George Harrison. My three favorite Beatles songs were all his.
1. Here comes the Sun
2. While my Guitar Gently Weeps
3. Something
terribly underrated Harrison song:
Absolutely agree, Jive. That is just a damn fine song.
George turned me on to Eastern philosophy. I'll always love him for that.
For a second there, I read that as Lenin vs McCarthy. Tough call that.
Just kidding Lenin was a bastard. Either way, I'd rather think about that than waste as much time as some of you losers sitting here jerking it to the most overrated band ever.
I know this will come as a shock so sit down or hold onto something, but the Beatles didn't invent music. There would be no cream your overratedsenseofmusicappreciationjeans without American blues.
And just to head you off, there's no American blues without.......

And there'd be no blank without some caveman banging some shit together to impress some cave lady so he can get his dick wet.

The OP presents a false dichotomy. It's not either, it's both or all of them. John, Paul, Ringo, and George. They were the Beatles. As the Beatles, they were greatness personified. They were one channel to see God. Alone, they were nothing. They should have killed themselves the day they broke up. Together, their greatness was so overwhelming, their music so wonderful, they were destined to disappoint individually. It was the collaboration that made them awesome. They proved beyond any doubt that individually they were shit on a shingle when left to themselves.
Lennon.
I think its safe to say Octopus's Garden ranks about 208 in the catalog.
I didn't read any of the posts, but I wanted to chime in with The Beatles suck ass.
I detest that post Beatles Lennon. I detest hippies. I detest drug use including hallucinogens. I detest his "Imagine no religion" religion hating.
I detest The Wings. I mildly liked "Ebony and Ivory". I detest what McCartney is now, and it makes my skin crawl every time he shows up in the news for dumping his pegleg wife or condescending about global warming whilst riding his private jumboliner.
I honestly don't know what George Harrison did afterwards, his songs added an interesting mix into the Beatles standard repertoire, what with the sitar and stuff.
Ringo killed on SNL.
As a group, they thought that since they were great once, they were still great artists. It was a moment, it was a great moment. Alone, these guys are average to below average musicians. They ought to have taken the Shatner approach to their fame and wealth, it's much more becoming and let's you have a legitimate second career.
I think I may hate you.
For me it's Lennon and it's not even close. Those choosing Paul like pop over art and there's nothing wrong with that. It's what you like about the Beatles probably, as well. Those of you who are picking based on Yoko, peglegs, religion, politics, hippies, etc., are a bunch of fucking idiots. Go listen to country music so your retarded worldview doesn't get questioned.

I have an idea, why don't you go fuck yourself instead of telling people what they like and why.
I can understand someone detesting God, but Imagine? Come on.
hating peace, love, pot, (and to a lesser extent, hippies) misses the point of The Beatles--and John especially. (See The US vs. John Lennon documentary). "Imagine" argued for a borderless, non religious and non materialistic world that would facilitate world peace. It was purely aspirational. Even Hippie John, being born in the mean streets of Post War Liverpool, knew better than anyone on this board, that his argument was merely rhetorical and that certain persons would reject his call for brotherhood and would instead cling to their provincialism and myths, helping to usher in yet another era of hostilities. We remain hopelessly stupid, but occasionally a poet comes into our midst and tries to roust us from our angry reverie; most just utter some guttural sounds and resume their hate. Oh well.

If you weren't born during the time of the Beatles then you shouldn't comment. Sorry. You have no right to comment on something you didn't experience.
Just for the record I'll take Harrison over the both of them, but John over Paul. John's music was/felt so much more personal and emotional (by large) than Paul's, which were just great rock/pop songs.
I just want to state on the record that "Ram" is by far the greatest post Beatles album ever written by a Beatle.
I'm dead serious, hippie.
Better than All Things Must Pass or Imagine? You might have better judgment if you adopted some hippie tendencies, whippersnapper.
Shhheeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid. I cherish those albums as well, but it's McCartney's whimsical tendencies that keep me coming back.
And I wanted to be a hippie, but I was born in Reagan's America and had no hippie support.
Groovy.![]()
I was not born in John's lifetime but I guaran-fucking-tee you I know more about the Beatles than you do. Good for you for being there (read: old), but just because I didn't experience the Beatles while it was happening does not mean I don't experience them. The recordings I'm hearing are the same ones you did. If you happened to see them live, it was for under 45 minutes and you probably couldn't hear them, anyway.
AAWWW Shit, This is a hard one... Well, If you know anything about The Beatles, it's a close race. I guess Lennon, but having seen McCartney in concert (which was aaammmaaazzing) I definitely have respect for him too. They both wrote great songs and have great voice. Fact is, The Beatles are one of the best bands of all time! I'm a huge fan![]()
