The non-waiver deadline is a little more than a week away. Will there be any blockbusters this season?

i think the only two guys on the market that would be considered "blockbusters" (now that the rangers got lee) are oswalt and prince fielder. i am going to predict that both of them stay put.
there should be a lot of really solid players available though. as a braves fan, i am hoping to get someone like corey hart or david dejesus.
Oswalt to Cards is the latest rumor...
Certainly not a blockbuster, but Alberto Callaspo was traded to LAA today for Sean O'Sullivan & a minor league P... Pretty good move for LAA, they needed help at 3B, Brandon Wood has been a complete failure.

david dejesus was hurt last night and is out for at least two weeks, probably taking him off the market.
So is Adrian Gonzalez not on the market anymore?
they're in first place and have the second best record in the nl (and only trail the braves by half a game at that). i'm not sure they can hold on, but they have to try.
sounds more and more like mcclain wants someone's entire farm system for oswalt, so look for him to stay in houston.
I keep waiting for the Padres to fold, but I don't think they're going to.
bigOrange, time to look at jason werth.
lol, i would like the braves to trade for david wright, ike davis, roy halladay and ryan howard.
Detroit better go get Dunn with all the hits they've taken this week!
honestly, i wish the braves could get dunn (of course i wanted them to get him prior to the 2009 season when he was a free agent). i know that glaus had that nice stretch in may and early june, but since then he has pretty much done nothing. i keep telling anyone that will listen that the braves need to get another bat and while i had primarily been talking about an outfield bat, an upgrade at first base could do the trick as well.
of course it won't happen as trading glaus for dunn straight up makes no sense for washington, but dunn is a guy who i think would really fit in well in the middle of the braves lineup.
Great, you just sealed Dunn's fate!! He's gonna blow out a hammy now!
I'm still hearing someone like Cody Ross is more likely to Atl...
yeah i heard that too. while it doesn't thrill me, anything that gets nate mcclouth the fuck out of the lineup is a good move imo.
^^^ Don't know about that one, Yanks seem more likely to me unless they decide they want Lilly instead.
It was announced just now on the D-Backs / Giants broadcast. Haren for Joe Saunders and 2 other pitchers + a player to be named later.
Damn, I thought you were just mentioning a rumor!! Not great news for Rangers' fans...
Dan Haren was traded to the Angels in exchange for pitcher Joe Saunders and Rafael Rodriguez, minor league pitcher Patrick Corbin, and a player to be named.
Haren was having a disappointing season, but he's been one of the most consistent starting pitchers in the majors over the past five years. He is the Angels' hope to get back into the AL West race, which had seen them fall six games behind the Rangers.
could be good news for the astros though as the #2 starting pitcher still left on the market is now gone to a team that isn't the yankees or phillies meaning that if those teams want to add a good starting pitcher they are going to have to seriously consider oswalt in spite of his contract.
I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty unexciting trade deadline week.
The Giants were in the final talks for David DeJesus before his season ending injury. I'd like to see Hart get shipped to SF, but it looks like that won't happen.
I just need my Rangers to get any one of Cantu, Helms, or Wigginton!!
141/29 K/BB ratio in 141 IP for Haren is pretty solid though...

Angels problem is not having Vlad's production, Morales hurt and Matsui being mediocre. They've been lucky with Napoli playing so great lately, but if he's slumping they have no pop in that lineup.
Steal for the Angels.
If AZ were smart (or had an employed GM at the time), they would have been throwing Haren into the Cliff Lee bidding. The Angels gave up about 1/4th of what the Rangers gave up for 3/4th of the pitcher, with a longer decent contract.
Dan Harens having an off year for himself, but he's still better than average.
Haren is a badass. Poor team + Poor ballpark this year, so his stats don't look great. Saw him pitch in early May in CO and the dude just dealt the whole game.
Problem is he's going to the AL- isn't he hitting like .375 this year?
Jeez, check out the players Ari had to give up for Haren three years ago: Brett Anderson, Carlos Gonzalez, Chris Carter, Aaron Cunningham and Dana Eveland.
Granted, Haren was younger & cheaper then, but that's 5 current major leaguers!!
Washington Nationals first baseman Adam Dunn could be dealt to the White Sox if Chicago is willing to sweeten the pot and add a second substantial minor league player in return, according to a major league source.
Any deal for Dunn would have to include Daniel Hudson, the White Sox's top pitching prospect. The Nationals also want one of three White Sox prospects: catcher Tyler Flowers, outfielder Jordan Danks or injured infielder Brent Morel.
I would MUCH rather see Danks playing for Wash than CWS!! Strasburg, Harper, Danks a few years down the road would be fairly entertaining...
The Nats also have Longhorn pitcher Adrian Alaniz in their minor league system.
What a pussy!!
Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee has invoked his 10-and-5 rights and rejected a proposed trade to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Lee did not want to comment prior to Wednesday's game, saying he had talked to Cubs general manager Jim Hendry about his options but was keeping those discussions private. Hendry confirmed Wednesday that Lee was invoking his rights and wanted to finish the season with the Cubs.
The Angels were looking for another bat after Kendry Morales was injured. Lee does have a full no-trade clause and is owed about $4.95 million for the rest of the season. But he also has been in the league for 10 years and five with the same team, which gives him the right to veto any deal.
"There may be a time when I'm ready to talk about it but not now," Lee said Wednesday.
Lee, who will be a free agent after this season, is batting .248 with 11 home runs and 44 RBIs, well off his usual pace. In 17 games since July 6, he is hitting .333 with 17 runs, seven doubles, one homer and eight RBIs.
The Rangers also were looking at adding a right-handed bat who could play first, but Lee, 34, was not a good fit.
Enjoy finishing the season with your 46-55 ballclub...
I've heard Jorge Cantu to the Giants. Real thrilling, breaking news I know. This trading season is shitacular.
^^^ That's still a pretty good pickup for you guys. Would love to see him in Arlington instead, but sounds like we can't even afford the ~$2M left on his deal...
i don't understand why all of the teams needing a big bat aren't lining up to try and get adam dunn. dude can mash.
^^^ Apparently Wash wants a ton...
Podsednick to the Dodgers. Yawn.
Nats will also get 2 1st rounders for Dunn if they don't trade him, so the offers had better be big.
I admit, I'm OCD about this time of year!
The Astros have a deal in place to trade right-hander Roy Oswalt to the Phillies if the ace pitcher agrees to waive his no-trade clause, Houston television station KRIV reported late Wednesday.
The report, citing league sources, said the Astros have approached Oswalt about the trade and are awaiting his response. The story also says the teams have agreed upon the amount of money the Astros will absorb to help offset some of Oswalt's contract, as well as the players going to Houston.
The Astros have scouted Phillies left-hander J.A. Happ's most recent starts, and he likely would be included in the deal.
Astros general manager Ed Wade also personally scouted Philadelphia's Class A Lakewood affiliate earlier this month. First baseman Jonathan Singleton, an eighth-round pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, could be included in the deal. Singleton, 18, is hitting .319 with 12 home runs, 57 RBIs and a .962 on-base-plus-slugging percentage in 248 at-bats.
Oswalt is owed about $5 million more this year and is due to make $16 million next season in the last year of his contract, but there's a club option for 2012 that would pay him another $16 million. He said last week the option wouldn't be an issue when it came to approving a trade.

And Peralta to Det...
No, Jhonny Peralta isn't a blockbuster move heading into Saturday's non-waiver Trade Deadline. But for a rookie-laden, injury-riddled lineup, he's the exact help the Tigers need right now, and arguably needed the last two days.
By acquiring Peralta Wednesday night from the Indians for Minor League left-hander Giovanni Soto, the Tigers added a veteran presence in the middle of the order and at third base. They also gave themselves a chance to regroup amidst what remains a division race after losing starting third baseman Brandon Inge and run producers Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen to the disabled list all last week.
