Thread: World Soybean Supply Situation...

    World Soybean Supply Situation...

So it looks like for the first time ever we may have back to back South American and United States production disasters. Prices are already near record highs, and China continues to buy in record quantities. Is this making anyone besides me nervous? (Note: I work in the grain and oilseed trade for a living)

The day that I'm nervous about soybeans will be the day I know that I've gone off the deep end.

This, coupled with the guar gum shortage. It's probably somehow Halliburton's fault.

Also, more expensive bacon due to higher soymeal costs limiting hog production. In addition, China is very dependent on US soybean imports.

Corn and beans are taking a pounding in much of the grain belt. I happen to be in an area that is looking good right now...but we need rain in the next 5-10 days as well.

Look for prices to go higher on both. I wish I had my 10 bpa back I sold at $12.50 this spring.

no problem, everyone just needs to lay off the edamame at the local sushi joint. Well, it wouldn't hurt if we laid off of the fish too.

Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, let's just keep doing what we're doing. It'll be fine. My pet orange roughy told me so.

Considering China has to import massive amounts of soybeans every year from the US and South America, I doubt they were grown in China.

Don't worry..we already did...soydiesel. My brother and dad lost money in the plant up here that was built (but never produced a gallon before bankruptcy).

Of course, like wind power and ethanol, bio diesel was only ever produced because of the tax credits. If you want to see what a $#@!ty business looks like...find one that is highly subsidized by our Fed Gov.

I fully expect there will be some challenges with food production going forward. We're all of a sudden getting tight on supply, and demand rises with the financial situation of billions of 3rd world people in China, India and other countries.

pollination (corn)(about now) and pod setting (soy beans)(~1 mos. away) + heat + drought = low production and higher prices.

The early spring didn't help either.

So the weather continues to look like it is going to wreck pretty much everybodies crops this year, except for Canada. While this will raise the cost of food here, it will really cause probablems overseas, especially in import dependent countries. Afterall, hungary folk tend to riot.
