Collection Agency seems like a scam...shaggy investigators thoughts?

I received a letter from a group called CRB - aka Collection and Recovery Bureau that claims that there was a chargeback transaction to "Tree of life sales" that was deterimned to be unwarranted. They want me to pay $40.50.
The guy who signed the letter"Paul Snyder" seems like a fake name and that they use a host of other fake names. Mrs Cline, Joy Martin etc from googling this company. I guess my question is has anyone on there heard of this group or have suggestions? I cant find a charge from tree of life, the only thing I can think of is I had a box show up with some diet HCG crap about a year ago that I did not order and had them reverse the charge. Can these people actually hit your credit report?

If something has already hit the collection agency then odds are it's already dinged your credit score. Use one of your free annual credit reports to confirm any pending charges.

This, and follow up a lot. If they screwed up and sent it to collections by accident you will need to ride their ass to make sure it gets taken care of. Once it gets to a collections company they don't really give a $#@! where it came from or if it is an actual claim they just want your money and the bull$#@! fee they add on.

Whatever you don't just forget about it and hope it goes away and don't just pay it to make it go away that is admitting that you were at fault.

I don't know the answer to your question, but why do you think these are fake names? It's not like its signed by Buck Naked or I. P. Freely.

Possibly not your situation, but sometimes those guys collect on the debt, but keep it.

I had a client that owed me $2,500.00 (declared bankruptcy shortly after we did the work), my collection agency got a grand of it and took off, then had to get another "real" collection agency to get my grand-of course by this time doors were closed, class action lawsuits were pending, owner left country as did the money. A comedy of errors and a-holes.

In order to collect, they owe you a $#@!-ton of information. It sounds tempting to pay $40 and get these guys off your back, but DO NOT do it because you'll likely be opening up a can of worms. If you don't owe money, fight it and threaten them back.

Tree of Life sells natural & organic foods, so you are probably right in assuming that HCG supplement had something to do with it. They are owned by KeHe Distributors, which has a distro center at 4024 Rock Quarry Road in Dallas. You should probably burn it down.

Turns out it was the charge from the HCG diet drops and after talking to them they agreed it was a fradulent order (info on order came from hawaii) and said I didnt owe any money and they were not trying to collect a chargeback fee. I got them to send me that in writing and forwarded to the CRB. I talked to them and they said if I provided that info that they would drop it. I have not heard back since I sent the info but I am hoping that clears my name...from reading other stories about this group, sounds like I got off pretty easy.
