I think I knew Joe the best out of anyone here.
I met him back in 2002. I had talked to him on HF a few times and he and the family came to town for the baseball Regional that included Baylor.
JE Mojica and Snoop Dogg were not his only screen names on HF. He had a couple others.
He had some major disagreements with LHG. He had some disagreements with some other posters as well later. I can't say I know every detail, but he had talked to me about some things he had heard and witnessed re: the admin over there.
He would definitely bait LHG at times. She hated his guts from what he showed and told me. But it's hard to come out with any details about what he had to say when she was at least nice enough to allow the threads about him and his fundraiser to be posted.
I'm still in the dumps about his death, and especially Jeanie. I still carry a picture in my wallet of them both that I printed out.
Other than that meeting at the baseball game, I hung out with his family when they were living in an apartment off Woodland. I helped them move into that apartment when they finally got back to Austin. I watched Chance Wheeless's homer vs. Baylor in the CWS there. They moved out to Taylor, and I helped a little with that move. I went out there a few times to hang out. Went and picked him up with his 3 kids and drove them to Austin so Joe could buy a new cymbal for his drums. I remember carrying Jeanie in b/c she forgot her shoes and the parking lot was wet.
When he got sick last March, his wife called me and said he had been in the hospital in very bad shape for a week and no one had come to see him. She said he'd love it if I did. So I drove out there to see him. He was in really bad shape. He was in and out, but I think he remembered me coming. I ended up being the only one to visit.
He then got better and on new meds. I told him I'd take him to Lockhart for BBQ, just the two of us. It was great. Picked him up in Round Rock and we took the trip down there. He met my mom when we went by my home (I had to pick up some food she made for a party at my work). He wanted to meet up and trade recipes with her someday.
That was the last day I saw him and Jeanie. I saw her when I dropped him off at Petsmart. She was looking at the dogs for sale and told me how her birthday was coming up soon. I was wondering what to get her since she loved the Dora the Explorer backpack I got her before. :)
I deal with grief by not thinking about it. So when y'all trigger it, I have to unload on you. Sorry.
