Honestly, if any of these guys are to be his go-to receivers, I hope he signs with a different team. It's not that I don't trust that VY can bring out the best in any pro WR, it's just that I literally have not heard one of these names before. $#@! $#@!ty NFL WRs, even the best ones suck. $#@!ing Deasean Jackson. I swear, if Jackson doesn't drop 2-3 perfectly thrown deep balls by VY, we would have seen a QB controversy.

Stevie Johnson is the Bills #1. Nelson had 61 catches for 658 yards and 5 TDs last year.

I have no idea how that team fares with drops, though.

Stevie Johnson has had 1,000+ receiving yards each of the last 2 season.

    1. You don't keep up with the NFL, I take it.
    2. There was not going to be a QB controversy in PHI. Put the pipe down.

Also have two RBs that can catch the ball and Scott Chandler is a decent TE and only 26......No one is going to confuse this team with Green Bay but they have decent options if Johnson is healthy (just had surgery).....

So I forgot Stevie Johnson. As for my attention to the NFL, it only goes as far as keeping an eye out for Horns and watching ESPN on a pretty constant basis throughout the season, so I don't see any reason why I would have known David Nelson's name. But I guess 60ish catches and 5 TDs means he is pretty solid. So you guys are saying Johnson + Nelson is a good WR core for VY to work with or what? I still think it sounds pretty weak. VY needs a tight end, who is Buffalo's?

Desean was a $#@! swabble for Vick last year too. Basically didnt try cus the Eagles didnt give him a long term deal. And Hoosier is correct, VY had ZERO shot of a QB controversy. Did you watch his games with the Eagles? Desean Didnt drop his multiple picks vs the seahawks, VY threw them...

Nelson isn't fast, but has reliable hands and is a good route runner. He blocks his ass off too, which would be good for VY if he decides to get mobile.

    Couple of items to mention:

    Kholes Entertainment ‏ @DJKholes

Just saw and spoke to Vince Young in the Buffalo airport. I asked him how it went and he said very well!
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/78...-shape-workout

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills receiver David Nelson describes free agent quarterback Vince Young as looking in great shape during his workout for the team.

What's unclear is what the Bills think about Young and whether he fits in their plans. The Bills and the player's representatives provided no update after Young met with coaches and held an on-field workout at the team's facility Wednesday.

Nelson was one of four Bills receivers to run routes and catch passes during Young's session. He said the sixth-year NFL player "looked good," and it was evident he's been working hard this offseason to stay in shape.

The visit was Young's first this offseason in a bid to find a new team. Young was not re-signed by the Philadelphia Eagles after completing a one-year contract.

  11. #161
    From a Bills board, FWIW:

Heard the visit went excellent. He apparently was very humble and got along with everyone right away. My source says no way he leaves Buffalo unless his demands are high. Apparently looked to be in decent shape too...

So, Stevie is the go to guy. He's great, always find ways to get open, even against Revis.
David Nelson is the slot guy. He's the nuber 2 reciver but play always on the slot. Not very fast but good hands and solid red zone threat.
The number two receiver, who in the reality will be the 3rd option behind Nelson, maybe can be the guy we drafted this year in the 3rd round. TJ Graham from NC State. He's a speedster and was drafted to be a deep threat. He will compete against Marcus Easley, a guy we drafted 2 years ago in the 4th round, but was injured in his first year and had heart problems missing last year two. The fan base is high on him based on solid games in pre seasons and his physical skills. The other guy competing will be last year starter Donald Jones, who not played well, got injured, and looks more like a slot guy.
With Fred back, who is a great pass catcher halfback, CJ Spiller maybe will line up more at reciver too.
Our TE is Scott Chandler. He's 6'7, not fast but a big target in the red zone.

VY and Mario on the same team, but not original teams. Man if you redid the 2006 draft it would look completely different. I guess that goes for every draft.

The only bad thing about this scenario is that its cold in Buffalo. With those tight hammies Vince will need to stretch seriously every single day, which takes a $#@! load of self discipline.
Stretching doesn't prevent muscle "pulls". Pre-game and Pre-practice stretches waste time that could have been spent warming up (does reduce strains) and actually practicing. Stretches are a testament to the collective ignorance of coaches.

    tarting spohttp://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/02/transcript-of-eagles-g-m-howie-roseman-on-pft-live/

MF: Vince Young was the primary backup last year to Mike Vick, he’s been available for weeks now on the free-agency market, he’s reportedly got a workout today with the Bills. How surprised are you that it’s taken this long for a market to develop for Vince Young?

HR: Very surprised. Vince was an unbelievable teammate when he was here and you saw him continue to get better. We felt like he was going to have an opportunity to go somewhere and maybe compete for a st. So whoever gets Vince Young is going to get a steal at this stage of the offseason and we wish him the best.

Looks like Vince impressed at least one Bill during his workout...
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- Buffalo Bills receiver David Nelson described free agent quarterback Vince Young as looking in great shape during his workout for the team on Wednesday.

What's unclear is what the Bills think about Young and whether he fits in their plans. The Bills provided no update after Young met with coaches and held an on-field workout at the team's facility.

A person familiar with Young's travel schedule would only say that the player flew out of Buffalo later in the day. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because no updates had been provided by the team.

Nelson was one of four Bills receivers to run routes and catch passes during the quarterback's session, and was impressed by Young's appearance and ability.

"He looked good," Nelson said, after honoring a teacher and hosting a discussion at Orchard Park High School. "Big guy. Physical and aggressive. He's in shape. He's definitely in shape working out and working hard."

sounds like everything went well in Buffalo, with the possibility that he may have some offers from other teams to explore as well.

i really doubt he's gonna get the vet minimum if he's going to be the #2 qb. i think the average for starting qb is about $10M, and the average for backups is about $5M, but that might've gone up the last few years. not to mention, the bills have a lot of salary space, even after signing mario williams. and there's nothing wrong with trying out with other teams if he wants to. try to get the best job offer/best situation/best coach/environment/etc.

i think he can try out for the texans, matt schaub might not make it in time for TC/Preseason/season opener, and if that's the case, i think they'll sign a vet qb, but it'll most likely be jake delhomme. wouldnt hurt tho, gary is a great qb coach.

This is his first tryout, and camp is about to start. Come on now. Houston is not interested.

Also, when you write something, using "i think" is redundant unless you are using someone else's words.

the reason it stands out is because it's uncharacteristic of Stevie Johnson... and it would have won the game, iirc.

Love seeing the olineman celebrating, then back to earth. What a terrible drop. It will haunt him.

I think Buffalo would be a good fit. Good receivers and backs. Fitzgerald is good, but not some unseatable superstar and not necessarily an iron man. Young would likely get a shot in Buffalo at some point.

"He looked good, he's in shape," is not a ringing endorsement of a QB. Has anyone ever said, "Tom Brady, Ben Rothelisberger, Kevin Kolb, Alex Smith, Jake Delhomme, Matt Hasslebeck looks like he's in shape"?
"He's in shape," is good if there was an expectation that he'd been hanging with JaMarcus Russell or took a year off, but he played as much football as Ryan Fitzpatrick. Is he in shape?

They may be playing it close to the vest, but you want to hear, "His passes looked good... He was accurate... He understood what we're trying to do... Etc."

  37. #187
I know this has been said before but Vince needs a team like this. An average QB with decent or good skill position players. When he was in Philly even when Vick got hurt Vince had no chance of holding on to the job but with the Bills if Fitzpatrick gets hurt then it would be tough for him to win the job back. I think the Vikings would be a good place to land because Ponder is a joke.

Etc."
You never say something looks good prior to buying it. You say it looks good right after the purchase.

That is the only comment to come out of this whole thing from the Bills' side. Guessing they're being tight-lipped as an organization.

I don't think it's an indictment of how VY looked in the workout as much as it speaks to the way perception of him has been shaped by the media. For people that don't know him, and most of these WRs are probably in that boat to a greater or lesser degree, that might actually have been their expectation of him.

Some of you guys are way over-analyzing a positive statement about VY's workout.

Both sides are. I'm guessing VY wants to keep options open to see if another team like KC or Arizona comes calling.

Prior to the work out the Bills posted the information on their website. The GM basically said they were bringing in a veteran QB who he thought was good.

At this point I think the Bills would love to sign VY. I think he's slow playing it for various reasons. A lot of moving parts to this.

It's because we haven't been able to hear them much lately. But I agree it's probably more of the organization staying as quiet as possible. If Vince looked really great in practice, and then the Bills went around telling everybody how great he looked, they would run the chance of drawing more teams' attention and possibly leading to a bidding war. If they really want him, then the things they've said so far are exactly what they should have said.

wish there was a Buffalo Bills Network so that his workout could be viewed live, but only by a few.

Have to love aggy Geoff Hangartner going all aggy on Fitzpatrick at the end thinking the ball was caught. Oh aggy, you continue to be a never ending fountain of entertainment.

Like I said, ONLY if Schaub isn't ready by training camp, and if jake delhomme doesn't want to come back/retired/signed with a different team. If Schaub isn't ready, Gary isn't going to settle for TJ Yates and Case Keenum on the roster.

Maybe he could, though. You don't really know for sure.
