    Titleist AP2 series irons

I made the mistake of hitting one of the AP2 712 6 irons while getting a couple of clubs re-gripped today. It felt awesome. Now I'm considering buying these to replace my perfectly good set of Ping I3, blue dot Osize.

My handicap right now is probably about a 12-15. I know that the AP1 irons are a lot more forgiving.

Any opinions about these? Anyone played with them or know anyone that has?

    TIA

hit the ap1 before buying ap2's

id go through the full titleist fitting also, from a titleist rep on a full practice range. dont settle for stock shaft, that's the most important part of the club

Putt, I grew up playing Mizuno blades. I know I can hit the AP2s. My handicap is as high as it is primarily due to a complete lack of course management (that is, I hit my driver like Ruprick the monkey boy about 1/2 the time).

I'm definitely going to look into a "fitting". I've never had that done.

If you go in for a fitting, how long until you have your clubs? Same day? A few days? A few weeks?

Looking at going to that Jim Mclean center in Ft. Worth tomorrow.

I'm in the same boat. I've got my Mizuno Mp-33 blades that I bought my freshman year of high school 10 years ago. I hit the ball straighter than I used to, and don't need all the workability of blades anymore. I'd much prefer the forgiveness of a cavity back these days. I'm head over heels in love with the Nike VR-Pro series, and will probably buy some here soon.

Callaway Razr, 10.5 degree with an "S Flex" shaft. I finally upgraded from my old Warbird, 10 degree. I'll look at those Fubukis. Thanks, Putt.

I really like the ping G20 and the white headed taylor made burner

my burner has the fubuki ($50 dollar taylor made upgrade, holla) and I'm ordering a G20 soon with a fubuki (probably 3 wood too)

it's all about the shaft and most stock shafts are total $#@!. simply there to help you get the ball up

Get the Rocketballz 3 wood. Longest and best 3 wood I have ever hit.

I'm about to take my 5wood and 3 wood out of my bag and replace them with 1iron and 56 degree wedge. I can't consistently hit my driver or 3 wood straight, so I'll use 1 iron or 3 iron to tee off on tight fairways. I like having 48, 52, 56 and 60 degree wedges.

I'm hitting the titleist ap1 irons right now. Great clubs. Once I get my swing back, I plan to take a look at the ap2 irons. I just started playing again after a 7 year hiatus.

I've played Mizuno blades, Titleist DCI oversize, Hogan Apex Edge, Ping I3 and now I really want to go back to Titleist. The Hogans were like butter, but they had no distance. I loved the DCIs, but was prejudiced against them because I bought them used at Canton first Monday. I wanted a used set of Ping I2 when I bought the I3 set new because I couldn't find a black or blue dot set of used I2 and was too impatient to wait.

YMMV, but I had the "white topped TM Burner" (Burner Superfast 2.0) and it was $#@!. I couldn't control it, lost about 20 yds of distance and traded it in right away for an R11 - which is supposedly harder to hit. I find it much easier - hitting it dead ass straight again and back over 300 yds. I would really hit the SF2.0 a LOT before you consider buying - the pro I talked to said very few people can hit it, and was the case for me.

Driver is just okay, like the r11s more, the 3 wood is amazing.
edit to above: Dad had a similar problem with the RBZ driver coming from a superfast 1.0. I can't hit the RBZ driver either, but pound my R11, so again YMMV.

Just bought the R11S last week. Love it. RBZ 3 Wood is next, just need to try out the 14.5, the 15 tour and the 17 High Launch side by side to figure out which one I want.

I also spent about an hour hitting CBs and AP1s. I've come to the realization that I need a lesson and some hours at the driving range before I even consider buying AP1s, AP2s or CBs.

I bought a set or the Razr X irons last year after my best round of golf EVAR with some loaners in Vegas. Love them and hit them almost as well today as that lightning in a bottle round a year ago.

The "look", I care about a little (because if I look down at them and feel confident, I play better). The "name", I don't give 2 $#@!s about. I'd play with Titleist "Bloody Vaginas" if I liked the look and hit them well.

6handicapper, been hitting my irons so poorly as of late. Haven't taken a lesson in about 13 years, finally broke down and got one this morning.

Changed my preswing setup and weight distribution, and woW! Absolutely striped about 15 4-irons in a row, just a beautiful launch angle and flight path. Renewed faith in the Mizuno blades.

Good point on the look. I don't care if they are ugly, but I do not want to look down and wonder how in the hell am I going to hit a ball with that thing.

what did you change with your weight distribution? I've recently gone to more weight on my left side at address (I'm right handed) and my ball-striking has improved vastly. I heard Tiger's coach was a big advocate of more weight forward at address, which is why I gave it a shot.

Zing 2's were not that great IMO. The berrylium Ping Eye 2's on the other hand were probably the best perimeter weighted irons ever made. Along with the Norman grind King Cobra's. Game changers.

Speaking of... I'm getting my S56 irons from Ping in a week or so. Can't freaking wait. First non-blade I've bought in 12 years.

Growing up playing in New England, I always hit the ball really, really low to keep it out of the wind, and with that came a solid draw. My problem was that my misses were trap hooks that went whereverthefucktheywanted...

Placing more emphasis on preloading the backswing by devoting weight to my right side has helped get the ball in the air more, and take some off of the draw.

Picked up the driver today. The shaft is the Fubuki 63 x5ct s-flex. I don't know what any of that means, but it has ninja stars and $#@! on it so it must be badass. The dude at the store told me that this shaft new ran ~$300. I had no idea what they were even going to charge me for it, but it was <$70 total (that included installation). I hit it one time in my Croc flip flops in the computer hitting area, didn't warm up, gave it a 75-80% swing and it went dead straight 280 yds.

    Back to the irons:

I thought about those damn CB clubs all night long. Kyle at the Edwin Watts in North Dallas was letting me hit a 6 iron only off those $#@!ed up artificial turf mats. When I was picking up my driver at the Edwin Watts on Lover's/Inwood, I saw that they had a set of Ping S57s on sale for $599. I really liked the look of them. Long story short, I went back to the EW in North Dallas, asked them to tape up a Titleist CB 710 7 iron (I have mental problems with 6 irons and when hitting off of those mats sometimes) and I hit 10 dead solid perfect high draws in a row. I bought them. They were marked down from $899 to $600. I really wanted the Titleist AP2 712s, but couldn't justify spending twice as much for them.

Nice 244335. Those are some sweet clubs. I'm hitting about three year old MP-57s and love them. Not ready to switch yet.

You've inspired me to dig out of storage my old copper eye 2's. Turns out, storage didn't treat them so well (or the movers didn't) and a couple clubs are cracked at the hozel. I know Ping won't touch the toxic stuff anymore, but is there anyone who will these days? Wouldnt mind playing them again for nostalgia.

I just bought a Cleveland Black "Tour" driver. it's slighly different from the game-improvement Black driver in that the face is set slightly more open and the hozel is a little longer. Cleveland makes some amazing drivers.
