I believe you meant to say "Not our standard."
Finally clicked on this thread.
Let's give it a few weeks/months for the hoopla to die down, then get 4-5 guys with huge pickups with brush guards and go to town. I can get at least 2 pickups down there, along with some sledgehammers. I'm thinking 5-10 minutes tops.
Where is V when you need him?
I'm pretty sure that "they were horrible things and needed to be destroyed" is a valid legal defense.
I pray that someone shows Colt *his* statue this weekend... and *HE* personally kicks the sh*t out of whoever did this...
Not only are they a one-size-fits-all face/expression/pose, but even the lettering/numbering are wrong (outlined, really?). Did *NO ONE* think to provide a picture to the "artist"?
how is it that the powers that be haven't done anything about this yet? seriously -- i mean, why not hire those professionals who work at the wax museums? there are some serious talent there, and i'm sure they'd appreciate getting the work and the money...
I actually got a response from Mr. Mitchell and am a little impressed:
Dear Mr. Wallace:
I am sorry you feel the way you do about the statues. Each of the athletes was sent a picture of the statue as well as their statistics for approval or to make changes. We only had two comments and they were regarding the statistics.
Ricky Williams’ sister was excited to see the statue on Saturday and had her picture taken and emailed it to Ricky. We have hundreds of people each day having their pictures taken alongside the statues.
There will be a sign as you enter the park to explain that the statues are not meant to look like the athletes. The sign will be up next week. The athletes chosen have won national awards or had their numbers retired.
As far as composition of our Board of Directors, it consists of 4 faculty members who serve a 4-year term and are appointed by the President. We have 4 students who serve a 2-year term and are elected during a Student Government election. We use this process rather than having our own election.
We appreciate your concerns and hope that you will continue to be a loyal Co-op patron.
these statues, particularly the football ones, seem more like tributes to our opponents and the fear that they struck in the faces of our players. so for that, kudos to the orchestrators of this magnificent plan! you are giants among pygmies, mammoths among midgets, titans among the tiny. YOU. ARE. MY. HEROES.
why.... um.... why do they all have terrified expressions?
fifhthere will be a sign as you enter the park to explain that the statues are not meant to look like the athletes...or even remotely resemble the traditional and nationally recognized uniforms worn by our athletic teams
"That's not Colt Mccoy. It's just a white guy, wearing #12, in a darker, NOT BURNT, orange jersey. There's no nike, no longhorns, no name on the back. It's not Colt! Leave us alone to count our money."
Can we add a "$#@!can the Statues!" banner to the GD plane?
"There will be a sign as you enter the park to explain that the statues are not meant to look like the athletes."
I dunno, this one looks a lot like Gilbert this year:
once again vandalism is our only avenue
I have to disagree with just about everyone. The artist is a genius - almost like they took a photograph and made it a beautiful sculpture. Please don't take these statues down.
the statues reminded me of this..
That is the worst display of 'art' I've ever seen....if you can call it that.
these statues would have been great in my yard haunt for Halloween...
The facial expression on Colt makes it seem as if he just jizzed in his pants.
In all seriousness.........and I know that many on here have a big problem with the Greek community on Campus.......but I was in one of the "upper tier" frats in the mid-80's, and there is no doubt that after a couple of hours of planning, our pledge class could have burned those things down in short order. And we very likely wouldn't have even been caught.
So we need at "Tier 1" frat to challenge its pledge class to do just that.....burn them down. Sure, they've got video cameras to deal with, but they ought to be able to handle that. All it takes is some Coleman camp fuel, a box of matches, and a dozen or so sober guys dressed in black.
Aside from the fact that they looked like mustard (or coal) colored cross eyed freaks, could they at least have gotten the uniform right? And why no Longhorn on the helmet? What's the big no-no there?
Hey George Mitchell.... these statues aren't meant to resemble the athletes? And the uniforms aren't supposed to look, um, real? And TJ Ford and Kevin Durant are supposed to be the same height? And they're supposed to all have terrified looks on their faces?
I think it's funny that he can actually say all that and come across as sincere.
Definitely agree with the guy who said that a pledge class needs to get busy on those things.
