Damn I sure missed out this week. The mouse gets the cheese.
Damn I sure missed out this week. The mouse gets the cheese.
So Shaggy Sundays, huh?
I'm getting ready to go get my grub on. That beef rib is calling my name.
I just picked up my meats for the NFL game watching party.
Brisket, beef sausage, pork sausage, pork ribs, and prime rib.
Arrived about 12:05, and got in and out in less than 10 minutes. One group in line in front of me. They had driven up from San Antonio to go to Franklin, but it sold out so Franklin had told them to go to JMueller.
I ordered 1/2 pound moist, 1 beef rib, and 1/2 pound prime rib. Didn't end up eating the brisket, so it'll be for dinner.
The prime rib was very good. A perfect medium rare, tender as hell and good smoke flavor, although it needed salt. I wouldn't try to eat it with a plastic knife at the picnic tables, or you'd destroy it. Either bring a pocket knife, or take it to go and slice with a sharp steak knife.
The beef rib continues to be the best beef rib I've ever had in my life.
The meats went over very well. The prime rib slab I got was very tender. Just chopped up some sausage and fried with eggs for breakfast, $#@! was good.
Got my Shaggy Sunday fix of pork ribs, pork sausage, and brisket. I had only tried beef ribs and brisket before. All was awesome. Got a side of San Antonio Squash also.
I tried dipping the sausage in the sauce. The second time I had tried it. I love the BBQ, but I just don't like his sauce. It doesn't matter, b/c all the bbq is great and doesn't need it.
Swung by and picked up some brisket to eat while watching the Texans game. Once again no line. I'm enjoying it while I can.
Rocked the JMeuller's for the first time on Friday on the way out of town.
Pork Ribs - 9/10. I'm a big fan of Pepper in the rub, and so is John. Better than Franklin here, IMO.
Beef Ribs - 10/10. The reference standard. Seriously - that good. I got a few pieces of bark that were so tough so as to be unedible, and I LIKE it that way - means the meat is going to be awesome, and it was.
Prime Rib - 9/10. HOLY COW. I've never had it smoked, and neither had the guys I ate with, and it was just ... fantastic. Personally, I thought the rub/crust could have used more pepper, this the 9 rating (and not 10), but that might be personal preference. I'm going back on a Friday just for this.
Pork Sausage - 10/10. I think I've found my current favorite sausage. I've never liked the gristly, overly-fatty sausage that a lot of folks serve (think Elgin), and John's crumbly, slightly drier mix was just perfect. GREAT kick, too - not for the weak (more for me).
Brisket - fatty and medium fatty cut - 6/10. I'm going to write it down to an off day, but the brisket was boring. It was well prepared, and moist, and tender, but it was lacking flavor. I'm not going to hold it against him, and I'm 100% going to be eating it again.
And a Dublin Dr. Pepper in memoriam. Perfect Friday meal. Slammed, went hard, would see again.
Shoeless Joe, were you the one doing the cutting at about 1230 on friday? I didn't identify myself as being from the SHag, because "I'm from the internet' sounds stupid no matter how I phrase it :), but I want you to know that the SHag is still drivin' business your way :).

Say, how's your Mom doing? The other day you said something about her being a little ill?
When I went the other day, beef ribs were crossed out... but he miraculously was able to present two for me & my buddy.
That, + 4 slices of lean (again, it's the same thing we've been discussing about Franklin for the past 2 years - the lean is better than damn near anyone else's moist) & 1 beef link = awwwwwwwwwsome.
Perhaps -- just PERHAPS -- I am becoming a bit much of a regular.
Walked up to the window, and John cut off my taste of brisket, and tells me "and here's a paperweight for you," and gave me my pocketknife, which I had left out at Rox's place when shooting a few weeks ago. My buddy (who I was introducing to the place for the first time) looked at me and says "it's wierd that he had your knife. It's more wierd that he knew you on sight to give it to you." I shrugged, and ordered my honkin' beef rib, a slice of brisket, and a link of sausage.
Also, pretty sure I saw Trumpette, Wix, and Mitch a few tables over. Trump, if I might be so observant, have you lost some weight? If so, it suits you well -- you look great. Mitch, you didn't look so hot.
Without reading through this whole thread, what time is too late on a weekday?
I almost went today, it would have been a shaggy party. Alas.
You also saw toy
That was my first time. I'll be the derp who goes to the bbq joint and loves the turkey. And the baked squash goes hard.

I'll be there in tow with krew tomorrow. I'm dragging up the TxDot gig and going back to my business full time. So it's bitter sweet that I will be leaving the bowels of hell of a work environment but moving away from JM. I'll definitely have to make the trek down to JM from Pville. John, I'll be there about 12:05 tomorrow, save me 1/3 pound of moist, a beef rib and a serving of baked squash please.
Me and some coworkers are comin tomorrow. We'll aim to get there around 1130. What should we expect as far as crowd, seating availability, and wait time. Also should i make specific recommendations or is all of it incredible?
Had the moist brisket and tater salad today. In line at noon and still back at the office by one. Can't do that at Franklin. Did have to squeeze three people into the middle of a picnic table though. Our dining companions didn't seem to mind the intrusion.
That . . . is damn freaking cool.
Love 'em both, like seeing both guys succeed.
Barbecue is happiness. There's plenty to go around.
Here's my hopeful thinking . . . some days, John has to hustle to sell out (more at the mercy of the weather, etc.). Aaron always sells out, it's just a question of how long it takes. Now the lines are going to get crazy here. Dammit. But congrats.....
I would love to see them BOTH sell out . . . with SOME of the masses going to John now. If it's a 15-20 minute wait at EITHER place, then we all win.
Who in the hell knew I could be an optimist? My personality is much closer to John's than it is to Aaron's . . . I gotta get me a shot of some cranky juice pronto.
john, what time do you start selling out of food. am i $#@! out of luck if i swing by around 5?
Took a couple associates yesterday. Fantastic work man. I've never seen you not busting your ass when I'm there.
