An Austin police officer shot and killed an
aggressive pit bull terrier mix Monday night, police said.
Lt. Randy Pogue said police received a call about two aggressive dogs roaming the neighborhood in the 1900 block of Canterbury Street in East Austin shortly before 7 p.m. and two officers responded to the scene.
“One dog came aggressively at one of the officers, and
the officer swung his flashlight. The dog came at him again and
the officer sprayed him with Mace. When the dog came at the officer a third time,
the officer shot once and killed the dog. The dog owner came back and took control of the other dog,” Pogue said.
Pogue did not have the name of the officer who discharged his gun, and that he was not injured.
Pogue said he was not aware if the dog owner was charged.
