I just got through doing taxes for our household today.
I am steaming mad because I made the mistake of running the numbers to see what a Married Filing Jointly Return would look like.
For reference, I have to pay $1460 to those $#@!s over and above the ~$18k they already took out of my check last year. The boyfriend is getting a $1200 refund.
If we were to file jointly, instead of a net loss of $260 we'd instead be looking at a $4k+ refund!?! WTF?!?
Filing jointly, I can write off student loan interest. I can't do that solo. Filing jointly, I get a Making Work Pay credit. I don't get that solo.
God dammit, it really pisses me off to have to pay more to have less $#@!ing rights.
Of course, that's just money. We wouldn't be in immigration limbo either if there was no DOMA.
And of course, our problems are pretty trivial compared to this couple:
