Ran Over A Dog This Morning

Had the unfortunate experience of running over a dog this morning. Didn't see him until he was almost under my rig, and heard him collide with the undercarriage and/or tire. Felt bad, but the little bastard ran right out in front of me.

It was a pretty busy road, so I kept on trucking. What's the protocol on this? Should I have stopped? By the sound under my truck, there is no way it survived, and seeing the mangled critter would not have sucked.

The car behind him probably hit him too. By the time I would have gotten back to him, probably 10 other cars had hit him. He would have been hamburger meat by the time I got back to him.

I will say that I am not even 100% certain it was a dog. It may have been a cat. I know it was not a tlaquache or another nasty vermin.

Seriously though, worst dog hit I've ever seen was on 71 in between Smithville and Bastrop. There was this husky-like dog on the right side of the road, and the car next to me hit it, and I swear the dog flew through the air, passed my car at about 65, and hit a speed limit signpole. By the time I figured out what the hell just happened I was a good half mile past the scene, so I didn't stop.

As fast as it darted out, it might have been too fast to be canine. I drove past the crime scene during lunch, and there were no body parts, or other sign of a corpse. I guess I'll never know for sure. If it was a dog, and not a stray one, it's the owners fault for not chaining it up.

You're gonna stop on a busy highway to see if the dog is okay??? really? If you hit him with a car he's dead, especially if 20 other cares run over him as well. Sad but true.

My uncle ran over a dog one time in Morgan, Tx. I was with my uncle, the dog was a little chihuahua, I looked behind the truck and there he was one his back with all four legs up and spinning, not my uncle the chihuahua. But my uncle died of cancer, and not fake cancer, real cancer.

Give me a $#@!ing break. I hit the beast with a $#@!ing Chevy Tahoe. I doubt his resiliency was enough to survive that. Yeah, I could have stopped and prevented others from also hitting the bloody corpse, but what $#@!ing good would that have done? I needed to get to work anyway.

Depends on how fast you were going. At highway speeds I doubt I would stop for a dog that ran out in front of me unless there was not traffic. Chances of the dog surviving are not good, and even chances of it suffering long aren't very good. And I'm a huge dog lover. I have two awesome dogs. But there is no way I'm gonna put an actual humans life in danger to check up on a dog that is probably already dead on a crowded highway. And yeah, it would haunt mentor a long while. Now, if someone here can offer some evidence that a dog hit at actual highway speeds stands a decent chance then I am very willing to change my mind. But it still depends on how crowded the highway is. I would hate to cause the death of someone's child because I slammed on my brakes after hitting a dog on a busy highway. Now a cat or some other worthless critter, circle back to take pics.

I don't know if I posted this here before or not but I accidentally caused a dog to get run over/hit by a $#@!ty late 70's/early 80's suburban while I was running and it was the worst feeling ever. That $#@! didn't stop, either. Dog just decided it wanted to cross the street and bark at the jogger....I even saw it coming and tried to jump in the road and wave at the Suburban to stop but drunk redneck hillbilly $#@! was probably playing with his $#@! and didn't see me - almost hit me, too. I jumped out of the way just in time....Fido wasn't so lucky. The owner came up and scooped up his little dog and just couldn't believe it. I kept asking him what I could do to help and he couldn't even respond. It was $#@!ing awful.

So yeah, bottom line, you are an $#@! if this story is true.

And what the $#@! am I supposed to do when I get back to the dead dog? Scrape it off the asphalt, and walk door to door to the nearest houses with it until I find it's owner? Or, should I have taken to a beautiful field, recite some scripture, and bury it?
