You know, after all the painful moments in this season so far (injuries, suspensions, losses), being ranked in the Top 25 is pretty impressive.

Not our standard, for sure. But this is one of the worst performing Texas teams in recent history ... and we're still ranked.

Feel free to pile on, I just felt like doing some sunshine pumping on this cloudy Tuesday morning.

Not sunshine pumping, that is stating undeniable facts.

On the top of the list of impressive feats goes to Skip Johnson, to lose 3 pitchers to injury while relying on 4 true freshman to carry a huge burden of innings and have a 3.20 ERA at this point is why Skip is the best in the country.

I also found an interesting stat, Erich Weiss is currently hitting .340, if he finishes the year at above .340 he will be the first Longhorn to have back to back .340 plus seasons since Dustin Majewski in 2002-2003 (Stubbs, Kainer, Russell, Johnston, Belt, Wheeless...none of them did that)....pretty impressive.

Also Hawk getting the start tonight....good to see him back.

    Semi-random question.

Just curious, I can't remember off the top of my head, but has Skip Johnson been in the mix for any heading coaching positions?

Not any that have been made public to my knowledge.

Although I heard he was considered for the U of H job when Whitting was hired, not sure if he interviewed though.

Interesting. I would think his name would be thrown around with every major job opening. Dude has an unbelievable track record. It is one thing to get talented arms on campus...it is an entirely different thing to develop them and teach them how to pitch. Like you said, Skip has proven he is the best in the business.

There hasn't been that many high profile jobs available recently.

Tennessee had their first (and only) choice

Fullerton of course wanted one of thier own to replace Serrano.

the Southern Cal job was never really open because they promoted the interim, and Nebraska apparently had no interest in even searching for a coach and promoted within.

Not to say that Skip would've been a sure fire candidate for any of those jobs, but as we know there is less turnover in general for college baseball coaches...Skip seems pretty happy here and I'm not sure he would be interested in running a lower "tier" program as opposed to sticking where he is....and who knows what it might eventually lead too??

True. The only other job that came to my mind was Mississippi State after Polk left (the 2nd time).

Yeah well, I think even as much as Tommy loves the University I have to think even he would admit that succeeding Coach Garrido with a guy who isn't too far off from retiring himself is not the best thing for the program long term.

Interesting stat.... 25% of the runs scored on our team this year have been unearned.

Yep very interesting, errors have been a killer, surprisingly Baylor is at close to 20% with that number, the Big 12 average is around 17%. But Texas is still 3rd in overall runs allowed and 3rd in ER allowed. The pitchers at least have been holding up their end...defense and consistent run producing have been the problem.

This is a weird season. Texas is 3rd in conference in ERA, BA and fldg%.
