New season starts tonight. I don't really see anything in the contestant bios that makes me have an early favorite. It usually takes me an episode or three.

Go Fish in Addison respresenting.
Last season will be tough to top in terms of quality of the chefs
It says Eric Ripert will be a recurring guest judge. That's good news.
Kevin was robbed last year. Bring him back again and he'll run the table on these fools...
I was a Kevin fan too. It's a shame he pulled out of the Bocuse d'Or. I wanted to see how he would do.
I don't think his style of cooking would work very well in the competition and that's not at all a knock on him. Presentation is such a huge part of the Bocuse d'Or and that's not Kevin's deal.
I don't know about this year, but bringing in chefs to top last season's will not be difficult in the future. Try getting a table at the top contestants' restaurants during/after their season. That kind of success will bring in people. It is making the Top Chef Masters contestants even bigger too.
Too bad Top Chef Masters was boring as fuck this season!
Doesn't appear to be any Caseys in this cast, but maybe the early leaders...

I miss Jenn. She was someone I would have happily crawled into bed with.
And the Padma/Nigella threesome is still one of my top Top Chef fantasies...

Padma is sporting the post baby juggs in the promos. They look bigger than Tom's head.
Ad banner is well directed on this page.
Thanks for the heads up.
Those girls are definitely not Casey's. I remember the summer of 2006 when Top Chef debuted (pre-Padma, ugh) and the World Cup was going on. Feels like it's deja vu all over again.
No doubt who was going home tonight.
this seems like it could be a good season
Padma's tits are epic.
Seems like a lot of promising contestants this year.
Few thoughts:
This episode should have been 2 hours.
Tom's bluntness at judges' table is out-fucking-standing!
Padma & Gail's tits are out of this world...
This does look like it will be a very competitive season.
Kenny, Kelly, Ed, & Angelo are my (fairly obvious) front runners...
The black guy that kicked ass in the mise en place competition is my favorite so far. I can't wait for him to knock Angelo down a notch or two. He's too cocky, like the guy from Zaytina last season. I thought there was a bit of controversy over who should go home.
SPOILER ALERT:
I thought both the chicken liver terrine chick and the dumb MI hippie mope both deserved to be sent home packing. There is no excuse for her royal fuck up considering she claimed to be so well acquainted with that dish (even though she didn't remember the recipe), and he was just a royal fuck up in general. If you're the only one doing a dessert, you better make it awesome, otherwise you're going to look like a dipshit, which he did. And there is no excuse for using pre-made puff pastry there. He could have thrown together a pie crust, rolled it out, cut it into squares and baked it off to get another acceptable vehicle to carry his dessert, but he went the Sanda Lee road and got burned. The dude just sucked ass and deserved to be sent home crying like the little bitch he proved to be.
some reason this opener didn't grab me... hoping next week gets me, i like being addicted to this show
It's obvious to anyone who has watched a season or two of Top Chef that desserts are judged by two different standards based upon if the challenge requires them or not. It amazes me that contestants still haven't figured this out after how many seasons. If you're going to make a dessert when you don't have to, it better be pastry chef quality.

None one has grabbed me so far personality wise, still early. I mainly just hope Kenny, Tim, Angelo, and every other I am god's gift to cooking gets knocked down a notch. I understand being confidant in competition, but they all seemed like arrogant pieces of shit. So far, my favorite is the Russian and the dark haired girl, everyone else can suck it. Yes, I understand that Angelo and Kenny are probably the most talented but they seem like cocky fuckers, so I am not going to root for them just yet.
The DC political angle is already a huge turnoff for me.
Looks like the girl from Go Fish isn't going to last long. I didn't see her in a single one of the previews for the rest of the season, even in the background.
Initial impression: meh. I agree with a previous poster--after last season, it would be hard for this group not to be a letdown as far as talent.
I can't believe Dreadlock Dessert Disaster was a James Beard nominee. WTF are you doing making dessert on the first challenge?? Has he never watched this show?
I'm already tired of Angelo. Bacon foam? Pfffft... yawn. I hope that isn't indicative of what this group considers to be innovative and exciting.
I love Eric Ripert as a new judge though. He is so polite, but gives good criticism.
Padma has a swing in her living room, a painting of herself over her bed, & she is her own screensaver...

I think Kenny will be my horse this year. Stud on the quickfire, and should have beat Angelo in the first challenge. Angelo looks like such a tool. That's the difference between him and last years cocky asshole Michael Voltaggio
No attractive female chefs this time. No Caseys or that one Asian/Jewish chick who was canoodling with Hosia or whatever that dude's name was.
That one douchebag from NYC (Angelo?) bugs the shit out of me. I want Kenny to kick his ass, in the kitchen and out.
I think this year there was only one James Beard nominee and he went home first. Last year was the finest group of chefs from top to bottom since Season One and probably stronger overall than the first season since Dave couldn't hold a candle to Kevin . Last year, Hector was a JB nominee and he was cut early in the competition for his fried steak creation. Angelo and Kenny look the strongest but the asian dude from Nashville may be a darkhorse.
Apparently they are almost done filming the next Top Chef in LA, and supposedly a chef from Houston is still in with only 2 or 3 others left.
I thought the Quickfire was fucking ridiculous!
Amanda should have gone home; like one of the judges said, sherry should never even be in a school pantry. Not to mention her chicken looked & tasted horrible!
Angelo is definitely a little bitch. Peanut butter & celery... Really? He's obviously deathly afraid of Kenny & doesn't have the balls to beat him on his own merit.
Agree. Can't believe Amanda wasn't sent home. Wasted money on inappropriate sherry, probably had the most expensive dish, and the judges said it was practically inedible. At least the kids seemed to like the banana dessert, even if it had too much sugar. And Julianne should have been given some leeway for doing the necessary dessert. Amanda couldn't make chicken that kids liked? Really?
Also can't stand the chick who won.

I'm surprised peanut allergies weren't taken into consideration in Angelo's pb "dish"
Peanut allergy prevention is pretty big in schools today.
I think Tom was wrong when he told Angelo that he didn't think he was trying to lose on purpose. I'm pretty sure he was. Kenny and the other guy deserve some of the blame as they should have forced the other two to take a backseat in menu planning since they had immunity, but how Angelo handle that challenge was inexcusable. I'm rooting for anyone but him after that.
Finally watched this last night. So why did they not pick a bottom team, then pick the worst from that team? They were making a big deal earlier about how Kenny (? the black guy?) would have a 50% chance of going home if his team lost because those other two had immunity. Then they call 4 back in the room to pick the loser.
Agree that the lady who made the sherry chicken should have been sent home. That would seem to be a no-brainer for a lot of reasons (don't serve alcohol to kids, too expensive, etc.). And the point about the peanut butter was spot on - that wouldn't be allowed in schools today although in fairness I suppose it technically wasn't part of the rules for this challenge. Had he not had immunity, that would have or should have sent him home.
