weedwacker just took a significant step in his growth as ranger fan last night. telling angels fans to gfy is one thing, but in w virginia is double bonus.

and spy it should be noted that your boy gentry is 0-1 in SBs this spring. if he can't run, he's $#@!ing worthless. stolen bases holler.

my son's first game of the spring is tonight. bart scott.

And my scapegoat for every season remains Wash.

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Josh Hamilton started in left field on Thursday afternoon against the Cubs. It was his eighth start in left as opposed to four in center and one at designated hitter.

There is still a possibility that he could get more playing time in center field during the season, but the Rangers haven't made that decision yet. Hamilton, like everybody else, is waiting for the Rangers to make a decision on the position. But manager Ron Washington said they haven't come to that point yet.

"I just want to be prepared," Hamilton said. "I want the opportunity to play center so I can get my legs under me out there. If I do start the season in center, I don't want to spent the first one and a half to two weeks getting my legs under me."

Hamilton was in left for the first game of the split-squad doubleheader. Craig Gentry started in center and Julio Borbon was in center for the night game against the Reds. Those two are competing for the center-field job, and Borbon has had the best spring. But the Rangers are still looking hard at Gentry and the possibility exists that both could make the team.

If Hamilton plays center, that allows the Rangers to get David Murphy into the lineup, and he went into Thursday's games hitting .387 for the spring with a .412 on-base percentage and a .548 slugging percentage.

"All I know is David Murphy is going to be on the team and David Murphy is going to play," Washington said.

Murphy has been hotter than Hamilton, who went 1-for-4 against Cubs pitcher Matt Garza on Thursday and is 6-for-34 (.176) on the spring. His only extra-base hit has been a double.

"I still feel good," Hamilton said. "Today is the best that I have felt as far as my power being back to where it needs to be," Hamilton said. "I'm just trying to eliminate the bigger movements in my swing and keep it simple. The last 10 days are the most important in trying to figure it out and get the timing where it needs to be."
    tl;dr version is:

prepare your anus because julio borbon, not judy or other derogatory names, is going to be playing some CF for your Texas Rangers this year since Craig Gentry can't take care of bidness. and david murphy just took another step toward the HOF with a stellar spring.

So Chamberlain is out for the year. Yanks weren't counting on him until midseason anyway, but it is nice they don't have him coming back at all. Soriano, Robertson, and Mo in the late innings to carry the load for a rotation that will probably not eat a lot of innings other than CC.

Saw Shilling on the WWL express his doubts that he'll be able to keep in shape. He was suggesting it'll be at least 2 years until he is back to full strength. And something that far out might make it a career.

would any of those players even make the Rangers team? never even heard of some of them and I'm usually pretty good about knowing players around the league...

I think the Astros winning 60 games would be a much bigger surprise than the Rangers winning the pennant. What an awful franchise right now.

Do they have two players that would be drafted in a 12 team fantasy draft?

My DVR was on the fritz. They shipped me a new one and as an apology reduced my rates for phone and internet to their promotional rates for a year and gave me hbo and upgraded to uverse 300 for six months. About $40 per month cheaper with better stuff.

Because we think Nefti has a higher ceiling as a starter and if he bombs there we have Lex/Scooter to come in as a 4 or 5. Depth allows us to find out wether he's a pussy or not.

It's a real $#@!ing unfamiliar scenario in this organization.

Can we go ahead and compile a list from this thread and the Astros thread of what it takes to be a fan? I'm really starting to wonder.

As to $#@! the angels, I hope Pujols and str8douche go full Vernon Wells on their ass out there. In a way, I sort of expect it. $#@! the angels.

    Looking forward to opening day.

It's really easy for me to be a good fan since I've only been doing it since 2010.

At the same time, Wash using him as a true fireman in the playoffs was awesome. Leyland said that was the difference between the teams in the alcs. Be cool to do that all year.

I stopped being a fan the moment Hicks left. He is Mr Ranger as far as I'm concerned.

As far as I'm concerned, Reynolds makes the big league team if he finds a way to hit str8douche in the head with an errant pitch.

you can now buy a Boomstick at the ballpark

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Can you imagine picking up a one-pound hot dog that's nearly two feet long, let alone eating the entire thing in one sitting?

Well, Texas Rangers fans can give it a try. For $26, fans at the new Captain Morgan Club in center field and at several concession stands at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington can attempt to clog arteries with not only the large dog, but a slew of toppings.

By the time you add shredded cheese, chili, sautéed onions and fries, the entire plate could weigh two pounds. And it's likely to add more than that to your waist line.

"I don't know how many calories are in this thing, but it's got to be 2,000 or 3,000," said Casey Rapp, operations manager for Sportsservice, which handles concessions at the park.

It's called the "Champion Dog" in the restaurant and served on a cutting board. The waiter or waitress can even cut it into smaller pieces to share with friends. At the concession stands, it's known as the "Boomstick," in honor of Nelson Cruz. And for fans purchasing it there, a hefty carrier complete with handles is made available so it can be transported to any seating area.

"We did a half-pound hot dog during the World Series and wanted to top it," Rapp said. "Our company had to have the hot dog made special and we had to find a local bakery to make the bun. The bun is like a loaf of bread just to hold this thing."

Of course, the huge hot dog is supposed to serve four people, though there's bound to be a few folks that take up the challenge of consuming the culinary delight by themselves.

"I don't recommend it, but I'd be impressed," Rapp said. "It's almost as long as a youth bat. I'm sure fans will try it just to see if they can do it."

Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan believes that the one player in the clubhouse who could take up the challenge of consuming the club's new hot dog is outfielder David Murphy.

Murphy's teammates agreed. So does Murphy think he could do it?

"If it's plain, I think I could definitely do it," Murphy said. "I'm not a big topping guy. Usually when I eat my hot dog, it's with cheese. If I tried to do it by adding the chili, that would be a challenge. Even with the toppings, I'd be close."

Murphy, who participated in a food challenge as part of a Rangers' TV broadcast in recent years, notes that he's had a one-pound hamburger, though to finish off this dog, he'd have to eat a lot more bread.

Murphy likes the idea of trying something different at the park.

"You're always wanting to see something on the menu besides the norm," Murphy said. "You're used to going to the ballpark and seeing your hamburger, hot dog, popcorn, nachos. It's fun to see something different, and this is different."

The hot dog is just the latest example of going big in Texas. The Rangers introduced a three-pound pretzel last season and it was successful enough that it's making a return in 2012.

Fans can still purchase a "Jumbo Dog," which is the regular hot dog on game days that sells for $4.50. That dog weighs one-sixth of a pound, meaning it would take six of them to equal one "Boomstick."

Nellie would have been proud of how I used the term Boomstick last night. Check the Stars thread.
