bump for votes for Mack, and to say that Sean is on a plane right now on his way back to Iraq. We all salute you Sean. I love you big bro, I'll see you in August. And thank you again to Mack Brown for helping to make Sean's time here so special.![]()
Awesome post and pics DD. Thanks for sharing.![]()

New shit has come to light, and blacklab was cool enough to re open this thread for me. Sean was in town again for the last month, leaving yesterday morning. He left me with his camera though, so that I could use his SD card and save a bunch of pictures to my computer. Well, I know that like 99% of y'all dont have the LHN, myself included, so I thought I'd give you the only behind the scenes action I could really offer. On Sean's camera were 3 videos from the day we had the tour and visit with Mack Brown, including part of the tour of his office. Now that whole day is a blur, and all I remember is handing Antwan my camera in Mack's office and saying, "Take pictures like there's no tomorrow." I was too busy hanging out with Mack fucking Brown to be taking photos. Sean handed his camera to our friend Matt who just so happened to call Sean that morning to see what he was doing ("Man I'm glad I called that guy"), so he took all of the photos, as well as this one video in Mack's office. So, looking back, I guess that's why we have so little video. We were so caught up in such an amazing day that we didnt really stop and think that we should record a bunch of it. But, I got what I got, and I think some of y'all will enjoy seeing these.
Here is Sean running the 40 in "The Correction Room." For those of you who dont remember or havent read, the correction room in an indoor practice bubble on the top floor of M/N Fieldhouse, where guys go on Sunday to correct what the film showed needed correction.
Mack giving us the tour:
Watching this next video for the first time was pretty effing cool for me. This is 3 years after the fact, and getting to relive this moment right here was pretty special. It was a really emotional time with Sean being fresh off of Iraqi soil and about to go back. Hell, every time he's in town is emotional, even when he's just flying back to Hawaii (Schofield Barracks HOLLA). So when we got on the elevator to leave the facilities, minutes after Sean had told Mack about waking up at 2 am and walking a mile through the desert in full combat gear to watch Texas play a football game, and "The Eyes of Texas" ccame on, it was just this extremely cathartic, surreal moment, and we just thanked Antwan so much, cuz damn. That shit was awesome. Im glad Ive gotten to relive these moments, and hopefully y'all will enjoy getting to see them as well.
Hook em
Great experience. I worked with UT Athletics and I can vouch for Derka when talks about how nice these folks are. Coach Rucker all the way down to Mack's assistant are all great ppls...
now that's a good necro-bump. hook 'em.
Bad ass pics and vids. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I see the Texas Correction Room is different from the one in Lubbock...
Derka, thanks for sharing. Sean, thanks for your service.
It's cool to get a look behind the burnt orange curtain. Now how about you get back to answering all those PM's.
Hook' Em
Great stuff. Thanks for posting.
I don't know about Mack being a hero. Sean was the hero in that room and Mack treated him as such.
Did I hear correctly? Mack has a sweatshop in Iraqistan?
Cool shit DD.
Late to read this. Awesome experience Derka. As a vet, I love how Mack makes our men & women of our military a priority.
Figured Id give this one last bump for anyone who hasnt seen it during this hectic football weekend.

Damn, thats good stuff Derka. Glad Mack takes the time to do this. Hes a class act for our program.
Awesome videos Derka. Thanks for bumping this up.
nvm...
Derka, I loved this thread when you started it and just as much now with the bump. Thanks for adding this stuff.
Good shit man, gotta love Texas. For a bunch of evil doing greedy assholes (loltexags) , we sure seem to have a great group of men at the top of the athletic department.
Ive argued with people for years saying that I'd never trade Mack Brown for a few more wins, or a couple more BXII Championships. Its just not worth it. I'm in absolute awe with what is happening with Joe Paterno, and this, on the heels of Bobby Bowden and Jim Tressel being involved in pretty big scandals recently. I would never trade Mack in a million years knowing what kind of man he is, and what he stands for.
Good stuff!
I appreciate the story and views... especially after all the PSU news.
I needed a feel good lift and this delivered.
thanks
Derka, I couldn't agree more. The more I see from watching the LHN, the more I respect him and his staff. As a person who is fairly new and limited in time spent reading this site, can you give me your thoughts on why Mack is not appreciated by more on here and why some are so adamant in wanting him gone? There seems to be an overwhelming number that just do not understand how fortunate Texas is to have him here. I bet the players and their parents are very grateful to have him here.
That's just the Texas fanbase man. we DEMAND PERFECTION. Since 1998, you look at the elite coaches in CFB, and Mack is right there with Saban, Meyer, Carrol, Miles, Tressel, etc. You name a coach, and Mack's record stacks up pretty damn well against him. ESPECIALLY if Colt doesnt get hurt and we give Bama the ass raping they had coming to them. So, his results are in the same ball park as thoes guys, that much we've established. Now let's look at some of those names again, and see what kind of people they are: Jim Tressel, Nick Saban, Les Miles......only two of the names I even listed are still even coaching college football, and they both happen to be giant pieces of shit compared to Mack Brown. But hey, this is Texas. Our motto is: "Come late, be quiet, leave early, and bitch about the coaches." Or something like that.
I'm late to seeing the updates in this thread, but damn if Mack isn't one helluva human being. I really do love how much reverence he has for our folks in the military. I may not always agree with what happens on the field (Who does though.), but that's just a game and I've always been able to separate that stuff from what a good person he is. There's not a finer athletic representative of a university in this country than Mack.
Yeah you can delete it. Its a cool experience & kudos to Mack & you.
I just think its crappy that you judge all these other coaches & programs as "giant pieces of shit" when you no idea what they do or don't do behind the scenes.
