Sunbelt Conference = SEC's shady meth-dealing cousins.
Guess I better go buy some TXST branded jorts and crocs.
pretty darn good baseball conference actually. 3 bids last year, 3 the year before, 2 bids each the 2 years before that. better than the slc and wac combined over the same 4 yr period.
The league is a bit down this year (only 1-bid likely right now) but WKU, Troy, FAU, ULA, MTSU all have had solid programs in recent years.
Definite upgrade from the SLC...UTA & Texas St will make it that much stronger.
Just got an email about streaming video of press conference for "special announcement" tomorrow at 10 a.m. Wonder if they'll play the Price is Right sad trombone effect when they unveil the banners that read "Sunbelt Conference"

Add Lamar and Georgia Southern for a 12 team football league. and i think that would be a good league for the Bobcats
georgia southern and appalachian state are the other two schools believed to be filling out the conference. it's not a good league for us. on the field, maybe. but selling these schools and these towns to our fans? the ones we're trying to win over and bring back to san marcos to fill our new big stadium w/ season tickets; the ones that go to ut games w/o a second thought, but have never been to a bobcat game since they left - and maybe ever; those people will never come to see us play florida atlantic or middle tennessee state or louisiana-monroe. it's the southland all over again - a bunch of directional u that nobody knows anything about. new mexico state and idaho may not be great programs, but they are name schools - a U of ___________ or a ____________ state u. i'm very, very worried that this move will kill everything we've worked for the last couple of years. i definitely haz a sad.
divisions thought to look like this
Is the FCS going to die as a result of non-AQ BCS conferences picking up all these FCS teams, or will it just become much much smaller?
Lafayette trips would be fun.
Per the presser the Sunbelt will be at 12 football teams for 2013. Looks like 2 more schools are coming
Not cool man... Not like the current state of the WAC was great but the Sunbelt Conference is all directional schools and crap that TxState was trying to away from. Directional schools in $#@!ty states at that. The school names remind me of Hank Jr. song.
As long as we get some games on TV, I'll be excite.
Source: New Mexico State a potential target of expanding Sun Belt with quality bball and baseball programs
looks like Idaho wont be joining the party though
Meanwhile, difficult to see a future for Idaho that doesn't involve move to FCS.

i've heard that those 2 games are going to be on the LHN
first commit in:
qb tyler jones
Stephenville High School has produced its share of Division I quarterbacks, such as notable names Kevin Kolb and Jevan Snead. Head coach Joe Gillespie said rising senior Tyler Jones knows what it takes to lead a team with tradition.
"Stephenville has been one of those places where, fortunately we've been able to produce some pretty good quarterbacks, and Tyler Jones has grown up here, so he understands what all that entails," Gillespie said.
Jones has received an offer from Texas State, with interest from Houston, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, TCU and Texas Tech.
The Horned Frog coaches have been the newest arrivals on Jones' recruiting trail.
TCU coach Chad Glasgow visited Stephenville, was impressed by Jones and invited him to TCU's camp in early June to see him up close. This could be partly to get a better look at his unorthodox throwing motion.
"There's some different things that we won't mess that I'm sure some colleges will try to change a bit and some won't," Gillespie said. "Some have questions a little bit about his throwing motion. I'm not saying that it's bad. It's just different."
Gillespie added that Jones has quick release and throws an accurate ball both short and long, but that his most important attribute is his leadership.
"The quarterback carries a very heavy title, much like a coach, almost like a head coach because that ball is touching your hands every play," Gillespie said.
"There's ten other guys looking at you in the huddle and you're going to have to be a tremendous leader, on, off the field, in the locker room, in the community, every aspect of it."
The Stephenville community became accustomed to long playoff runs and state championships in the 1990s under current Baylor head coach Art Briles.
Jones and receiver Brice Gunter, another college prospect getting some looks, will set out in August to bring the Yellow Jackets their first state title since 1999.
Jones will attend Texas State's camp this summer, as well as TCU and likely Baylor. Gillespie said Jones would go to others, but has not decided on which ones yet.
As a junior, Jones threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 24 TDs with just 10 INTs. He also ran for four TDs and managed 671 rushing yards, averaging nearly five yards per carry.
Quality get for No. 2. QB commit Tyler Jones' Stephenville teammate WR Brice Gunter committed yesterday evening.
6'3 190. Not overly fast but has good size, finds space in a crowd and has great hands. Rivals only has him rated as a 2-star, but ESPN has him rated an 83/100 4-star prospect and he's no. 173 in their Top 300.
Gunter is just now starting to get some attention. He was more or less completely unheard of until his junior season last year. As of today, only has offers from Air Force and TXST, but I will imagine that will change before too long. Solid pickup if we manage to hold his interest all the way until February.
Gunter will end up at a better school. Both are best friends so it was that kind of thing at this point.
Story from the local Stephenville website:
http://www.yourstephenvilletx.com/sp...a4bcf887a.htmlStephenville has had two incoming seniors issue verbal declarations, and Texas State has two commitments for its 2013 recruiting class.
It's no coincidence.
With wide receiver Brice Gunter issuing a verbal commitment to the Bobcats Wednesday, both Texas State commits are Yellow Jackets. Quarterback Tyler Jones verbally declared his intentions of playing for Texas State on Tuesday.
"It's not like we really planned on going to the same place, it just sort of happened the same way for both of us," said Gunter. "I visited Texas State at the same time as Tyler, then they offered us both. We knew the option of going together was there, then after I talked to (Stephenville head coach Joe Gillespie), we both thought it was the right thing for me to do. It wasn't planned so much as it was just fate, I think, that we ended up going to the same place."
Gunter became interested in Texas State for many of the same reasons as Jones.
"Everybody there is so excited. School was out when we were there, but the campus was still buzzing because everyone's so hyped up about the new season," said Gunter.
Texas State is leaving the Southland Conference and the Football Championship Subdivision this fall to join the Western Athletic Conference in the Football Bowl Subdivision, the highest level of college football. The Bobcats, directed by head coach Dennis Franchione, went 6-6 in their final season in FCS.
"To go there and help them get established and have some success at that level would be great," he said. "That's something that really stood out to me."
Gunter was Jones' favorite target when the two were juniors last fall. The 6-3, 185-pound receiver hauled in 69 catches for 1,099 yards and 15 touchdowns. They have already connected for more scores than that in this summer's 7-on-7 play, in which Stephenville is a perfect 15-0 and has already punched a ticket to the July 19 state tournament at Texas A&M.

god dammit. i've been dreading that hitting this site. neg rep dirtburglar.
edit - i should neg rep stf for quoting the stupid thing too.
First let me say, I $#@!ing hate you USAOROTC.
Second, let me say that this shirt was met with nothing but negative comments by fellow Bobcats. I am sure some stupid $#@!ing idiot will be sporting this shirt but to say that we are embarrassed by it is an understatement.
Edit: USAOROTC, you are a sooner? Do you happen to go by EDDYTXST on rivals? If so, you $#@!ing suck $#@! and if not, you should really be embarrassed by that piece of $#@!.

hawk has a special place in hell reserved for eddy. rotc is good people, aside from his latest shenanigans.
$#@!, just saw the thread on BR about Justin Albritton tearing his ACL. Not how I wanted to start my Friday.
yeah, that sucks. same one as last year as well.
on a bright note, fran made the cover of dctf:
Nothing is as wonderful as hearing one of your best recruits won't play football for your team first thing in the morning.
Adrian Bellard is officially a Bobcat!
My tweeter feed is blowing up with the SMDR Texas State reporter saying Texas Tech is pissed about the game potentially being shown on the LHN, and is threatening to drop the game. Seens they would rather play an 11 game schedule and pay a 200k buyout than be on the LHN.
if teis is angling for the lhn, i will actively fight every single thing they are doing.
