Toadies- Tyler, meaning behind the lyrics?

LOVED the Toadies at ACL. I got to be really close to the stage and rocked the whole time. I hadn't seen them since I was at UT 99-03.

Anyway, one of my favorites songs from them is Tyler... After their show, my buddies and I (all drunk and/or high) started arguing over the meaning of the song. I figured it would be a great Shaggy topic.

    Here is the song:
And she runs through her days
With a smile on her face.
    And she runs,
    And she waits.
    And I wait.

    We can drive to anyplace,
Day or night, across the state.
    And in the morning,
    Into Mexico,
    We will wake up.

    I will be with her...

I find a window in the kitchen,
    And I let myself in.
    Rummage through the refrigerator,
    Find myself a beer.
    I can't believe I'm really here
And she's lying in that bed.
I can almost feel her touch
    And her anxious breath!

    I stumble in the hallway
    Outside her bedroom door.
I hear her call out to me.
I hear the fear in her voice.
    She pulls the covers tighter.
    I press against the door.

I will be with her tonight .
-One of my friends said it was about rapes that happened in Tyler Texas.
-Another said it was about a stalker
-I always thought about it as someone who escapes prison, and is going to see his gf/wife... sneaks in the house to surprise her, FINALLY have sex with her (after being locked up) and then they will both escape to Mexico to avoid the law.

    what do y'all think?

it's A. I think it's similar to Possum Kingdom in that it's based on a true even that happened near where they're from.

It always amazed me how many people professed their love for that song and then had no idea what it was about.

there are many reasons why someone can love a song. understanding the lyrics doesn't have to be one of them. there are A LOT of songs out there with different meanings that people love.

    example:
-you can love the music (you can love songs in other languages too, even if you don't understand what they are saying... or love some Nirvana/Pear Jam songs where the words are completely mumbled hahaha)
-you can love a song by the memories it brings back (maybe a time in your life where you were listening to it, or who you were with when you first heard it)

-you could love being creepy in this particular case.

We played "Tyler" at my high school talent show. The administration even read the lyrics, I have no idea how they let us play it.

PK = not true, while Tyler has some truth.

Stripper aside, "Possum Kingdom" is not about "doing the nasty." It,
like most of Toadies' tunes, are stories, as Umbarger explains while Lewis
excuses himself to grab a tissue. "They're just these silly stories he's
heard his family tell. Like 'Tyler' and 'Possum Kingdom' are just like
    stories
...In Texas, there's just this big storytelling thing - whenever your
family gets together, they sit and talk and tell all these stories. 'Possum
    Kingdom' is a ghost story."
"Possum Kingdom is a lake. One of the ten best fishin' spots in the
    U.S.," Lewis says upon returning.

    Laughter breaks out yet again. "It's just a story I heard long ago;
it's just a really cool, eerie lake, and some stuff I heard and some stuff I
just make up. I tend to do that," Lewis explains about the watering hole
where his family used to hang out and barbecue. "They dammed up this big
river up there, and it's got all these spooky names like Hell's Gate. It's
    really cool."
Okay, no real vampire, but is there a real stalker in Tyler, Texas?
"Yeah, I was down there for Thanksgiving, and after the family got
through talking about who died and who's got cancer and all those things that families talk about, they started talking about this guy who was peeping in windows and started breaking into people's houses," Lewis recalls.
    "Stealing their beer," Darrel interjects.
"He'd go out of his way to be seen. And everyone is like armed to the
teeth, and he's like tapping on windows," Lewis says. "The whole family was
    freaked out about it."
"And he became like a folk hero," Herbert exclaims.
