchise would be the equivalent of the film 'True Romance'?

My guess would be either KC or Seattle. Each has had it's turn sending young talent that blossomed later to other teams.

seattle franchise isn't old enough to reach back too far into the past, and before free agency players didn't move as often.

jamie moyer signed a promo rangers hat for me back in probably 1989...he was part of the palmeiro trade, right? didn't even want it. the guy was a nobody but he was signing at the rail at arlington stadium and my grandmother literally forced me to go get the hat signed.

So who will be the next link in the chain that will be around for the next 20 years. I'm having trouble coming up with any really good young guys on the Phillies when he was there or on the Rockies. Tulo will be around awhile but he's already what, 27?
