Pretty good episode tonight...
Whichever girl Ed & Angelo supposedly shared had to be ugly as fuck.
Michelle Bernstein fucking put Kenny in his place.
Tamesha fucking sucked, she deserved what she got.
Next week's ep looks really interesting! Fuck Alex's bitch-ass...
Well, you knew they weren't going to send Kenny home so what did Tamesha think was going to happen?
Brutal challenges this year. Having the power to send one of your competitors to elimination? Ouch.
Was Collicchio (sp?) getting irritated at the judging by the first group of chefs. He seemed to be rolling his eyes the whole time. Funny how that group trashed everything but the second group seemed to go out of their way to find positives in each dish. Of course, that could be (and probably is) due to editing.
I think Tom was a little irritated. They were being ridiculous. Kenny could have cooked the greatest dish ever and Angelo still would have said it sucked. I'm glad his little plan got his girlfriend sent home. This season has some Survivor type shit going on that I don't like at all. I don't watch Top Chef to see people out maneuver each other and try to get the talented chefs eliminated by any method other than cooking better than them. I hope this isn't a trend going forward.
This whole Washington theme sucks completely, but seems to fit with the overall vibe washington is putting out right now. No way this show should have team challenges, or challenges where you can send home one of your competitiors. We are what 5-6 weeks in now, and this season really sucks. None of the people are very likable, the washington vibe as mentioned sucks, the challenges have mostly sucked, and many of the chefs seem to suck at cooking, and at life.
Agree with all of this. I think the producers fucked up by awarding everything in the first few episodes to either Angelo or Kenny. They made it seem like those are the only two to root for, and frankly both suck. Angelo moreso than Kenny.
I'm cutting down my cable plan and losing Bravo this week. I'm not that disappointed.
I never like the episodes where the chefs comment on each others food. They're always trying to one-up each other with their comments to prove who's palate is more refined. Then there's the stupid shit like, "I don't understand the vision behind this dish. Also, it had 5 too many grains of salt and one of the pieces of onion was 2 microns bigger than the others. I almost vomited because of it." Letting them choose who's up for elimination just makes it worse.
Angelo's giant bowls with just a bite of something flavorful are this year's foam.
I wonder if the political nature of the challenges this year (the teams, the mix-ups, the contestants judging each other) is an attempt to introduce BS Survivoresque drama (in which case I am out) or just a one-year element to tie in with DC? Either way it sucks.
I don't like it when they do a challenge that involves survivor type strategies. If they want to have the other team judge then they shouldn't know who made what.
Great comments about the bad trend of "Survivor" type tactics, too many team competitions, and the contestants getting to choose who is up for elimination.
I hate this season.![]()

They were probably hoping for someone to get shot, with it bieng in DC and all.
I would very much like to see this show done with blind judging. Judge the food, not the personality. Too bad that the producers don't think that makes for interesting tv.
The whole "Stop what you're doing and pass your dish to the chef on your left" shit is getting old too.
I can understand it when there's a few awesome proteins to cook with and a few that suck, but when everything's exotic AND they randomly drew for picking order the changing proteins is stupid.
I do love Top Chef Masters, but even there, the judges know who made what, and it's easy to manipulate who goes home. I want the judges to score the dishes in private, no discussing it with the other judges until it's in front of the contestants. And keep a running score for the season. The person with the lowest cummulative score after a week's chalenge goes home. Bonus points awarded for challenge wins. The finale needs to be worth enough that anyone left could still win. It would never happen, but that's what I want to see. The current format does not reward success over the course of the season, and as long as the producers have a say in who goes home, it will never be what it should.

Top Chef Masters isn't popular because instead of Padma, they have that nameless, faceless Asian chick hosting it. Is Colicchio even on that show? What about Gail? I don't watch because even though the chefs kickass, the B-team hosts are boring.
I never thought it would happen, but I prefer Hells' Kitchen to Top Chef now.
Well, the thing is that the producers/judges do take in mind the entire season when deciding who to eliminate, although it's completely subjective. Obviously they also take into account the drama factor and the chef's personalities, but they pretty clearly give contestants an edge if they've consistently performed at a high level throughout the season. I think it's dumb too, but they have a winning formula, ratings-wise, so it's not going to change.
What a bunch of fucking bullshit.
*Spoiler I guess*
Alex is a complete piece of shit for taking Ed's puree. Not only did he know Ed made it the day before, but he flat out lied when Ed asked him if he took it. And then to win BECAUSE of the puree is bullshit. If I was Ed I don't think I would have handled that as well. I know you're not supposed to really say stuff like that to the judges, but after the fact when Alex was announced the winner, I think he should have said something. Also a little surprised someone else didn't say something in his behalf.
If I was Ed, I would have asked Alex when and how he made the puree in front of the judges and if any contestants happened to see him making it. I can't believe they left it unresolved. This season isn't very good, but I would never go as far to say that I like Hell's Kitchen better. Nothing on that show is real, all the way up to the "executive chef" job the winner gets every season.
They never said what happened with the puree. I thought I saw the bald headed guy making a puree at the Palm's kitchen. It's one thing to accidentally use somebody else's ingredients, but surely he wouldn't flat out steal somebody else's already prepared dish and then lie about it.
<yawn>
that episode was an editor's wet dream. alex seems like a creepy perv, but if he really had taken ed's englishpeapuree someone wouldve called him out on it or they wouldve had some sweet camera work showing ed left it at the kitchen or alex taking it.
no one called alex out on it, not even the judges and they usually do on shit like that.
This season sucks. I'm not entirely sure Alex stole the puree, but if he did, I would have beat his ass down. I suspect this will lead to more drama in coming episodes. I was more offended by the girl who cut the porterhouse off the bone and said she had never cooked a porterhouse before. I realize she's young, but how the hell do you become a professional chef without having ever cooked a porterhouse steak?
On a somewhat related note, Art Smith is one of my favorite recurring Top Chef guests and I was impressed to see his amazing weight loss. Quick Google search told me that he was diagnosed with diabetes and in response lost 85 pounds the old fashioned way and is now healthy and looks it.
Alex may be my most despised contestant ever, & that has abso-fucking-lutely nothing to do with the puree! Fuck you spare!!
Kelly & Kenny are the only two I give a fuck about now...
Ed & Stephen are both embarrassing to previous chefs on this show.
I think I hate everyone on this season. Except for Kelly and Kenny..they are in the "meh" category for me so I guess I'm rooting for them? This episode sucked, I wish they had resolved the pea puree drama...
and WTF was up with that chick saying "if her fiancee knew what was going on he would not like it". WTF? Ed was just sitting there talking to the girl from Dallas about food, and the contest. This chick goes and says something like that, they air it, and now the girl is probably having to explain to her fiancee that it was all BS. It was clearly BS. This season really sucks hard.
if i was ed i would've kicked alex's ass. he debo'd ed's puree and won with elimination challenge with it. and he didn't do shit about.
**Spoilers***
Stephen seemed like a good guy, but he needed to go.
Restaurant wars next week.
alex needed to go 3 episodes ago
they should just cut everyone and have Kenny and Angelo have a cook-off. this season blows
i am just watching for the sake of watching it play out. there is really nothing compelling nor any real budding greatness on this season. Can someone please come up with a new presentation of a sauce/puree/etc on a plate besides dabbing a bit then running the back of the spoon through it? god that is so cliche, and played out at this point.
Tiffany seems to be getting better and better. May be a dark horse in this thing (no racist, nor pun intended). Kenny has either been bad, or middle of the pack yet despite that fact I still think he is one of the more talented in this season. Kelly might be okay as well. ANgelo clearly has some talent, but is such a little bitch it is hard to get past that. Kevin also seems to be hitting his stride a bit. Ed seems to have some talent too, but he also seems as likely to be in the bottom as the top. Bottom line is this season really sucks. They need to have Top Chef Houston in a bad way.
I think Kenny has a problem with trying to do too much with each dish. It seems like he does a duo of something in every challenge and he gets wrapped up in making the dish as complicated as possible. The judges usually like his food but he hasn't been at the top in awhile and I think that's why.
i think either ed or angelo win it all.
I read Tom's blog and he swears they don't know if Alex took Ed's pea puree. He said the producers went back through all the tapes and didn't find anything. Also, the judges did not know anything about the controversy while they were judging the challenge. He said there are usually only two cameras filming when the chefs are cooking so it's not unusual that they didn't catch what happened. He also raved some more about Tiffany's chicken tamales. They must have been awesome.
I saw this ending coming from a mile away. The Beast was just too cocky for a guy with just 1 win and 4 bottom finishes in 9 challenges. He may be a good chef, but he didn't show it here. Yeah, Alex should be gone, but in the context of the way the game is played, the right person went home. I know many will disagree.

I complimented the show last season on even though the technical rules are to judge a person on one night, the show did a great job of sending the overall worse person home when it was a close call. One week one of the Voltagio brothers by all rights should have been sent home and another week Jen, but they both made it through as they should have. Tonight, they should have sent home Amanda over Kenny on that premise, but certainly I can't disagree that Kenny deserved to go home on that night alone. Amanda has just been really weak.
And props to kevwun for pointing out a couple weeks in advance the exact criticism that got Kenny sent home.
I think you could make the case that Kenny deserved to go based on the season as a whole, to date. Nobody has more bottom finishes than he did. He finished in the top just twice (one win) while Tiffany has five top finishes (one win), Kelly has four top finishes (two wins). Even Alex has more top finishes (some of which may be attributed to dumb luck, but that is part of the game).
I just never thought Kenny was all that good. He talked a lot of noise, but when push came to shove, the judges often didn't like his food and he was consistently clueless or just blinded by his own ego. He's better than Alex and probably Amanda, but he's f'd up worse than they have. He seemed to think he was going to win by being a "beast in the kitchen" and churning our duos and trios of everything and he never stopped to consider if his food was any good. Obviously, it wasn't.
If Kenny made a better salad or fried piece of cheese, he would still be here.
Having said that, I mother fucking DESPISE Alex!!!! HTF are you going to treat your waitstaff that way?! I wish those kids would have pulled a gay flight attendant & told that piece of shit to go fuck himself!! That would have been some good TV...
Alex (to his chef teammates): "Uh, guys, we're kind of fucked here because our servers told me where to stick it & left. Any ideas on what we should do now?"
I can't fault them for sending home Kenny. He made two crappy dishes and has been trending down for a while. Amanda's sauce was at least good even if the steak wasn't and even it didn't seem anywhere as bad as Kenny's fried pound of goat cheese.
I thought Kelly had a good shot at winning for a while, but her food gets criticized for not tasting like anything much too often for that to happen I think. She clearly doesn't like the same amount of seasoning as most people do and when she cooks to her tastes she get's called out on it. The next episode she usually does better, but then she slowly reverts back to her tastes again until she gets called out on it and the cycle starts over.
Angelo consistently cooks good food and is in top half most of the time. I don't think he's consistently great enough to be a strong favorite though. Tiffany and Ed are both solid and Kevin is probably right behind them. Usually you can point to 2 chefs by now and be pretty confident one of them will, but I have no idea who's going to win this season. Only Amanda or Alex would really shock me.

Tiffany is really finding her groove, and it seems Ed is too to some degree. Ed, ANgelo and Tifany I think are the top 3. Kevin can be great one moment, and then in the bottom the next. no consistency. Seems the next two weeks it should be pretty easy pickings to send home ALex and Amanda. Theme should be simply don't eff anythign up too badly because one of those two will.
I don't think this one was close at all. Frank Bruni called the cheese dish a "monstonsity". Wow.
That + salad that no one liked + exec. chef of losing restaurant wars team. No brainer.
