It was only a matter of time until it turned to a PC/Console pissing match.
Russian Battlefield fansites battlefieldbc.ru and bf3.com.ua recently held an interview with Russian Battlefield Community Manager Eugene Olenev.

I'm aware it is 3rd party. It is just for mapping the console controller to a keyboard and mouse. I'm not sure what limitations you are referring to though. Obviously you can't bind commands that do not exist in the game, but other than that, you can bind all the controller buttons to the keyboard and mouse.
The smart translators are supposed to assist with that. The advertising boasts being able to help overcome the console controller limitations. Whether it actually does or not is anyone's guess.
Screenshots:More Battlefield 3 Battlelog details emerge
EA and DICE have released more details on Battlefield 3's Battlelog.
They come fresh from the fingers of Fredrick Loving (kudos on the name), Battlelog producer at DICE.
The 'Battlefeed' will be your main window into Battlelog, showing current events around your network in real-time, explains the Battlelog rundown.
It will give you a live snapshot of what those in your network are doing in the world of Battlefield.
"The feed will encourage people to play even more," adds Loving. "They will see their friends ranking up, receiving awards they don't have yet, or getting the new cool guns they have been missing. It will increase the competitive edge. Everything you do on the battlefield is shared amongst your friends."
You'll be able to see when a friend unlocks a particularly difficult achievement and offer them kudos, the description continues on the Battlefield Blog.
"Another pal just joined a multiplayer Rush match in Operation Métro and is looking for some help - now you know, so you can quickly jump in and give them a hand."
"If someone just nabbed your dog tag in multiplayer, they can shoot you a quick note to say thanks (or, more likely, use those newly anointed bragging rights). It's all here in the real-time feed for you to share, comment and like."
A fully-featured soldier progression section is also included, bringing full stats tracking for every shot fired and every action performed in your Battlefield career.
"Battlefield players love their statistics," says Loving. "Now we will give them everything that they want while adding a social layer on top of that."

So it's basically the old Battletracker site from BF2 and Americas Army days but fully incorporated. nice, loved being able to see my name in the top 10 all time scores on Kubra Dam. just checked and now my 453 score is still ranked #71 all time there.
that's what helped make BF2 last so danged long, they (DICE/EA and the community) created such a deep stat tracking utility that let everyone form a strong community. not like some games where the community splinters every which way. it was great being able to easily see what your clanmates were doing and where they were. weapon by weapon, vehicle by vehicle, rank by rank and award by award.
not to mention the ranking system was nice and difficult. hell I played 254 hours of BF2 and only made 1st Sergeant and was 60% of the way to Sergeant Major.
my lord. between this and forza 4 im not sure what im going to do with myself in october.
I can't wait for this one..I didn't pick up CoD: Black Ops and probably won't pick up Modern Warfare 3 this year as well. I will be juggling this one and Forza 4.
Just getting ready!
Gonna keep the 5850 I have in there already for video card.
A couple of Alpha vids showing the weapon customizations (only the ones available in Alpha). WARNING: The guy doing these videos may be the most boring person in the world.

I'm honestly not TOO impressed with BF3 at this stage as it seems more like BF:BC3 than a true BF game, but I must say that FrostEd is simply spectacular - Easily the best terrain-based editor I've used to date!
Anyone see this?
Battlefield 3 has 'years worth' of unlockables
Battlefield 3 will have enough rewards and unlockables to provide years worth of content, EA has revealed on the Battleblog.
"Battlefield players are among the most loyal out there," wrote Valerian Noghin, one of the persistence designers on Battlefield 3. "Our games are literally played for years by our hardcore fans, and we want to actively support that. There should always be something left to achieve in Battlefield 3."
Battlefield 3 boasts 10 times more hardware unlocks than Bad Company 2, spread over weapons, weapon attachments, and gadgets.
Ribbons will be awarded for skill-based challenges. This might include capturing a set number of bases in a single round, keeping a vehicle in mint condition or reviving fallen comrades.
"There are a large number of ranks in Battlefield 3, similar to Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Your rank badge is a quick measure of your overall progress in the game. And even if you hit the max rank, there is always more glory to strive for with the new concept of Service Stars that we are introducing in Battlefield 3."
"Even getting your first Service Star would be a major achievement. But keep playing, and you will be eligible for even further promotion by getting Service Stars added to your weapon skill badge, your vehicle, your kit, and your overall rank. Anytime your kill card is displayed, everyone will see exactly how experienced you are with your current equipment. The ultimate bragging right would be for a player to be awarded the rank of Colonel with 100 Service Stars attached, and to have 100 stars in all weapons, kits, and vehicles. Getting there will be a massive task – consider that a challenge!"
It's pretty much like BF2. I put over 250hrs of game time in and still was only a 1st sergeant with bursting bomb. Wasn't even close to some ribbons and medals in the game still
Jets, Helicopters Tanks oh my!
1080 full screen this video of game play on Caspian Border map
Holy $#@! just that air combat looks awesome.
*drool*
The Back to Karkand pack looks pretty well thought out. I know that Wake Island is kinda the given to make an appearance in every Battlefield game but it is still fun. karkand is what it is, way over played but it was well thought out in design. Sharqi and Oman were great as well, Oman was so much fun when full. Think I got like 75% of my Stinger kills at the coastline stinger emplacement. Sharqi was fun assaulting the hotel.
this really makes me want to reinstall BF2 for a walk down memory lane... despite all the hackers and crap that will be going on.
That video is epic - Can't wait for some massive vehicle battles!
I really hope a FrostEd SDK gets released. Would love to mess around with it. I'm stuck using Unreal and Unity right now.
BTW, I have a new shooter coming out in October for iOS. If you want it, I'll gift it to you when it's available.
Keep up the good work.
Oh, and the above offer stands for anyone on this board with an iOS device (iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad) that wants it.

Yeah, I loved all those other maps you mention as well. I imagine there would be teammates parking jeeps in the runways and people trying to get run over by friendly planes/choppers so they could punish you for teamkills. I wouldn't worry so much about the hackers since you could just get an admin to ban them.
Anyone getting it on PS3 and is a Battlefield vet, let me know... don't have the funds to upgrade my PC. Maybe by December.
This list of weapons, vehicles, and features just released...

Already said I'd be in. All for vent. Let's kick some Russian ass.
I would like to be in for the epicness that a shaggy clan would be. I only hope I have enough money to spare once it comes out to get it and my laptop performs adequately.
awesome they are finally reincorporating the SOFLAM and guided missile that was eventually scrapped from BF2. that will be great to be able to paint a target for added lethality with the Hornet or Warthog.
also nice that they will be using the Marines 1Y Venom rather than the blackhawks from BF2. still haven't seen any good video of the 1Whiskey Super Cobra, although it will probably be the same as before. was hoping they'd give us the 1zulu Viper this go round but eh.
super pumped with that list that was provided above.
