What would we have to give up to get him?

I'm not opposed to getting him but he doesn't want to sign a contract extension here and Denver won't guarantee it and neither will he. He's going to play in New York with Amare. And why not? They are building a good, solid team there. It's in the biggest and most popular city in the country and the historic venue they play at. No brainer he's going.

I don't think he's what we need. All of the Denver teams he's played for never did $#@! in the playoffs except that 1 year.

The better Butler plays, the less I want to give up a lot to get a talent upgrade that could $#@! with chemistry. But if Melo aggreed to an extension, we'd be fools NOT to do it.

No thank you!! We have already given up too many draft picks over the years.

Melo does nothing for me. His teams have had one playoff run and that was 2 years ago. He's very soft on defense and so is Dirk and Kidd. Then we revert back to the Dallas teams when Nelson was here. And I do not want to give up Roddy B at all. And definitely not Chandler. Waaaay too much for Melo.

The problem is the Mavs don't have young talent like the Rangers do. If we give away Roddy B and draft picks the future looks $#@!ty. After this summer I don't trust Mark Cuban landing big time free agents.

This is my point. Melo is not coming back here next season. So if he does not help us win this year, it's a waste. and I really do not think he will take us far. He's not the player I would go after, especially not giving up what they are looking for. No way in hell. I agree. Let's see what this group can do. Maybe they can get to the Finals, maybe they will lose 1st round again. But I'd like to see what they can do. Why make a move when we are playing the best basketball in the NBA with one of the toughest SOS? The last time we made in season trades was in 08, when this team was playing like $#@! and Devin Harris was so inconsistent and they were going nowhere. And last season, which was the same deal. This team was going nowhere at all and needed some new bodies.

Yep. We would lose more losing those 3 or 4 players than we gain by Melo coming here. So I think it makes us worse. It's not really like the Cliff Lee deal when we really just gave up 1 player who was starting and he was sucking anyways.

I don't think the other top teams like Boston or SA is moving anybody, though SA defense is far from what it used to be and they have no center. But if they do, it would be to improve their benches.

Maybe I'm just naive, but isn't Melo known for taking a possession or 2 off on defense? Is his scoring going to make up for having 3 liabilities on the defensive end? Not sure about that.

Good thing the fans don't get to make that decision. LA would score a lot of points but they would be extremely thin at the 5 spot and lose a really good defender. Not sure the best idea is to start trading your championship team away.

Caron Butler was HUGE tonight. It was really eye opening to see them running the offense so well without Dirk on the floor in the fourth quarter. Also, Tyson Chandler is a freaking MONSTER. He completely dominated the paint tonight. Even though he only ended up with a "routine" 7 points and 10 rebounds, he had OKC flailing in the paint.

Dirk Nowitzki's knee injury isn't believed to be serious, although his owners probably aren't exhaling yet. The All-Star didn't return after being injured early in the second quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Nowitzki was fouled by Serge Ibaka on a shot attempt and landed awkwardly on his right knee. Though X-rays showed no damage and Mavericks officials said they didn't expect him to miss any significant time, Nowitzki revealed after the game that his knee had bothered him over the past couple of weeks.

I like the Bulls team, fun to watch, Rose is a beast and Boozer is a really nice addition (a healthy Noah is key) but they aren't the 3rd best team in the league....and last I checked the Mavs beat Miami twice already including on their home floor.

There really is no logic to that guy's system, it's always about margin-of-victory for this $#@!. I think his rankings are purely to start $#@! with people. According to his own system, the Bulls have a weaker SOS than the Mavs and are 5 games back record-wise but in the last 10 games their margin of victory is awesome!

Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki will skip Tuesday night's game against Toronto to rest his injured knee, and his status for Thursday's showdown with longtime rival San Antonio is uncertain. Nowitzki had an MRI exam on his right knee Tuesday morning that revealed a sprain, the team announced. The Mavericks listed him as day to day. Nowitzki told ESPN.com before undergoing the MRI that he didn't believe the knee sprain -- suffered in Monday night's victory at Oklahoma City when he landed awkwardly -- was serious.

"I'm not worried," Nowitzki said.

I know the Spurs game is a big game, but I think I would still prefer Dirk to rest and just come back at 100% next week if that's what he needs. In the big picture, this game on Thursday is not that big of a deal. We need Dirk ready to go the rest of the season.

For real. Games in December do not matter at all come April and May in the playoffs. This team has proven it can win on the road. Hell they actually play better on the road than at home. And if we play the Spurs, home court is usually not a big factor in the playoffs.

Popovich has the system down right for the Spurs over the years. Coast along early on, and turn up the heat towards the end.

Bring Dirk back when he's ready to go.
