Oh yes I love me some Jenkees, he's pretty sick on the keyboard and thought he was self taught?
Last time I saw the Mau5 was at the Music Hall, and his openers (all like 5 of them) were mostly jamming out some screechy Dubstep. It was almost comical watching some people dance to it. I can appreciate it as a new style of electronica, and think a lot of people fail to realize how much it has penetrated the mainstream...I mean look at the soundtrack for the Tron remake.
Regarding FruityLoops I think that's a key element of my appreciation for Deadmau5. He's always been an advocate of making your own sounds, hounding on people who use the default voices in synth tools...can spot them a mile away. I've always been a huge fan of the early analog engineering work by Floyd/Parsons, as in "we have to loop this 8' piece of tape without digital loops, so let's run it outside the tape machine around a mic stand" or "I'll just double track my own guitar work." Joel tends to take his digital voices and run them through a stack of analog equipment to get that fat bassline, gotta love it.
