Shaggy Tailgate - Rice - now with map!

We're going to shoot for the yellow lot, as close to the red dot below as possible.
I'll be there around 11am, standing next to a black mercedes with a big white cooler on the ground.
I'm bringing a big cooler full of ice and a few cases of beer. If someone wants to step up with some food I will pitch in some money towards it.
I have room for one more in my car for the trip down from Austin. We're meeting at my house at 8am.

Lots open at 10:30am. It is going to be hot-hot-hot in that parking lot, worse than 11am games at DKR. Not sure what we're going to do yet, but we'll be in the blue lot. Others have scoffed at the idea of brats, burgers, and chicken, but that's fine. I might be serving bloody mary's from the Tahoe just so we all make it to the game. More as things develop, but I don't think anyone will feel unwelcome in the lots.

and Bob... what we've done in the past is just get there early and park in the cash lots on the west side of the stadium north of Murwurth.. if you get there early enough you can pick your spot and along the edges of the lots are some green spaces with trees... it isn't much relief, but something is better than nothing... we'll be popping up a couple of those 10x10 tents for shade as well..

the best thing would be to meet offsite (like a mcdonalds) and caravan in. that way, you end up in a general area. Pick a place and a 20 minute window, then all who show up caravan up and go to a lot. I've got a 10x10 and a couple of coolers of ice and beer. I can also bring a table and food once we decide what we're doing.

bring what you like to drink brother... I'll probably bring a case of Lone Star Light and then maybe some Dales Pale Ale or some Southern Star brews as well..

FYI - regarding parking/location... my suggestion is to get to the yellow lot along S. Main/Murworth early and pick an area along Murworth or some other that has a little green space.. if we get there early enough this lot will be one of the last to fill up so we'll have our pick of spots and will be able to get late arrivers to still be able to get in the lot and park nearby... since we're talking about several different groups of people trying to get together that might make more sense because if say the tailgate is in the blue lot but others have to park in the yellow/green lots then you're not going to want to walk 2-3 blocks carrying a cooler of beer and food..

Thanks for contacting Reliant Park. Cash parking will be $20 per space in all lots on a first come basis. Guests should pay for each space they occupy tailgating. Parking gates will open at 10:30am.

I'm telling you dude, if you decide to bring your trailer then you'll need to buy that extra spot. If not a few of us should gather beforehand and enter at the same time. Just take up a few spots with space inbetween on the edges of a lot and we'll be fine.

When did they stop charging for meters on weekends? They started charging for metered spots on weekends a while back- late 2004 I believe. Very nice if they no longer do (I haven't lived in Houston in 5 years).

Dangit, you're right, I was thinking Sundays for Toxins games. Still might be cheaper in a surface lot and train than Reliant.

Parking meters are enforced Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except where posted signs indicate otherwise.

The train is a very good way to do it. I used to live downtown (above Flying Saucer) and had Texans season tickets. Having the train made it a whole new world of irresponsibility with not having to worry about driving, etc. For anyone who doesn't know, the Reliant train stop is on the opposite side of the stadium from the Yellow lot.

you can also park in the lot south of 610 on Fannin (behind Sam's Club) for about $10-$12 (I think) and ride the toy train for $1 each way. actually, I've never had them check for my return ticket after rodeos.....

Where do I park in order to ride MetroRail?
There are several parking lots on the train route. The closest to Reliant Stadium is the Fannin South lot located just outside of 610 South on West Bellfort. This lot provides 1,600 parking paces specifically for MetroRail use. The cost of parking here is only $8 per car. There are 24-hour attendants on duty. Also, free trams provide service from your vehicle to the rail station. The Bell Metro Rail stop between Clay and Leeland also offers convenient downtown parking with four adjacent parking lots.

no permit... cash lot only..

the blue lot is the permit lot which is why I suggest staying away from there... being in yellow will allow for more people to park nearby and come over with their own coolers etc... and yes, bring that grill just in case...

Latest weather: a dryline will (hopefully) be moving through Htown late Friday/early Saturday, so we'll have much lower humidity and temps, although still topping out in the low 90s. Tailgating from 10am-2pm should be in the 80s with low humidity. So, there's that.

I have upgrayedd to a E55 AMG, the 300 died a few years ago. It had 329,000 miles on it so it was due.
The E55 is slightly faster than the 300.

sweet... my group has already made plans on bringing some burger stuff, dogs, links, chips, salsa etc... and we'll have plenty of beer as well..
