Yes, I guess it could be worse. We've been promised these new, young recruiting firebrands like Diaz were going to put an end to lazy recruiting evaluation. Hopefully Diaz excels at coaching up the kind of marginally talented linebackers that bring Mack comfort.
Here's Tipsy's take on that:
One outlier that may be in play is Mario Edwards and how the De La Torre commitment might affect his decision. If you look at this logically, I would say not at all. Edwards has known for a long time in all likelihood that DLT was going to be an offer and commit and yet our status still slipped even before Muschamp left. On the flipside, if DLT was key to Edwards’ commitment, Jimbo Fisher would be interested in DLT too.
I listened to a handful of Ryan HS games during this season. If Mario Edwards name wasn't being called, it was De La Torre's.
So because someone said this^ means that DLT isn't going to be recruiting him for us for the next year? I'm not saying that because we got DLT we are a lock for Edwards but it can't hurt, right? Plus, DLT's dad is a coach at Denton Ryan so that has got to help too, maybe not so much for Edwards but it will pay off in the long run. The only reason Jimbo is even in the hunt for Edwards is because of Edwards' dad.
The guy is at 220lbs and he's the son of not only football factory's head coach, but he's the son of a former NFL player. He's got good instincts and solid athletic ability. The team needs LBs and he'll be a decent 4th or 5th guy in the rotation as a Junior or Senior.
He had offers from over 20 schools including a number of them in the SEC. They didn't want to do any hype and they're not going to waffle. He's not Taylor Doyle or Blake Gideon. Probably not Jaxson Shipley either though. I'll take it and I'd be violent otherwise.
We could have gotten him 8 months from now. That's my problem with him. I'm going to laugh hysterically with a knife on my wrists if somehow this pans out to not being able to give a scholly to someone like Nance because were "full up at LB."

Exactamundo. Go after some national guys, wait to see if anyone explodes during senior year, and if those options bear nothing only then steal him from SMU in December.
I've seen him. He was all over the field. Agree with an above poster, if you weren't hearing Edwards' name, you were hearing DLT's. Frankly, right now, I would trust pretty much any recruit coming out of the Denton ISD. Ryan and Guyer just seem to be football factories right now.
Well, within hours of DLT committing Mario Edwards shows up in Austin.
