Shielding + Vortex + Fire Chains + Fast
Shielding + Vortex + Fire Chains + Fast
Just hit 60, thank god you don't lose valor on death. If you want to level from 58 to 60 pretty fast just kill Zoltun Kulle over and over. It takes about 40 minutes from 59-60 if you can kill him pretty fast (95,000xp per run and 2000 or so gold).

What's up with these insane Auction House postings that people are supposedly bidding on? Hacks? I saw an example of a legendary item being posted for 1 billion and someone had a 900,000,000 bid on it. Wtf?
And have you guys had any luck recently with finding legendary items? I'm up to two total, but I've put in like 70 hours...
I've been able to stack MF to about 140% with some crap gear. And when that's combined with the 5 stack Nephalem (additional 75% magic find) I consistently get rares (and about 2-3 per boss). A buddy of mine was able to find a green legendary two days ago on an Act 4 Inferno run. That's worth about 20 million easily...
Hit Inferno last night and it kicked me pretty hard. Didn't have to die but when one zombie hit drains 90% of my life I can figure out that my WD is not ready for the big time.
So far I haven't ventured in to the auction house and have spent money on leveling blacksmith/gem upgrades. For inferno people, can you farm act1 inferno/late hell for good enough inferno gear or is auction house the only viable way? What kind of damage should I be dealing in inferno to be effective? My base is ~9.5k and with a full soul harvest the yellow number that pops up (assuming this is damage) when i connect with dire bats is ~30-35k.
I believe you're telling about critical hit damage.
Anyone know the long term plan for the level limit? I have to think that it will be raised through patches/expansion but if they wait too long I'll probably lose interest in the game.
The AH is starting to stabilize somewhat. People have been "bro pricing" since release, and it's now becoming apparant that people will no longer overpay just to be the first with a given set/legendary. I expect prices on premium items to plummet.
Here's the set up I run to farm act 1:
Because bears and bats are both mana intensive spells, it's better to run a 2 hander with them or a slower 1 hander because you get higher damage and less casting speed. This will help keep you from running out of mana compared to running with a dagger or ceremonial knife and offhand. The name of the game with a bears/bats build is kill them before they kill you, hence the longer duration spirit walk and spirit vessel for its invulnerability. Basically my strategy against nonmortar elites is pop all 4 cooldowns at once, and immediately bear rush while waiting for spirit walk to come back. With the mana regenerating big bad voodoo totem and vision quest, you have a window of ~20 seconds to pump out as many bears as you can while you have basically infinite mana, and the resulting dps in that 20 second window is astronomical.
Here is an alternative build, for kiting and elite packs in act 2+:
This build is dependent upon attack speed, first and foremost. Get all you can from everywhere you can; rings, amulet, hands, wrists, and weapons all can have +att speed% on them. Start by looking for sub-60 blues with +att speed% and +intelligence, these tend to be cheaper than lvl 60 blues or yellows. Your weapon must be a dagger of at least 1.50 att/s speed, preferably 1.75+ att/s. Normal daggers are 1.50, they have to have +spd on them to get the higher numbers. You want to be in the 2.5 att/s range for this build, so you'll need all the +spd you can get. After you get that gear, it's all about using the abilities you have available to kite and control the mobs at hand. You have to be able to do this for act 2 inferno, you simply can't survive in a bear build. Bats could be feasible with appropriate resists (probably +700 by the end of the act), but losing too much +speed and weapon speed with a 2 hander for a bats build would make it much harder to kite. The beauty of the poison dart splinters build is in how much you can move while still attacking, which is absolutely key to soloing past act 1 in inferno as a WD.
Sorry for the wall of text and this post may have caused more confusion by rambling, but ask away.
Just found my first legendary item from a corpse in NM Act 1. Bracers with some resist all.
I found 2 yesterday within 2 hours. Up to 5 now.
So when Blizzard restores your account, it's approximate. I'm just now back to where I was pre restore.
So after you guys beat this game you just constantly make runs over and over to get crap to sell for fake money to buy more crap? Seems like a chore. If you can beat the game why spend so much time and effort finding new crap?
I don't get it.
And when i've made it to act IV inferno, I'm going to roll a hardcore character and do it again.
Read the patch notes and wish I didn't spend the time and money to level the blacksmith/jeweler.
1. There are four difficulty levels and the last one is murder on most characters. I'm in the last difficulty and finding it hard to make much progress. Not sure if I will still enjoy my current character if/when I finish the last difficulty.
2. You share a stash between all your characters so any items you find for different classes you can save for when you start that character.
3. There is a real money auction house (not live yet, been delayed a few times) so you can sell for real money not just fake in theory. Blizzard takes a healthy (15%) cut if you want to transfer to PayPal for cash but if someone wants to pay real money for virtual items you can get some cash.
4. I'm cheap and having fun. I get altogether too much enjoyment out of playing the $60 game and realizing how little per hour I'm paying to be entertained. Around here a movie ticket to the nice theater goes for $10 so I could see 6 movies without buying snacks or drinks and get 9-12 hours of entertainment total. I've played the game way more than 12 hours and still having fun.
I'm only in nightmare and I've already gotten more then my money's worth.
I've stopped playing my monk for now. Started a SC witch doctor and have him at level 33 so far. I like him a lot. Loads more fun than the monk.
With the 1.0.3 patch they are nerfing increased attack speed benefit and repair costs. Repair costs are expected to go up 4x to 6x. So if you find any good gear that is indestructible, hold on to it as I expect the cost to sky rocket with the next patch.
If you've been basing your build on the life on hit, increased attack speed combination, start expecting to adjust.
Ridiculous gold dupe out right now. Asian servers apparently got a 24hr rollback.
Player A puts item up on AH
Player B buys item
Player A takes out the gold from that transaction
Player B turns back the clock on his desktop by 2 days
Player B will get back the money he spent on the item, and player A will also have the money that was originally paid, thus duping the gold.
I don't get to play much so my Witch Doctor is up to level 25 and I just killed Kulle. However, I'm getting bored of clickclickclickclick. Does the gameplay get any more compelling? And the abilities I get seem kinda useless (e.g., giant toad).
RMAH appears to be live. High prices for meh gear so far.
Chult looks like he could put his wand up for about $85. Not bad.
But I doubt many will buy at the current prices.
$#@! is selling, and quick too. Couple of guys I play with have each sold around 550$ so far.
im finally starting to figure out the game.. much better at it now.
the real money auction house has me absolutely intrigued. this is breathing a new life into the game and actually gives me a reason to keep playing after you get to 60.
make. dat. paper.
yeah, i wont hate on anyone using the rmah, but i definitely wont be. i understand why blizzard did it, but i dont think it was the right thing to do. combining that with the always online and other issues, ill probably be weening off of this game in the coming days and weeks. although, i've definitely got my money's worth so far
People were going to be selling stuff online with or without Blizzard.
The auction house REALLY drives this game. I've been spending ALL of my gold on getting my slots in my bank, or whatever it's called. I finally got all 3 tabs full of rares, gold items, so I decided to throw them on the AH. Two days later, I'm 300k richer by just putting everything starting at 10k and ending at 100k, no problem.
I've been going through Nightmare and it's SO $#@!ing boring. I have to kite so long and far with my DH to kill $#@!. I've been spending time doing other things. Tonight I hop on the AH and try to price my items better. Well come to find out I'm using Lvl 13ish req items at Lvl 37 because I just haven't had the luck to drop things that are significantly better. I dropped 200k on the AH tonight on items that literally have 5-6x the stats of my current gear. What a joke. Can't wait to see how this gear changes my damage output and how much easier this mode becomes after this.
with that said, the cheating was rampant in D2 and really hurt the economy/game itself. obviously, blizzard had to do something about it, but i would have liked it better if they would have made more efforts to prevent it from happening, rather than making a business out of it. i'm really not sure what more else they could have done, and i don't necessarily fault them for trying to make money, but i don't like the precedent it will set for future games.
Again, the RMAH and always online thing do not go hand in hand in my eyes.

Micro trans is part of a lot of games already and going to become prevalent in more. Some people don't like the concept of paying for virtual things, but isn't that what most software is?
My only problem with the RMAH is the fact that it exaggerates the "want" to cheat. When you can dupe 1 billion gold and then sell it for real money before blizz can do anything about it, that's a problem. Blizz taking a cut means they also have no real incentive to stop this in any timely fashion, because they're making money off of you making money by cheating their game. Very very slippery slope, indeed.
Just started hell difficulty. $#@! got real.
Anybody with a level 60 monk: What's your build? I'm guessing that I need to go with a more defensive build than I have right now.
Y'all really have no idea what you are talking about, at all. I really don't even think you understand the vocabulary you are using such as "dupe-ing." It's actually fairly amazing how clueless the general public is on these issues despite them being horribly prevalent for decades, yes decades. I've worked in this industry for a few years and understand the ins and outs. There's honestly too much miss-information for me to correct it all in the last few pages. But feel free to ask a few, pointed questions and I'll do my best to answer with all the facts I have.
duping, short for duplicating, is a term commonly referring to creating an identical copy of an item in a video game such as Diablo. whether that item is a weapon or a stack of gold is irrelevant. someone has already posted a method that people had been using to dupe gold. please feel free to elaborate on all this information you need to correct.
Act II Hell now. WD just mowing down folks with VQ and zomGbears
You didn't pose a question. You provided a rhetorical definition of duplicating which obviously refers to the duplication of items or currency. It's the method that's important and the consequences of said method. What happened on the Asian servers is meaningless. A script will be ran to identify those that participated, action their respective accounts, and remove the dupes. It's not a relevant issue. All new games have exploits that are discovered and consequentially exploited. Blizzard has been very good since WoW to develop scripts to identify, action, and remove gains from exploiters.
I find the RMAH interesting from an economics standpoint. You could write a dissertation on it as it evolve--inflation pressure, market corrections, supply vs. demand. How much money comes into and stays in the economy vs. how much leaves through paypal.
I get that it's a slippery slope, but it's new and interesting. I like it.
