I like the Omega and Nauticfish. I have small wrists so the Omega would be fine. Where can I purchase a Nauticfish, I'm trying to search online, but can't seem to locate an online retailer?

Any thoughts on Oris watches?

We have a family friend that has a collection of about 200 Rolex and Patek Philipe watches. He has an Oris that he wears as his "casual" watch (e.g. to play golf).

Dude no worries... I like the Sinn and Stowa watches and think they've got a great price point... they're just not for me...

I like my Oris Classic. Alot. Great Build. It was 2 years old probably when I got it used and the 2824-2 ran -6 seconds a day. more importantly it was consistent in that manner, which means an adjustment of the rate and it will be +/- 0. Got it for a steal off ebay... thing is Oris has poor resale value so if you buy used its an awesome deal

You can buy the nauticfish straight from their website and I believe you can buy from the watchuseek forum shop as well. Pretty certain they do not have a USA based retail dealer where you can see the watch beforehand (much like most German watches). Word of warning, the nauticfish is a pretty sizable watch at 45mm so if you have small wrists, it might be too large. From what I have heard, it wears small but nonetheless, if you have 6" wrists, it doesn't matter how small a 45 mm wears, it will look huge.

Oris is a solid watch. I love the look of their diver watches.

I agree with Oris, great quality. I have one and wear it on leather and the bracelet. Nice dress and sport depending on band.

I think Augie has a steel Daytona with a black rubber band. It might even be the rubber tire band that's on the Chopard Mille Miglia watch. Looked pretty good, but I'm not doing it to mine.

For sure buy Oris used. They are smoking prices. Also the Touneau outlet mall has a nice selection of the divers and Mclaren Oris series for great prices. At least they did 2 weeks ago and they want to deal. At least you can check them out and see if thats the quality your looking for

Just got a $1000 gift card (discount card) for Tourneau, but I can only use it on the purchase of one of the following brands:

-Breitling
-Corum
-Ebel
-IWC
-Jaeger-LeCoultre

So... basically, it would take a $20K watch down to $19K... I'll probably pass.

Are there any reasonably priced watches from these brands where the $1000 off would be worth it?

obviously it varies by store, but tourneau usually has a pretty good pre-owned selection. if your discount card works for those, you might want to consider that route.

Not familiar with all of them besides breitling and iwc, but $1000 would take a good chunk out of the purchase price of many breitlings for sure

The Tourneau outlet has some nice Breitling quartzes for about 1500. They also had an amazing pre owned IWC Ingeneur for ~2500. This is in San Marcos

forget Jaeger and IWC unless you are wanting to drop another $5k on top of the GC you have..

you can find some Breitlings for about $3k with a leather strap...

Ebel and Corum are likely your best bet though as they are cheaper...

if Tourneau just sent this to you then I bet the $1k off comes with some disclaimer that you'll have to pay full retail for the watch then deduct the $1k.. if so, forget the Breitling, IWC and Jaeger for sure... you can get 30-40% off of those by negotiating at other stores, so why only get the $1k discount?

oh. and my watch is this TAG.

Dad gave it to my when I turned 21. I love it. I wear it everyday and I've had it for almost 8 years without any issues. Only watch I've ever owned that I haven't destroyed. Also, it doesn't set off metal detectors so I don't have to remove it at the airport. Always on time and it doesn't get scratched or beat up like my old watches.

That being said, I'm thinking its time for me to make an investment on a nice watch that I can be proud to say I bought for myself.

On a side note, my cousin spent a few years in China, and brought me back a couple of really nice Rolex knock-offs. These must be "high-end fakes" if there is such a term. They are automatics and the mechanics work flawlessly (they don't lose time if you wear them as your arm movement keeps them "charged"). They have the real weight and feel to them, and even have the laser engraving on the crystal, the Rolex logo on the crown, etc... I went to a local jeweler and could honestly not tell the difference between the real ones. I don't really wear these because I'm afraid of getting called out for using a fake, but damn, they look nice. If I lived in Dallas, I'd sport them all the time. haha

what are y'alls views on nice fakes? I personally wouldn't want to get called out on it, and that's the only reason why I don't wear them. But damn, with some of these that are basically an exact copy... it is pretty damn tempting. what if no one would ever know?

Rolex does not make a Stainless Yachtmaster with a white face. I'd take a baseball bat to the face before I got caught wearing a fake.

So you raise an interesting question.

A few years ago, I was talking to a work colleague of mine who at age 28 was already a successful enough investor that his job (equivalent to mine, sufficient to comfortably support a family of four) had become just walking around money and by 34 was talking about retirement. Anyway, we were in Vegas on business and I noticed he was sporting a new Air King, and I inquired (since he had just gotten back from China) whether that was the real thing or a good fake he picked up.

He was furious and let me have it: went through this whole song and dance about how even if he had the best fake in the world that he would feel like he was cheating himself to wear a fake and would rather walk around wearing a real Timex than the best fake Omega.

And I said: "you've got me all wrong, T---. It was meant to be a compliment. A good fake Rolex is a story- a hasty transaction conducted by desperate men. A real Rolex is a trip to Ben Bridge. Anybody with money can just go buy a nice watch. But it takes a cosmopolitan, well traveled man with a subtle eye and brilliant negotiating skills to knowingly buy a great counterfeit.

Him: "You're an $#@!".

Long island, if you choose to wear a knock off and let people believe it's real you've missed the point of having a possession so interesting.

And for the record those aren't high-end fakes.

actually it is pretty easy to tell they are fakes.... even in those photos.. the only fakes I've seen that fooled me were ones that were actually built with Rolex parts... in other words, a rolex bracelt and case refurbed from some busted watch... and a Rolex dial... the movement and crystal were not authentic...

you are a grown man and earn paychecks... don't buy fake.... I sold fake Rolexes when I was in HS... had a dude down on Harwin here in Houston that had Submariners and GMTs with automatic movements... $60 each... it was fun stupid $#@! back then... now.. not so much..

the only fakes I've seen that fooled me were ones that were actually built with Rolex parts

Some of teh ones you buy are really really good. not talking the $60 jobs but more like $400. box and everythign One of our traders bot one and we put it right next to a real one. No one could tell the difference.

wanted 38mm chrono -- it was between this and a Hamilton but being a germanophile i HAD to get Der Dreihundertsechsundfünfzig. would have preferred german date wheel but cheapskates cant be choosers....
