Wyoming: Goals and Expectations

[The Missing Link]

Rushing Game:
I expect to see Tre starting and getting 50% of the carries. I expect to see him 6 yards deep before contact and carrying the safeties for another 2 or 3 yards. I want to see more FB and TE formations, but I do not expect to see that until Tech at the earliest. A good goal for this game would be 6 YPC with at least two carries of 20+.

Passing Game:
I expect our play calling to be more balanced this game. 45-50% of our plays should be passing. I want to see Gilbert throw downfield more and be more accurate in his second game. 65% completion and 10 YPA, with three passes going for 20+ yards. Additionally, 2 screens of 20+ yards. No dump-offs that lose yards.

Rush Defense:
Their running game sucks; our run defense should look like last year. Negative yards. No first downs and no touchdowns on the ground.

Pass Defense:
They throw the ball a lot, and they are decent at it. We should set our goals at 50% completion and 5 YPA, no passes over 20 yards, 6 sacks, 2 interceptions.

Other:
40 points, no turnovers, no injuries.
I expect someone to tell me why Cheyenne is in Laramie County and Laramie is in Albany County.

Originally Laramie and Cheyenne were both part of Laramie County. At some point, they split the county into two and named the new county containing Laramie Albany County. Go figure. When Wyoming was admitted into the Union in 1890 it had only five huge counties encompassing the whole state. Today it has only 23 counties.

If we score early touchdowns running the ball, this won't happen...Probably will just save it for Tceh...

I sincerely hope we open up the passing game a bit more, I want to see Quise get 10 or more touches. I want to see some sort of adjustment if Wyoming does the pooch kicks. I expect to see the defense ball outta control, and hold Wyoming in check. 38-10, maybe 38-13, final score.

- At least 2 td passes from GG.
- 1 rushing TD that isn't from <5 out.
- 1 back with 100 yards rushing (I can dream)
- 1 rush for 20+ yards
- 1 defensive turnover
- 2 sacks
- First downs by Wyoming limited to 10
- Limit Wyomings offensive scoring to under 14 points.
- 1 big special teams play.
- Every kickoff returned no further than 25 yard line.

If that happens, we'll have some solid progress.

Think about last week- minus the immaculate reception before half (which wasn't a TD, anyway), two easy pick sixes dropped, a 4th and goal squandered on a bad playcall and a fumbled punt inside 2 minutes left in the game which AJW could have just let go. That's like 55-3. Could anyone reasonably think much more or less about this team had that happened?

I'm with Mack- they didn't seem emotionally invested in the game and looked to be treating it as a live scrimmage. The deadening atmosphere of a domed NFL stadium had something to do with it as well. They'll struggle mightily if that's the case this week. No stat or score goals- I can tell sharp play without that crap. Get the W first, challenge GG with the playcalling 2nd.

*5+ yards per carry. If we're implementing a "better" running game, this is a very reasonable expectation IMO.
*More explosive plays. Please get the ball to Goodwin and Malcom more.

Defense:

*Not really worried here. I know they're going to sling it around and probably put together 3 or 4 good drives against us but holding them to single digits would be fantastic.
