The Copenhagen Wheel is about to go on sale

Goodness gracious I love technology. The folks at MIT invented a wheel that turns any bicycle into an electric bicycle and it is about to go on sale:

Giving fat asses a reason to get on a bike since 2013.

Doesn't this just defeat the point of cycling? Just get a motor bike

"The Copenhagen Wheel?" That sounds like some bull$#@! from LOST that would have been absolutely pivotal to the plot at one point, and then turned out not to matter to anything.

How long ago was this on weeds? Would have thought they were closer to selling it when they had all that publicity.

It doesn't so much defeat the point, as changes the point. That is, they're trying to move the bicycle from being a method of exercise, to a more legitimate and common mode of transportation. I think. Maybe.

Yeah, I'm missing the point here. What's wrong with a regular ole bike or a regular ole scooter? Why does it need to be a hybrid? What purpose does that serve? And why does everything have to be connected to some stupid ass iPhone app? And then shared with friends on Facebook?

I'm starting to hate everything. I gotta go yell at some clouds.

And why would any sane person want to do that? Get all the risks and dangers or biking without the exercise? That's like asking for a mega sized double cheeseburger and fries without the flavor. In areas that aren't incredibly spread out (like DFW) bikes are already a great mode of transportation and they help you be healthy and fit. 2 birds

I was mainly thinking that it would cost less and be more convenient than driving while taking less effort to get a further distance than traditional biking, but hey, continue to conflate the two goals of exercise and transportation all you want.

Is the concept that hard to understand? It takes much of the effort out of biking. It means you can bike farther, faster, with less effort. You may have only considered biking to places within a 5 mile radius. Now you can bike a 15 mile radius with the same effort. Long uphill climbs might cause certain routes to be off limits. Now you can climb hills like Lance. Maybe you don't want to bike to work if you're going to show up covered in sweat. Now you can bike to work.

There are e-bikes already on the market. There are also kits for converting any bike to an e-bike. The CW seems like only an incremental improvement. It just puts the battery in the hub.
