    I bought a Soloflex

My power rack/cage was just taking up too much space in the house, plus I'm working out mostly at the gym so I decided to sell it. The cage, the plates and the bar were just freaking space eating monsters.

Still, I loved being able to just bang out some quick chinups whenever I felt like it, so I wanted to replace the cage with a chin dip station. However, most chin/dips have weird configurations and are way too clunky, like this:

Seriously, what the fuck is this? Can I get any grip variation at all? I kept looking for a simple chin up bar with dip handles with no luck. They all have stupid doodads like handles for pushups at the bottom and what not.

Then I remembered the Soloflex. It's really a genius design in simplicity, so I bought one used for super cheap ($150).

(btw - dont' ask if that's a dude or a chick in the picture. I have no freakin idea. I just snagged it off some website)

When I put the bar in the top position, it's plenty tall enough for chins. The dip bar works great and it ended up being way cheaper than any chin/dip station I could buy.

The only problem is I may never use the rubber band stuff, or who knows, I might. But the dumbass leg extension thing (don't ever do leg extensions - terrible for knees) and the butterfly attachment will be collecting dust. If I can't find a way to give them away, I'm going to take them to the dump.

One word of warning - don't attempt those Crossfit style kipping pullups on the Soloflex. The way it's balanced, it'll tip backward. I found out the hard way. Luckily I didn't crash and burn. Just go slow and controlled.

But if you're in the market for a good body weight workout machine, I would suggest looking at Craigslist for a Soloflex. Folks are basically giving them away.

Your $150 didn't buy you the "third leg" attachment that fits on the back of it to keep it from tipping. You might try swapping out your leg/butterfly attachments for that helpful little piece of equipment.

I don't know how my third leg would keep that thing from tipping. I mean, I'm well endowed but not that well endowed.

Oh, you mean the Soloflex "third leg." Good point. I do have that thing. It's the thing that usually keeps the bench up, right? I'll put it on and should be good to go for doing some violent kipping chinups. Thanks. Forgot about that thing since I don't use the bench.

Phat - I had that exact thing before I sold it and bought the cage. It's good, but one thing that bothered me is the dip handles are angled. They should really be parallel to the floor. The reason why I didn't go with it again is because sometimes I like to hang some rings off the bar and do ring pushups (see pic below) or ring dips. It's impossible to do ring dips on it - the bars are too close together. Come to thing of it, ring pushups were pretty f'n hard to do too because those little fucking footpegs got in the way.

With the Soloflex, I have the bar on top and no other junk on the side to get in the way. But the Amazon unit is fine for chinups.

Right. I forgot it was used with the bench, I don't use mine anymore.
