Just from scouring what's freely available out there, seems like we are in really good shape with:

Aaron Benson - MLB - Cedar Hill - Ced's cousin, I believe
Ahmad Dixon - S - Waco Midway
Darius White - WR - Fort Worth Dunbar
Jordan Hicks - LB - West Chester, OH - not sure the Texas connection, but it's there. He's camped with us, according to Rivals.
Darius Terrell - WR - Desoto - free article here
Jay Guy - DT - Aldine Eisenhower - I read a free article over the summer that he was just waiting on an offer to commit
Reggie Wilson - DE - Haltom City - Can't remember where I saw it right now, but supposedly we are the leader. 5-star candidate on Rivals.

I'd expect that we will see some of these names among our 1st few commits, which will start rolling in pretty soon after National Signing Day (Feb 4). Anyone know any other players that we are in very good shape with?

The Cedar Hill pipeline is strong. I think Benson is ours. I've talked to some Ohio State fans who says Hicks is ours.

I've read that we were his childhood favorite, but in past years that hasn't usually been enough for us to recruit someone from OOS (Trent Richardson). My impression was that in order for us to recruit an OOS blue-chip there either has to be a clear connection between that player and our program/state, or the player has to be fairly aggressive in contacting the coaching staff himself.

Hicks has already visited UT and attended at least 1 camp here. He liked UT to start and the staff, especially Muschamp, have been recruiting him for a while now. He says he has a verbal offer from the UT staff that will turn into a written offer the day after signing day. Top 3 are UT, Ohio State, and Florida in that order.

I don't know much. I just know he's not originally from Ohio but grew up in the South (maybe displaced by Katrina??), grew up a big Texas fan and has been recruited personally by Boom. Back in October he told Bucknuts that Texas was his favorite and leader followed by Florida and Ohio State. He also plans to announce before his senior season. For whatever the reason, early announcement bodes well for Texas. I believe he played safety last year so the kid is a great athlete. Probably projects to OLB under Boom.

Supposedly we have expressed interest in QB Mitchell Faine from Ohio. He was just named one of 50 national winners of the 2008 Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year program.

It would be unlikely, not impossible, that he would be talking with Dixon at school at this point. More than likely, he was there to do his handshake tour of current recruits' schools. He probably did it for Trey Graham that day.

I like this list a lot, but I'll add a few thoughts:
- IMO QB will be more like 1 or 2. If we didn't take any, we'd be in a very, very bad position in 2010 if either Harris or Chiles decide to transfer. Just from reading between the lines on Rivals it appears that we have even reached out to a few OOS guys. Perhaps we'll try to take 1 guy who's a QB all the way, and then go after an athlete, promising a shot at QB with the opportunity to move if it doesn't work out (Sam Carter maybe?).
- Trovon Reed is not coming here, and Seastrunk seems like a longshot at best at this point. DJ Jones seems like a strong possibility at RB and the dude has skillz.
- I've heard Jeffcoat loves OU. Hope that's not true. Seems like there used to be much more talk about Joseph Okafor. I wonder if he had a lackluster JR season.
- Looks like we are going to absolutely load up on LB this year. Agree that all 4 that you listed are looking very favorable right now, and all 4 look like studs. Perhaps one (or more) is being looked at as a DE candidate?

bularry, I can't think off the top of my head of any players we've had from Dunbar in recent years. I will definitely be trying to make it to a game or two of theirs next year, though. White, especially, looks like a national 100-type player.

Agreed. I hope we try and hog all the talent we can as far as the LBs go. Looks like a lot of good ones in this class. Besides the four already listed, there's Kurt Killens (Round Rock McNeil) and Anthony Beard (Lumberton).

After only taking Allen and Nwokpara in '09, it'll be interesting to see how many LBs we get with this next class.

I think we only take 1 RB because Lache is the only RB in the state with an invite to a junior day, and also there a couple of really good 2011 RB - Aaron Green (San Antonio) and Daniel Lasco (Woodlands)

we're not going to get Seastrunk, Reed, Mathews, Jeffcoat, or Hurd. My guess is Seastrunk, Reed, and Hurd to lsu... mathews to usc, and jeffcoat to ou.

However, i also hope our class shapes up the way you have it.

We need 2 QBs in this class. Look at the numbers and consider junior attrition out of the spring.

Jeffcoat is a must. If he winds up at OU, it is an upset and a bad, bad thing.

We lose only 15 seniors this upcoming year, but with attrition and such, you can expect this to be a year where 22-25 are taken. It is a strong year and a lot of players like Texas.

Matthews is more likely to stay near home than head to USC. He may be the one guy that is big time that favors ATM out of the gate.

I understand the lack of desire to pay Ketchum money so he can sit in his living room and play XBox while gorging on buckets of KFC, but Hamilton is over at burntorangebeat.com now and the guy and his partner are actually talking to folks, seeing them play, and providing honest opinions on the players and prospects. The Jeffcoat stuff is semi-public there, for starters. I pay for both sites and compare what I see and read. There is data to be gleaned everywhere, of course, and the more places you go, look, and ask, the clearer pictures start to become.

I wish I had some type of great insight for you guys, but I don't, really. I won't claim not to chat occasionally with folks that would know better than you or I, but I don't think anyone has blinding insight at the moment. I know that those who have spoken with him and his family, and have been to his games feel like it is Texas and USC with the rest being in the hunt but less so. The OU stuff is pessimistic FALSE, as best as I can tell.
