This doesn't sit well with me, on a fundamental level.

Quote:
Volunteers are making money working for Rick Perry's re-election campaign. One, identified as Shaniqua Curry, is even asking her Twitter followers (above) to help her earn money to buy a car. Here's how the program, known as Perry Home Headquarters, works:

1. Volunteers are asked to recruit friends and neighbors, who are called Perry Home Headquarters.

2. The Headquarters pledge in turn to recruit 11 more people to vote for Perry in the March primary.

3. The initial volunteers get $20 for each Perry Home Headquarter recruited, plus another $20 for every 11 voters each Headquarter signs up to vote in the primary.

What, was handing people a vote for Perry sticker and a 20 outside of polling locations too obvious?

Fundamentally the same, I'd think, if they are both paying people to vote.

Yeah but he may lose 12 or 13 if it goes like last time.

There is a subtle difference. Rick is promising $ out of his campaign fund for volunteers. Acorn and thus POTUS promised tax $s in return for votes including those of the deceased.

ACORN registered people to vote. There was no dollar per vote like Perry is doing.

Same thing here dumbass.

Luckily with the system we have and voter anonymity its impossible to actually pay for votes, only to pay for registering voters.

Did you read the story? You are getting paid to recruit Perry voters. That's completely different than ACORN's operation. You can take issue with ACORN's operation, but they weren't recruiting voters for specific candidates.

I don't understand how some of you people function.

How can you be against Perry's mini-ACORN (which I am) but for the actual ACORN, when they are the exact same thing.

Perry pays people by the number they recruit to vote. ACORN pays people by the number they register to vote.

Good god, its not that difficult to comprehend. Recruit=register. Different word, same thing.

And judge, I know this might be difficult for someone of your under-developed brain to understand, but with anonymous voting Perry could give me one thousand dollars to vote for him, register me, and send me to the booth, and have zero guarantee that he got his money's worth.

one of my cousin's has ran for state rep a couple of times, not some bs race, #41 and perry both helped him fundraise / campaign.

he was approached by two community activist type people, 100 absentee votes for 500 bucks. both were people he'd known a very long time. they approached him first and told him, the write in votes would put him over the top, but if he said no they'd offer them to his opponent.

this happened in both elections and in both elections he pretty much lost on the absentee votes.

I'd forgotten about absentee votes, I guess that is very possible.

Its also possible to buy votes in congress, since those aren't anonymous.

they give someone at a nursing home a little money, and that buys enough information to request an absentee ballot for people in the home. they'll also request absentee ballots of the recently dead, they're still on the voter rolls.

the second election, his opponent had over 1000 absentee votes, he had 125.

What's the solution?

Does getting rid of absentee ballots disenfranchise too many voters to be a viable option?

Take some Pamprin, woman. He's paying people to vote for him. Is that not clear? If they don't vote for him, well, he's a dumbfuck aggie.

And btw, nowhere in this thread did I defend Acorn. Why the butthurt?

What madness is this?

Quote:

Perry pays people by the number they recruit to vote. ACORN pays people by the number they register to vote.

A few problems...
1) ACORN does not pay per registered voter. Their registry workers are paid by the hour.
2) Perry pays people to vote for him. ACORN pays people to go register people who make no promise to vote for any particular candidate.

So basically everything you're asserting is wrong.

Quote:
this and acorn are both disgusting and horrid for democracy.

ACORN as an organization is actually pretty great aside from a few well-known employee morons. Of course, it's employees are mainly from the lower economic classes so one can't expect too much from them.

Quote:

Is there some kind of evidence to the contrary? It would be pretty easy to find evidence of ACORN workers pushing Obama given that, by definition, their advocacy would be public and quite frequently performed.
