    SW Austin Shag, help my find my dogs

    Had a mass escape event last night while we were watching the fireworks downtown. Hadn't shown fear of fireworks before but they are GONE and it looks like they dug under a gate to get out. Hopefully they were taken in immediately but please be on the lookout for our standard poodles, Marley(b) and Lily(w). They are chipped but don't have collars since they've never left the yard before. We live near Mills Elementary at Davis and Escarpment.

    I hope Marley and Lily are OK. Have you begun calling shelters?

    5th of July is the biggest influx of dogs into shelters for the year. Not trying to be a $#@!, but for anyone else reading this thread, please put tagged collars on your dogs and never take them off for any reason (except bath time).

    FOUND THEM!!!

    Facebook gave us a hint that lead us to a family that tried to corral them last night but couldn't but saw where they went (across Davis to a self contained subdivision). Several leads later she found them. Mighty dusty in the house after I got that call. Hooray for good people.

    When the fireworks are going off, best to keep the pups inside the house. We walk them on leads even into the back yard while the festivities are going on.

    They are chipped and have collars but my wife hated the way they would jingle-jangle at night so they just went on for walks. She was also the one who put them out last night even when Marley wanted no part of going outside. She is cool with collars 24/7 with a good tag now and will probably never make them go outside again when we aren't here so they will love that. I am seeing if I can parlay the carryover guilt into giving me some lovin. Wish me luck.

    You don't need jangle tags. Petsmart online has either tags that are attached to the collar with brads or collars with the name and phone number embroidered in. We got a couple of the latter for our dog that escapes now and then.

    We use the flat ids like this because our dogs are active and we don't want them hung up on something. One drawback is people tend to only look for the dangle ids when identifying a lost dog.

    My neighbor lost his dog two years during july 4th(she got hit by a car). She dug underneath the fence. We had opened our fences so our dogs play together. My dog didn't try to runaway. I'm so thankful. Anyway, I'm glad you found your pooches.

    Those are great, but it doesn't take care of the registration and rabies vaccine tags. I coated ours with super clue and now none of them really make any noise.

    Just saw this, Rage. We live right by Mills and they ended up on Clarion Court (that cul-de-sac mini-subdivision) just across Davis from Lantana Way. A group of families were in the street and surrounded them/directed them into a house so they were inside and taken care of all of 30 minutes after they made it out. We sank limestone blocks under the gate and have the collars ordered. My wife had put up 40 fliers by 6:30 a.m. on the 5th, but I think I got them all out of your hood (are you off Abilene?).
