Mike and Mike (ESPN Radio) are going HAM on Bo Ryan.............

................right now for restricting a freshman whom wants to transfer and he called in. About time someone called out this hypocrisy from the NCAA. This is somewhat relevant to us considering Tulsa is restricting Jordan Clarkson from transferring to us right now (Danny Manning trying to help out Bill Self and his old school).

They are calling out college sports on one TINY aspect of its conflict between the business side and having "student athletes."

The problem is much bigger than freaking transfer rules, especially when college basketball, of all sports, has the biggest problem of all with regard to commitment to the players staying 4-5 years and getting a degree.

The NCAA makes Congress sound reasonable some times.( no cloakroom, just the first entity that came to mind with similar questions around functional effectiveness)

Luckily for us Jordan's parents plan to pay for their son to attend UT next year so the transfer restriction won't affect him. However, good luck to Tulsa ever getting a recruit out of San Antonio again. They're getting blasted on the airwaves right now. Looks like media all over the country is finally reporting on this bull$#@!.

I admittedly didn't hear the entire convo before I posted the link. Bo Ryan actually had a decent argument initially (with the blocking of potential competitors and the kid not talking to him), but he fell off a cliff when he started going down the road of "everyone does this why don't you pick on them" line of reasoning. The tail end of his argument is what sparked this thread.

I can understand not letting a kid transfer to another conference school. It could hurt you down the road and it encourages coaches to try to poach from other conference schools. Why does Bo Ryan not want the player to transfer to the ACC, though? There's no reason for that. Danny Manning also couldn't have picked a worse time to decide to be a turd to Clarkson. Real smart giving the media another story on this topic. I'm sure no one remembers that you played and coached at Kansas, Danny.

Said it as such before I listened to the M&M segment....after listening to that interview, my opinion of the guy has only been strengthened.

Probably shouldn't let him transfer to a D1 school then. There's a chance you might have to play against him in the tournament. What a $#@!.

I'd be embarrassed as $#@! if this was Barnes. Wisconsin fans didn't have any trouble accepting Russel Wilson's transfer

Going forward, there should be 2 clauses in every collegiate coaches contract.

    1. If you want to leave and go to another school, you have to sit out a year.
    2. If you wish to go to another school, in addition to sitting out a year, it must be a school approved by your current AD. The AD is free to reject any and every school they view as "competition".

Wisconsin has caved and is lifting all the non Big10 transfer restrictions. Time to swing all the national focus to Tulsa.

The last time I heard from Tulsa...http://www.nytimes.com/1991/09/22/sp...ard-score.html

    COLLEGE FOOTBALL: WEST/SOUTHWEST; Texas A&M Falls, 35-34, To Tulsa's 63-Yard Score
    AP
    Published: September 22, 1991

    T. J. Rubley passed on a 63-yard touchdown play to Chris Penn with 2 minutes 47 seconds left, and the big-play running of Chris Hughley carried Tulsa to a stunning 35-34 victory over Texas A&M today.

Billy Cole recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Hughley, who rushed for 231 yards, got Tulsa (3-1) a first down on a 4-yard run with a minute to go that allowed the Golden Hurricane to run out the clock.

Jeff Granger threw for four touchdowns for the Aggies (1-1), but in the second half he threw two interceptions and fumbled a snap for an 11-yard loss on a third-and-one play.

Clarkson, Tulsa reach agreement on player's release

Tulsa athletic director Ross Parmley met with Jordan Clarkson’s family Thursday afternoon and both parties have reached an agreement concerning the player’s future.

Clarkson has obtained a full release to all but a limited number of schools. But it's not known if the all-conference guard will be released to five schools — Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Missouri and Arizona — that were on the original “banned” list by TU.

“The Clarkson family appreciates the opportunity to sit down with athletic director Ross Parmley and come to an agreement that is suitable to both parties so that we can move forward in a positive manner, and one in which both parties maintain credibility and a reputation,” Jordan’s father, Mike Clarkson, said. “Jordan really appreciates The University of Tulsa and the Tulsa community for their support of him and the Golden Hurricane during his two years at TU.”

“We wish nothing but the best for Jordan and his family as Jordan continues his bright career at another school,” Parmley said. “I am happy that the two sides could come to an agreement that is suitable for both parties.”

The Clarkson family said in an e-mail to the Tulsa World on March 12 that the player would “explore all options, which would include the possibility of transferring," one day following Doug Wojcik’s firing.

On April 17, Clarkson was given permission by Parmley to contact three schools on a preferred list of eight schools given by the family. Last Friday, the list grew after Parmley met with Clarkson as some schools requested permission to speak with the guard.
