So it starts in a few weeks. Thoughts?

I'm curious on the direction this goes with them already knowing Michael Scott will not be returning next season. Hopefully they do not do anything stupid to his character on his way out. With Holly returning in a big way, I'm sure his departure will have something to do with her. Maybe they pick up and move away and start a life and family together. I really doubt he will get fired or anything like that. Not after this long. And I'm sure he will appear in cameos in various episodes down the line.

They should probably have him leave by thinking he's quitting because he's so in love with Holly and leaving to start a new life, however he's actually being laid off and nobody can successfully get him to understand this or they just can't bring themselves to tell him. He walks out the door on his own terms (n his mind) with everybody back in the office just shaking their heads.

If they do this, it would definitely have to be the very last episode of the series. But they have already signed up for at least Season 8. I really can't see this show and writers doing that. This isn't a dark comedy.

I can't even see a car accident on the way to work in one of the last episodes and everyone visiting him in the hospital and he eventually passes.

Yeah right when they said Holly will have a big role, I know for a fact she will play a part in his departure. Like I said in my post, I think they move off somewhere and start a family together. Neither have kids. This makes the most sense.

If he was fired, the only cameos would be outside of work contact but that show really does not venture a lot outside the office. Or maybe they could promote him into a senior management position in corporate. And make a few cameos that way since corporate is not really show that often.

The Office is a great show, but I always wondered how it lasted 7 seasons.

The show was critically acclaimed, so is that why it's lasted this long? The show never got many viewers, only around 8 million or so. I suppose maybe the viewers it got in the coveted 18-49 age group is what saved it?

Just wondering, since a majority of shows that fall into that viewer category tend to get cancelled.

8 million is a lot for NBC. Especially taking in to account the fact that The Office has been up against established Thursday night juggernauts for a lot of its run (Grey's Anatomy, CSI, etc). It keeps the other NBC comedies afloat.

What about Michael moving to Nashua to take over the branch there and be with Holly? That way he's off the show, but still available for a cameo if the opportunity comes up.

i've seen rumors of Danny McBride, Murray from Flight of the Conchords, and most recently, Harvey Keitel... I was totally on board for either of the former, but when I heard Keitel i thought, "wow, that could really be a way to take the character of the scranton boss in an entirely new direction."

will be interesting to see where they go with it.

I think for years they either had her not wearing make-up or make-up that was intentionally unflattering (don't know enough about make-up to know) because she always looked considerably better in everything outside of The Office. Last season and last night they seem to have allowed her to show that she's actually quite attractive.
