|
|
Not real surpising news, there was virtually no shot he would come back to Texas for his Senior year, the reports are that he signed for 200K.
Brandon was a great Longhorn in his time on the 40 acres.....so good for him and good luck to him
| Quote: | | • It's going to be a grueling next few days for the Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns lost first baseman Brandon Belt to San Francisco Thursday afternoon for just over $200,000, according to a source. Belt's departure is no surprise, as the Longhorns expected him to sign. But with Belt off the board, all UT's attention shifts to local product Everett Williams, an outfielder that was drafted in the second round by San Diego. The Padres appear to be close to inking first-round pick Donavan Tate and also feel very good about their chances of signing right-handed pitcher Keyvius Sampson, a Florida State signee. That means the Padres won't have as much money to play with in regards to Williams. Sources at UT are telling me that the coaching staff feels things are 50/50 with Williams. If Tate and Sampson sign contracts sooner rather than later, I think that percentage goes more in UT's favor. |
The report here by Kendall Rogers also discusses Longhorn recruit Everett Williams from McCallum High School and the Horns chances of getting him to campus.
Of course this time of year you always here about guys that are 50/50 just days before the deadline so I take that with a grain of salt, 2nd round picks sign 99 times out of a 100....so I will wait until Tuesday morning before I start getting excited about the prospect of Williams being a Longhorn.

Best of luck to Belt, a solid first baseman and was a great bat for us as well... but it happens.
As for Williams, I'll pee my pants if he ends up on campus. Kid can flat play. I didn't even think we were 50/50, more like 99% going, 1% staying. |

Agreed, Williams committed to UT late in the recruiting process, which typically is an indication that he committed simply for the leverage of possibly attending school for his contract negotiations.....the kid is an amazing talent, but again I don't want to get excited....but on the other hand, until he actually signs on the dotted line we still have some hope....we shall see.
But even if we dont get him we still have a great class coming in, and of course already have a loaded team next year. |
